Bob's Burgers is an American animated sitcom created by Loren Bouchard for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series centers on the Belchers—parents Bob and Linda, and their children Tina, Gene, and Louise—who run a hamburger restaurant. The family was conceived by Bouchard after he developed Home Movies.
Since its debut on January 9, 2011, the series has broadcast 95 episodes. While reviews for the first season were mixed, feedback for subsequent seasons has been much more positive. After the first season, Bento Box Entertainment was replaced by Wilo Productions and Buck & Millie Productions. All seasons are produced and distributed in association with 20th Century Fox Television and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The series premiere, "Human Flesh", drew in 9.38 million viewers, making it the highest-rated series premiere of the season and also finished 9th in the ratings for the week it aired. Reruns began airing on Cartoon Network's late night adult programming block Adult Swim on June 23, 2013, and began airing in syndication on local stations in September 2015.
A gene is a locus (or region) of DNA that encodes a functional RNA or protein product, and is the molecular unit of heredity. The transmission of genes to an organism's offspring is the basis of the inheritance of phenotypic traits. Most biological traits are under the influence of polygenes (many different genes) as well as the gene–environment interactions. Some genetic traits are instantly visible, such as eye colour or number of limbs, and some are not, such as blood type, risk for specific diseases, or the thousands of basic biochemical processes that comprise life.
Genes can acquire mutations in their sequence, leading to different variants, known as alleles, in the population. These alleles encode slightly different versions of a protein, which cause different phenotype traits. Colloquial usage of the term "having a gene" (e.g., "good genes," "hair colour gene") typically refers to having a different allele of the gene. Genes evolve due to natural selection or survival of the fittest of the alleles.
John Glover Roberts Jr. (born January 27, 1955) is the 17th and current Chief Justice of the United States. He took his seat on September 29, 2005, having been nominated by President George W. Bush after the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist. He has been described as having a conservative judicial philosophy in his jurisprudence.
Roberts grew up in northwest Indiana and was educated in a private school. He then attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was managing editor of the Harvard Law Review. After being admitted to the bar, he served as a law clerk for Judge Henry Friendly and then Justice Rehnquist before taking a position in the Attorney General's office during the Reagan Administration. He went on to serve the Reagan Administration and the George H. W. Bush administration in the Department of Justice and the Office of the White House Counsel, before spending 14 years in private law practice. During this time, he argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court. During his two-year tenure on the D.C. Circuit, Roberts authored 49 opinions, eliciting two dissents from other judges, and authoring three dissents of his own. Notably, he represented 19 states in United States v. Microsoft.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED conferences. Because we want to understand what genes are required for blood vessel development, Courtney Griffin studies certain enzymes that help turn genes on and off. These enzymes are specifically involved in relaxing DNA that is normally tightly coiled up in our cells.

From: Bob's Burgers (2016) S06E07 - "The Gene and Courtney Show" Last week, I made the impulsive decision to cross over from the 'friend zone' to, well, something a bit more romantic, with the guy who first introduced me to this show, oddly enough. Almost immediately, there was regret involved--not to mention backtracking--and now things are a little rocky between us. I wasn't expecting the heartbreak that I felt, but I seemed to have stumbled upon this episode at the perfect moment. Gave me the reassurance that I needed that things'll be okay. :) This is exactly why I love Bob's Burgers so much: so heartwarming and oddly relatable, even in the context of one of the show's goofiest, most eccentric kid characters singing a song about the endurance of the heart. The circle of life is one of life's greatest mysteries—our physical bodies are here so briefly when time is perceived as infinite. The loss of a loved one is tragic but with hope, healing and love comes an understanding of how a life is truly infinite as well. Writer and educator Suzanne Gene Courtney's Ride to the Stars paints a beautiful and inspiring picture through which children can understand these concepts and find comfort in knowing that life on the other side continues. Courtney's tale is set on the Big Island of Hawaii and is a testament to her oldest son, Daniel Robert Sayre, who died there, at the age of 25. Spanning over two decades, her melodic prose is peppered with words of comfort and wisdom that will resonate with children. It teaches the beauty of life, the importance of...

Dr. Courtney Babbitt, Assistant Professor at UMass Amherst, discusses the genes that make us human.
As the cost of decoding our DNA continues to drop, direct-to-consumer genetic testing becomes common and research projects, like the newly launched Personal Genome Project Canada, crop up. Soon, more of us may be learning the secrets of our genomes and opening the door to a raft of ethical quandaries. The question is: How much do we really want to know? Can we really understand this confusing code or do we need a doctor or genetic counselor to help us decipher it?
Courtney Kissler, Vice President of E-Commerce and Store Technologies, Nordstrom Link to slides: http://www.slideshare.net/ITRevolution/does14-40885580 We started our technology transformation about 2 years ago. It started with a move to “agile”. I’d love to share what we learned from the experience and where we are on that journey. We went from agile transformation to focusing on a leadership development program (which then became an exercise in defining our culture) to a technology strategy story which includes creating a culture of continuous improvement. We have varying maturity levels within our organization. I’d like to share our customer mobile story as a case study in CD/DevOps and continuous flow. I can also share where other teams are at and how we’ve approached the challenge....

How epigenetics controls our genes in health and disease Brad Bernstein Institute Member, Broad Institute; Professor, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School; Co-Director, Broad’s Epigenomics Program The one genome we inherit at birth gives rise to the thousands of different cell types in our body — blood cells, skin cells, neurons, and so on. How can cells with the same genes and DNA be so different? The answer lies in epigenetics, the system of gene controls that turn on just the right genes in cells.Brad Bernstein will present an overview of the field of epigenetics and discuss his lab’s efforts to understand and correct epigenetic defects in human cancer. myDNAhealth's Dr Shania Lee looks at types and mechanisms of inflammation. She will also look at the genes that can make people vulnerable to inflammation and, more interestingly, at epigenetic factors that can affect gene expression - turn these genes on or off. Finally, Dr Shania will also cover what you, as a practitioner, can do to control inflammatory responses. The webinar has been BANT and NNA accredited for CPD.
Professor Mary Gehring discusses how an how epigenetics works. An organism's phenotypic traits are in large part hard-wired in the sequence of its DNA. Yet phenomena described more than 50 years ago indicated another layer of information exists on top of the genetic code: the epigenome. Chemical modifications to the proteins that package DNA or to the DNA itself can alter how the cell interprets the genetic code. This lecture will explore the contribution of epigenetics to growth and development, with a particular emphasis on plants, which have served as an important model system for understanding these processes. Dr. Gehring specializes in plant biology, and her research focus is epigenetic reprogramming in a plant that is especially well suited for investigation of epigenetic processes ...

Epigenetics: How Genes and Environment Interact Air date: Wednesday, April 18, 2012, 3:00:00 PM Time displayed is Eastern Time, Washington DC Local Category: Wednesday Afternoon Lectures Description: Human epidemiological and animal experimental data indicate that the risk of developing adult onset diseases and neurological disorders is influenced by persistent adaptations to prenatal and early postnatal environmental exposures. One group of epigenetically regulated genes that potentially links environmental exposures early in development to adult diseases are those with metastable epialleles. These genes have highly variable expression because of stochastic allelic changes in the epigenome rather than mutations in the genome. The viable yellow agouti (Avy) mouse harbors a m...
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. This fascinating and consequential talk shares research that is changing and expanding what we know about genomics to include the factors that are collectively known as epigenetics. These factors show a form of biological inheritance that is new to our theories of evolution and is shifting the understanding of how our environments influence the genes of future generations. Michael Skinner’s research has demonstrated that environmental toxicants promote epigenetic transgenerational inheritance of adult onset diseases. This non-genetic form of inheritance has a role in disease etiology and areas such as evolution. Skinner established the Washington State University and University of Idaho Center for R...
