The man was first reported in Finsbury Street, Newmarket, but was finally restrained about two kilometres away on Butterfield Street outside the Herston Lodge.

Police believe at least four people were struck by the man before he was restrained by members of the public.

They have concerns for an elderly woman who may have also been struck in the face and paramedics took a 73-year-old man to hospital with facial injuries suffered when he was allegedly punched in the head.

Police were called to Butterfield Street, near the Herston lodge where he was restrained to deal with the man.

Police are asking anyone who saw the man or was approached by the man to call crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
