The Cahuenga Pass (/kəˈwɛŋɡə/; from the indigenous Tongva language; el. 745 ft (227 m). / 227 m) is a mountain pass through the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains in the Hollywood district of the City of Los Angeles, California.
The Cahuenga Pass connects the Los Angeles Basin to the San Fernando Valley via U.S. Route 101 (Hollywood Freeway) and Cahuenga Boulevard. It is the lowest pass through the mountains.
It was the site of two major battles: the Battle of Cahuenga Pass in 1831 (a fight between local settlers and the Mexican-appointed governor and his men; two deaths), and the Battle of Providencia or Second Battle of Cahuenga Pass in 1845 (between locals over whether to secede from Mexico; one horse and one mule killed). Both were on the San Fernando Valley side near present-day Studio City, and cannonballs are still occasionally found during excavations in the area. Along the route of the historic El Camino Real, the historic significance of the pass is also marked by a marker along Cahuenga Blvd. which names the area Paseo de Cahuenga.

CAHUENGA PASS, an independent film to be released in 2010, is the latest from writer/director Christopher L. Golon. The film, in the mold of Bob Fosse's STAR 80, centers on a girl, who works in the adult entertainment industry, and her abusive relationship with her boyfriend. The film stars Rachel Frank, Matthew Corbett Davis, Maura Murphy, and Rebekah Voss. Thanks to Shattered Atom for use of their song 'Hollywood' in the trailer (and the film). Thanks for watching this Travel Video of Los Angeles, CA. ( Sorry for bad sound, the Recorder memory card got lost so we used just camera sound ) We started the morning at Griffith Observatory and walked our way up to the Hollywood hills toward the Historic Hollywood Sign. In a segment from the pilot episode THE SECRET CITY - LOS ANGELES, the mystery of gold being buried in the famed Highway 101 that careens through Hollywood is looked at. The history of the Cahuenga pass and who buried the gold is covered in a new series that looks at the deep dark secrets that exist in every city.
For most of the Griffith Park's History Mt. Hollywood has stood at the center as the tallest and most visited peak in the park. With the addition of Mt. Lee and Cahuenga Peak in 2010, Mt. Hollywood fell to the third highest peak in the park, but the stream of visitors hasn't changed due to the relatively short hike on the Charlie Turner Trail from the Griffith Observatory. However, the Charlie Turner Trail is a rather uneventful hike, more a thoroughfare to a destination than a journey to be undertaken. The Hike-LosAngeles trek to Mt. Hollywood's summit is a more challenging and inspiring hike. Beginning near the Pony Rides on Crystal Springs Drive, the trail passes Beacon Hill, Glendale Peak and climbs the spine of Hogback ridge with its sweeping vistas as the canyon walls fall away b...

How my Valentines Day hike to the Hollywood sign turned into something different!
An illustrated cartographic history of the City of Angels from the colonial era to the present. Los Angeles inhabits a place of the mind as much as it does a physical geographic space. A land of palm trees and movie stars, sunshine and glamour, the city exists in the imagination as a paradise; of course, the reality is much bigger than this. Through seventy reproductions of seminal and historic documents, Los Angeles in Maps presents the evolution of this almost mythical place. Maps featured include historic Spanish explorers' charts from as early as 1791, as well as more recent topographic surveys, tourist guides, real estate maps, bird's-eye views, and more. Like the course of the Los Angeles River, the book winds through essential terrain: the discovery of oil, the rise of Hollywood, th...

Max Rapp was a composer/arranger/contractor for Universal Pictures from 1935-1960 and these are all scenes from his personal video camera. He was my great grandfather, and we took his original 8mm film and converted it into a digital format. The footage was all shot in & around the Hollywood area during the early 1940s (except for the small clip of Yellowstone), with most of the scenes taking place at the family home. Their home sat next to the Cross on Cahuenga and provided a wonderful view of Hollywood and the surrounding area. If you're a fan of Hollywood's Golden Age then you'll love this video! You'll see the cars, décor, and more. Because it's a long clip, I've provided a brief outline to navigate through the video. The starred ones are my personal favorites and ones that hig...

The man with the patch is back. Call him Snake. Kurt Russell rejoins filmmakers John Carpenter and Debra Hill to do to the Big Orange what they did to the Big Apple in Escape From New York, with even more futuristic thrills and slam-bang action! Into the 9.6-quaked Los Angeles of 2013 comes Snake Plissken (Russell). His job: wade through L.A.'s ruined landmarks to retrieve a doomsday device. Don't miss the excitement as Snake surfs Wilshire Blvd., shoots hoops at the Coliseum, dive bombs the Happy Kingdom theme park, and mixes it up with a wild assortment of friends, fiends and foes (Stacy Keach, Steve Buscemi, Peter Fonda, George Corraface, Cliff Robertson, Pam Grier and more). Escape From L.A. is a "go-for-broke action extravaganza!" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times).
