Víctor is a Spanish and Catalan masculine given name, equivalent to Victor in English and Vítor in Portuguese. Notable people with the given name include:
Víctor Sánchez del Amo (born 23 February 1976), known simply as Víctor, is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a right midfielder, and the current coach of Deportivo de La Coruña.
His crossing ability is among the qualities which brought him international recognition with Spain, and especially Deportivo. He started his career with Real Madrid, and went on to win a total of seven major titles between the two clubs combined.
Over the course of 11 seasons, Víctor amassed La Liga totals of 310 games and 49 goals.
Víctor was born in Madrid. Being a product of the famous Real Madrid youth system, he made his first-team debut on 25 May 1996 in the season's last matchday, a 1–0 away win against Real Zaragoza.
Almost never a starter during his spell in the capital, Víctor did appear in 36 La Liga games in 1996–97 (25 starts, five goals) as the Fabio Capello-led side won the national championship, and would play a relative role in Madrid's conquest of the following season's UEFA Champions League.
Víctor Manuel Fernández Gutiérrez (born 17 April 1974), known simply as Víctor, is a Spanish retired footballer. Usually a striker, he could also be put to use behind a sole attacker.
Over the course of 18 seasons he appeared in 561 games both major levels of Spanish football combined, scoring 167 goals (342/93 in La Liga). He played nine years with Valladolid (two spells), and four with Villarreal.
Víctor was born in Mérida, Extremadura. A product of CD Leganés' youth system, he made his senior debuts with Real Madrid Castilla, and first appeared in La Liga with CD Tenerife, having little success in a one 1/2 season stint. Towards the end of the second year he played with CD Toledo, in the second division.
In 1996–97 Víctor joined Real Valladolid, scoring 16 top flight goals in his debut campaign to help the club rank seventh, then spent another four years with Villarreal CF, where he was also a regular fixture (with 28 successful strikes in his first two seasons combined).
The Penghu or Pescadores Islands are an archipelago of 64 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait. The largest city is Magong, located on the largest island, which is also named Penghu. Covering an area of 141 square kilometers (54 sq mi), the archipelago collectively forms Penghu County of Taiwan, and is the second smallest county, after Lienchiang.
The traditional English name of the islands, the Pescadores, comes from the Portuguese name Ilhas dos Pescadores ("Fishermen Islands"). The Portuguese pronunciation is [pɨʃkɐˈðoɾɨʃ] but, in English, it is typically closer to /ˌpɛskəˈdɔːrɪz/ or /-iz/. The islands have also been called Pehoe.
Pescadores was also the name given by the Spanish expedition of Hernando de Grijalva in 1537 to the Micronesian atoll Kapingamarangi.
Finds of fine red cord-marked pottery indicate that Penghu was visited by people from southwestern Taiwan around 5,000 years ago, though not settled permanently.
Han Chinese from southern Fujian began to establish fishing communities on the islands in the 9th and 10th centuries, and representatives were intermittently stationed there by the Southern Song and Yuan governments from around 1170.
