Rashtrapati Bhavan

The Rashtrapati Bhavan  pronunciation , "Presidential Residence") is the official home of the President of India, located in New Delhi, India. It may refer to only the mansion (the 340-room main building) that has the President's official residence, halls, guest rooms and offices; it may also refer to the entire 130 hectare (320 acre) President Estate that additionally includes huge presidential gardens (Mughal Gardens), large open spaces, residences of bodyguards and staff, stables, other offices and utilities within its perimeter walls. The main palace building was formerly known as Viceroy's House. In terms of area, was the largest residence of a Head of State in the world until the Presidential Complex of Turkey opened 29 October 2014.

History

The decision to build a residence in New Delhi for the British Viceroy was taken after it was decided during the Delhi Durbar in 1910 that the capital of India would be relocated from Calcutta (Kolkata) to Delhi. When the plan for a new city, New Delhi, adjacent to and south of Old Delhi, was developed in the beginning of the 20th century, the new palace for the Viceroy of India was given an enormous size and prominent position. About 4,000 acres of land was acquired to begin the construction of Viceroy's House, as it was officially called, and adjacent Central Secretariat between 1911 and 1916 by relocating Raisina and Malcha villages that existed there and their 300 families under the Land & Acquisition Act.

Gurinder Chadha

Gurinder Chadha OBE (born 10 January 1960) is an English film director of Sikh Kenyan Indian origin. Most of her films explore the lives of Indians living in England. This common theme among her work showcases the trials of Indian women living in England and how they must reconcile their converging traditional and modern cultures. Although many of her films seem like simple quirky comedies about Indian women, they actually address many social and emotional issues, especially ones faced by immigrants caught between two worlds.

Much of her work also consists of adaptations from book to film, but with a different flare. She is best known for the hit films Bhaji on the Beach (1993), Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Bride and Prejudice (2004) and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008). Her most recent project is the comedy film It's a Wonderful Afterlife released on 21 April 2010.

Early life

Gurinder Chadha was born in Nairobi, Kenya, then a British colony. Her family was part of the Indian diaspora in East Africa. They moved to Southall, West London when she was two years of age, where she attended Clifton Primary School. Chadha's father faced much prejudice because of his appearance as a Sikh Indian, wearing a turban and having a beard. Eventually, the family opened a shop to provide the family with an economic toehold.

Manish Dayal

Manish Dayal (born June 17, 1983) is an American film and television actor known for his recurring role as Raj Kher in 90210 and leading role in the film The Hundred Foot Journey.

Early life

Dayal was born Manish Patel in Orangeburg, South Carolina, to parents from Gujarat, India, Hema and Sudhir Patel. He is the third of four children. He graduated from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in 2001 and went on to college at the George Washington University. After he graduated in 2005 he moved to New York to pursue his career in Film/Television, and five years later he moved to Los Angeles where he currently resides. He uses his grandfather's first name, "Dayal", as his stage surname.

Career

Dayal started his career appearing in national commercials for McDonalds, Windows, Nintendo, and Domino's Pizza. In 2008, he played the lead in The New Group's twice-extended off-Broadway show Rafta, Rafta.... He played a small role in The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Paula van der Oest's Domino Effect. After guest starring on CSI: Las Vegas on CBS, Dayal went on to play Hal, a code-breaking computer analyst, on the AMC series, Rubicon. Dayal also starred in the romantic comedy Walkaway, which explores love and culture set in New York. In 2010 and 2011, he played Ravi, the smug A-team leader on Outsourced, a comedy series from NBC. He also played Raj Kher, an alternative college student recovering from cancer, in the third and fourth seasons of The CW's 90210. He starred as Hassan Kadam in The Hundred Foot Journey (2014).

Gillian Anderson

Gillian Leigh Anderson (born August 9, 1968) is an American-British film, television and theatre actress, activist and writer. Her credits include the roles of FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the long-running and widely popular series The X-Files, ill-fated socialite Lily Bart in Terence Davies' film The House of Mirth (2000), and Lady Dedlock in the successful BBC production of Charles Dickens' Bleak House. Among other honours, Anderson has won a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

After beginning her career on stage, Anderson achieved international recognition for her role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully on the American sci-fi drama series The X-Files for all ten seasons (1993–2002, 2016). Her film work includes the dramas The Mighty Celt (2005), The Last King of Scotland (2006), Shadow Dancer (2012) and two X-Files films: The X-Files: Fight the Future (1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008). Her other notable television credits are Any Human Heart, The Crimson Petal and the White, portraying Miss Havisham in Great Expectations (2011) and Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier on Hannibal. In 2013, Anderson began starring as DSI Stella Gibson on the critically acclaimed BBC crime drama television series The Fall. She has been serving as an executive producer from its second series.
