SEDOL stands for Stock Exchange Daily Official List, a list of security identifiers used in the United Kingdom and Ireland for clearing purposes. The numbers are assigned by the London Stock Exchange, on request by the security issuer. SEDOLs serve as the National Securities Identifying Number for all securities issued in the United Kingdom and are therefore part of the security's ISIN as well. The SEDOL Masterfile (SMF) provides reference data on millions of global multi-asset securities each uniquely identified at the market level using a universal SEDOL code.

SEDOLs are seven characters in length, consisting of two parts: a six-place alphanumeric code and a trailing check digit. SEDOLs issued prior to January 26, 2004 were composed only of numbers. For older SEDOLs, those from Asia and Africa typically begin with 6. Those from the UK and Ireland (until Ireland joined the EU) typically begin with 0 or 3. Those from the rest of Europe typically began with 4, 5, or 7. Those from the Americas began with 2.

After January 26, 2004, SEDOLs were changed to be alpha-numeric and are issued sequentially, beginning with B000009. At each character position numbers precede letters and vowels are never used. All new SEDOLs, therefore, begin with a letter. Ranges beginning with 9 are reserved for end user allocation.

The check digit for a SEDOL is chosen to make the total weighted sum of all seven characters a multiple of 10. The check digit is computed using a weighted sum of the first six characters. Letters have the value of 9 plus their alphabet position, such that B = 11 and Z = 35. While vowels are never used in SEDOLs, they are not ignored when computing this weighted sum (e.g. H = 17 and J = 19, even though I is not used), simplifying code to compute this sum. The resulting string of numbers is then multiplied by the weighting factor as follows:

The character values are multiplied by the weights. The check digit is chosen to make the total sum, including the check digit, a multiple of 10, which can be calculated from the weighted sum of the first six characters as (10 − (weighted sum modulo 10)) modulo 10.

For British and Irish securities, SEDOLs are converted to ISINs by padding the front with two zeros, then adding the country code on the front and the ISIN check digit at the end.

The checksum can be calculated by multiplying the first six digits by their weightings:

(0×1, 2×3, 6×1, 3×7, 4×3, 9×9) = (0, 6, 6, 21, 12, 81)

Then summing up the results:

0 + 6 + 6 + 21 + 12 + 81 = 126

The check digit is then calculated by:

Lee Sedol (born 2 March 1983) is a South Korean professional Go player of 9-dan rank.^[1]

Biography[link]

Many regard Lee Sedol as one of the strongest players of all time. Lee was born in Korea in 1983 and studied at the Hanguk Kiwon. He ranks third in career titles with 37, behind Cho Hunhyun (150) and Lee Chang-ho (140). He ranks second in international titles(11), behind only Yi-Changho(18). Despite this, he describes his opening play as "very weak".^[2]

Sedol is married and has one daughter.^[2]

He plays on Tygem as "gjopok".^[3]

Pak Yeong-hun (박영훈, born April 1, 1985), also known as Park Young-Hoon and Pak Yeong-Hoon is a professional Go player.

Pak Yeong-hun was born in Seoul. He is a professional Go player in the Hanguk Kiwon.

He is the youngest ever Korean 9 dan, promoted when he was only 19 years old. Due to the new rules set by the Hanguk Kiwon, Park moved up from 1 dan to 9 in only 4 years 7 months, which is the fastest progress ever.

Much of this was due to him winning the Fujitsu Cup in 2004, when he was at 4 dan. This also earned him exemption from military service.

His hobbies include tennis and playing Tetris.

Kong Jie (born November 25, 1982) is a Chinese professional Go player.

Kong Jie turned professional in 1994 at the age of 12. He was promoted to 7-dan after 8-years in 2001. In 2004 he was sent into the Teda Cup as China's representative against Lee Chang-ho and Yoda Norimoto. Kong Jie is China's 29th professional 9-dan, doing so by being runner's up in the 13th Samsung Cup, and entering the finals of the Asian TV Cup for the first time.

In 2009, Kong Jie achieved a major international breakthrough by winning the Asian TV Cup—defeating Korea's top three players of Lee Sedol, Lee Chang-ho and Kang Dongyun respectively. His win marked the end of several years of poor personal international results. Later in the year, Kong Jie followed-up by reaching the semi-finals of the 14th Samsung Cup and proceeded to win the title by defeating his two compatriots Gu Li and Qiu Jun.

In 2010, Kong Jie passed the preliminary rounds of the 14th LG Cup to face former champion Lee Chang-ho in the finals. Kong won the match 2-0 and also the tournament. ^[1][2] Later in the year, Kong Jie successfully defended his Asian TV Cup, defeating Korea's Lee Chang-ho and Japan's Yuki Satoshi. He followed this up with another big win over a red hot Lee Sedol, to win the 23rd Fujitsu Cup. With an incredible year, he arguably cemented his status as the 2010 world's strongest Go player. During the 15th Samsung Cup ， Kong managed to defeat a soon to be wedded Lee Chang-Ho before succumbing to Kim Ji-Seok in the Quarterfinals. The match, with Kong playing Black, turned out to be a crucial "fight to the death" of both side's dragons, but Kong, miscalculated a combination by Kim on move 150, and on move 202, resigned, thus failing to defend his crown.^[3]

Gu Lingyi (born 3 July 1991) is a Chinese professional Go player.

Lingyi became a professional in 2002. He won his first title, the South-West Qiwang, in 2007.^[1] He challenged for the Mingren title in 2009, but lost to Gu Li.^[2]
