Buckley (Welsh: Bwcle [ˈbʊklɛ]) is a town and community in Flintshire, located in north-east Wales. It is situated 2 miles (3.2 km) from the county town of Mold and is contiguous with the nearby villages of Ewloe, Alltami (which are both under the jurisdiction of Buckley town council) and Mynydd Isa. The town is located on the A549 road, with the larger A55 road passing nearby.
Buckley is the second largest town in Flintshire in terms of population. According to the 2001 Census, the community had a total population of 14,568, increasing to 15,665 at the 2011 census.
Notable nearby landmarks include Ewloe Castle.
Buckley was an Anglo-Saxon location, with some of its houses later recorded in the Norman Domesday Book of the 11th century. However, the first documented evidence of its existence dates from 1294 when it was described as the pasturage of the Manor of Ewloe, spelled as "Bokkeley".
The name Buckley may derive from the Old English bok lee, meaning meadow, or field. The likely meaning of the name was "clearing in a beech wood" (with boc meaning beech tree and ley meaning wood, glade or clearing). The name could also have been construed from bucc, a buck or deer; or bwlch y clai, meaning clay hole.
Saul David Alinsky (January 30, 1909 – June 12, 1972) was a Jewish American community organizer and writer. He is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing. He is often noted for his 1971 book Rules for Radicals.
In the course of nearly four decades of political organizing, Alinsky received much criticism, but also gained praise from many public figures. His organizing skills were focused on improving the living conditions of poor communities across North America. In the 1950s, he began turning his attention to improving conditions in the African-American ghettos, beginning with Chicago's and later traveling to other ghettos in California, Michigan, New York City, and a dozen other "trouble spots".
His ideas were adapted in the 1960s by some U.S. college students and other young counterculture-era organizers, who used them as part of their strategies for organizing on campus and beyond.Time magazine once wrote that "American democracy is being altered by Alinsky's ideas," and conservative author William F. Buckley said he was "very close to being an organizational genius".
Christopher Eric Hitchens (13 April 1949 – 15 December 2011) was an English American author, essayist, orator, religious and literary critic, and journalist. Hitchens later spent much of his career in the United States and became a US citizen in 2007.
He contributed to New Statesman, The Nation, The Atlantic, London Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement, Slate, and Vanity Fair. Hitchens was the author, co-author, editor or co-editor of over 30 books, including five collections of essays, on a range of subjects, including politics, literature, and religion. A staple of talk shows and lecture circuits, his confrontational style of debate made him both a lauded and controversial figure. Known for his contrarian stance on a number of issues, Hitchens criticized such public and generally popular figures as Mother Teresa; Bill Clinton; Henry Kissinger; Princess Diana; and Pope Benedict XVI. He was the elder brother of the conservative journalist and author Peter Hitchens.

2014.11.26 Speaker: Michael Buckley Author & Filmmaker Topic: Meltdown in Tibet Michael Buckley will explain how he shifted from writing guidebooks about Tibet to becoming an environmentalist, uncovering eco-disasters that loom in Tibet and beyond. His new book, Meltdown in Tibet, is a startling expose of environmental destruction on the Tibetan plateau, through the building of mega-dams, extensive mining and grassland degradation. This has severe effects not only in Tibet but far beyond, across China and deep into India and a dozen other nations that lie downstream along the mighty rivers flowing out of Tibet. Mr. Buckley is also a filmmaker of three documentaries about major environmental issues in Tibet —the documentaries in fact form the research base for the book. He co-authored a...

PART 1: Owner Hugh Fitzpatrick and reporter Michelle Greene pay a visit to historic Plymouth, Massachusetts landmarks such as Plymouth Rock, the replica of the Mayflower, and Plimouth Plantation. PART 2: Hugh Fitzpatrick interviews John Buckley, Plymouth County Register of Deeds. The deeds at this particular registry go back as far as the 1620's. Land transactions go back as far the early colonists. Around 1627, the governor switched over to private property rights, which allows for a more productive society. This is when the recording of land records began. The first colonial document laid out the land around the area where the Mayflower had landed, and those ownership locations are still marked by plaques today along that road. The Plymouth Colony records have many of the original Pil...

S29E34 Firing Line with William F. Buckley, "The Women's Movement: Part I". Guests: Elizabeth Fox-Genovese, Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington, Helen Alvare, Betty Friedan, Karen S. Burstein, Camille Paglia, Kathryn Kolbert. Air Date: December 7, 1994 Season 29, Episode 34 Program details: Typically, the free-form discussion following a Firing Line debate is fairly rambunctious. This one is gloriously off the charts. When the shouting subsides enough for sentences to be heard, they are well worth listening to. EFG: "The original women's movement has succeeded brilliantly. It is frequently said that the 1980s were a backlash against women, yet during the 1980s women went from earning 63 cents on the male dollar to earning 95 or more cents on the male dollar for entry-level positions. No...

LC: "What troubles me ... is that somehow we seem to be talking about bloodlines here. ... In fact, in the United States what is most remarkable is that these ethnic divisions disappear over time, and it is now more common for Eastern and Southern Europeans to marry outside of their group ... Christopher Hitchens and William F Buckley Jr. 1984 Is there a Liberal Crack Up?
Uncommon Knowledge - The 60's Christopher Hitchens and William F. Buckley Jr
Dissatisfaction on the part of the growing middle class with the corruption and inefficiency of politics as usual, and the failure to deal with increasingly important urban and industrial problems, led to the dynamic Progressive Movement starting in the 1890s. In every major city and state, and at the national level as well, and in education, medicine, and industry, the progressives called for the modernization and reform of decrepit institutions, the elimination of corruption in politics, and the introduction of efficiency as a criterion for change. Leading politicians from both parties, most notably Theodore Roosevelt, Charles Evans Hughes, and Robert LaFollette on the Republican side, and William Jennings Bryan and Woodrow Wilson on the Democratic side, took up the cause of progressive ...
