Working with Anxiety, Depression, and Other Everyday Problems
Mindfulness-based psychotherapy is the most popular new treatment approach in the last decade—and for good reason. Studies demonstrate that mindfulness practices can be effective tools to help resolve anxiety, depression, addictive habits, stress-related medical disorders, and even interpersonal conflict. Mindfulness is not, however, a one-size-fits-all remedy. We need to tailor practices to particular problems. This talk will outline how mindfulness practices work to alleviate psychological distress and how anyone can creatively adapt them to work with the difficulty of the moment.
About Dr. Siegel
Dr. Ronald D. Siegel is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology, part time, at Harvard Medical School, where he has taught for over 30 years. He is a long time student of mindfulness meditation and serves on the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. He teaches internationally about mindfulness and its application to psychotherapy and other fields, has worked for many years in community mental health with inner city children and families, and maintains a private clinical practice in Lincoln, Massachusetts.
Dr. Siegel is author of a guide for clinicians and general audiences, The Mindfulness Solution: Everyday Practices for Everyday Problems; coauthor of the self-treatment guide Back Sense: A Revolutionary Approach to Halting the Cycle of Chronic Back Pain,; coauthor of a recent skills manual, Sitting Together: Essential Skills for Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy; and coeditor of the critically acclaimed text, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, 2nd Edition as well as Wisdom and Compassion in Psychotherapy: Deepening Mindfulness in Clinical Practice with a foreword by His Holiness the Dali Lama. Google's instant messenger, known as Google Talk, has now become a part of gmail. The application has a user friendly GUI (or Graphic User Interface) and is very easy to set up and use. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to use Google Talk by following the steps mentioned below.
Step 1 -- Logging on to the Website:
First of all you have to log on to the URL: www.gooogle.com/talk. Once the web page loads, locate the "Download Google Talk" button, highlighted in the image below. Click on the button to download the installation file.
Step 2 -- Saving the Setup File on your Hard drive:
After that, your browser's default download manager will ask you whether you want to save the file or discard it. Click on the "Keep" button, if you are using Google Chrome, to start downloading the installation file.
Step 3 -- Installing Google Talk:
Once the application has been downloaded successfully, click on the file (in the downloads window of the browser) and select the "Open" option from the menu. This would start the installation wizard. Once the application has been successfully installed on your computer, the application would automatically open.
Step 4 -- Signing In Google Talk:
On the main screen of Google Talk, you will be required to enter your gmail address in the text field below "Username" and password to log in. Once done, click on the "Sign In" button to log in with the application.
Step 5 -- Adding Your Friends:
To add people to the Google Talk messenger, click on the "Add" button, which is available on the bottom left corner of the window, highlighted in the image below
Step 6 -- Entering in the Contact Details:
Once the new window loads, enter the email address of the person whom you want to add in your messenger. You can also enter multiple email addresses to add more than one person at the same time. Once done, click on the "Next" button to continue.
Step 7 -- Confirmation Message:
Once you have sent the invitation, a confirmation message will appear right in front of you letting you know that the invitation has been sent successfully. Click on the "Finish" button to close this window.
Step 8 -- Sending Voicemail:
Once the person has accepted your invitation, you would see their name appearing within the messenger. Click on the name and a small window will open next to the main window of the messenger. Click on the "Send voicemail" button on top of this window to start sending voice mails to that person.
Step 9 -- Using the Application to Email:
Click on the drop down menu on the top right corner of the profile window. Click on the "Email" option from the menu to send emails to this person through the application.
Step 10 -- Renaming a Profile:
Right click on the person's name and from the menu click on the "Rename" link to rename the profile in your messenger. This allows you to organize all your contacts more effectively.
Step 11 -- Removing a Contact From Your List:
You can also remove or block someone from your messenger's list. For this purpose, simply right click on the person and select the "Remove" option.
Step 12 -- Confirmation Message:
Google Talk will will give a confirmation message, asking you whether you want to remove the contact from your list or not. Click on "OK" to continue with the process or "Cancel" to cancel the process.
Step 13 -- Changing Your Status:
You can even change your status from Available to Busy. To do so, click on the drop down menu below your name, highlighted in the image below, and change your status.
Step 14 -- Setting up a Custom Status:
To personalize a message, simply click on the text box, highlighted in the image below, and write your message. This message would be set as your status on the messenger.
Step 15 -- Signing Out:
To sign out from Google Talk, simply click on the drop down menu and select the "Sign out" option from the menu.

Google Talk is an instant messaging service that provides both text and voice communication. The instant messaging service is colloquially known as "gchat" to its users, although Google does not endorse this name.
Google Talk is also the name of the client applications offered by Google to access the service. Google Talk applications are available for Microsoft Windows (XP, Server 2003, Vista, and Windows 7), Android, Blackberry, and Google Chrome OS operating systems.
Because the Google Talk servers communicate with clients using an open protocol, XMPP, the service can also be accessed using any other client that supports XMPP. Such clients are available for a number of operating systems not supported by the Google Talk client.
VoIP in Google Talk uses an older version of what became the Jingle protocol. The technology used within the Google server network, however, is not publicly known.
Google has announced that a major goal of the Google Talk service is interoperability. Google Talk uses XMPP to provide real-time extensible messaging and presence events, including offline messaging and voice mailing. Google Talk supports messaging with any service provider that supports the XMPP protocol. This includes Earthlink, Gizmo Project, Tiscali, Netease, Chikka, MediaRing, and, according to Google, "thousands of other ISPs, universities, corporations and individual users."

Ryan Rodney Reynolds (born October 23, 1976) is a Canadian film and television actor. Reynolds is known for playing the role of Michael Bergen on ABC's sitcom Two Guys and a Girl (1998–2001), Wade Wilson / Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Hal Jordan / Green Lantern in Green Lantern. He has also appeared in films such as National Lampoon's Van Wilder, Just Friends, Definitely, Maybe, The Proposal, The Change-Up, and Safe House.
Reynolds was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. His father, Jim, is a food wholesaler, and his mother, Tammy, is a retail salesperson. He is of Irish ancestry and was raised as a Roman Catholic. The youngest of four brothers, he graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver in 1994. He later attended Kwantlen Polytechnic University, also in Vancouver, until dropping out.
Reynolds' career began in 1990 when he starred as "Billy" in the Canadian-produced teen soap Hillside, distributed in the United States by Nickelodeon as Fifteen. As an adult, Reynolds starred in the National Lampoon movie Van Wilder and the American television series Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place, playing medical student Michael "Berg" Bergen. Conan Christopher O'Brien (born April 18, 1963) is an American television host, comedian, writer, producer and performer. Since November 2010 he has hosted Conan, a late-night talk show that airs on the American cable television station TBS.
O'Brien was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and raised in an Irish Catholic family. He served as president of the Harvard Lampoon while attending Harvard University, and was a writer for the sketch comedy series Not Necessarily the News. After writing for several comedy shows in Los Angeles, he joined the writing staff of Saturday Night Live, and later of The Simpsons. He hosted Late Night with Conan O'Brien from 1993 to 2009, followed by seven months hosting The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, the only person to serve as the permanent host for both NBC programs.
O'Brien was born in Brookline, Massachusetts (a suburb of Boston) to Thomas O'Brien, a physician, epidemiologist, and professor of medicine at Harvard, and Ruth O'Brien (née Reardon), an attorney and partner at the Boston firm Ropes & Gray. The application has a user friendly GUI (or Graphic User Interface) and is very easy to set up and use. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to use Google Talk by following the steps mentioned below. Step 1 -- Logging on to the Website: First of all you have to log on to the URL: www.gooogle.com/talk. Once the web page loads, locate the "Download Google Talk" button, highlighted in the image below. Click on the button to download the installation file. Step 2 -- Saving the Setup File on your Hard drive: After that, your browser's default download manager will ask you whether you want to save the file or discard it. Click on the "Keep" button, if you are using Google Chrome, to start downloading the installation file. Step 3 -- Installing Google Talk: Once the application has been downloaded successfully, click on the file (in the downloads window of the browser) and select the "Open" option from the menu. This would start the installation wizard. Once the application has been successfully installed on your computer, the application would automatically open. Step 4 -- Signing In Google Talk: On the main screen of Google Talk, you will be required to enter your gmail address in the text field below "Username" and password to log in. Once done, click on the "Sign In" button to log in with the application. Step 5 -- Adding Your Friends: To add people to the Google Talk messenger, click on the "Add" button, which is available on the bottom left corner of the window, highlighted in the image below Step 6 -- Entering in the Contact Details: Once the new window loads, enter the email address of the person whom you want to add in your messenger. You can also enter multiple email addresses to add more than one person at the same time. Once done, click on the "Next" button to continue. Step 7 -- Confirmation Message: Once you have sent the invitation, a confirmation message will appear right in front of you letting you know that the invitation has been sent successfully. Click on the "Finish" button to close this window. Step 8 -- Sending Voicemail: Once the person has accepted your invitation, you would see their name appearing within the messenger. Click on the name and a small window will open next to the main window of the messenger. Click on the "Send voicemail" button on top of this window to start sending voice mails to that person. Step 9 -- Using the Application to Email: Click on the drop down menu on the top right corner of the profile window. Click on the "Email" option from the menu to send emails to this person through the application. Step 10 -- Renaming a Profile: Right click on the person's name and from the menu click on the "Rename" link to rename the profile in your messenger. This allows you to organize all your contacts more effectively. Step 11 -- Removing a Contact From Your List: You can also remove or block someone from your messenger's list. For this purpose, simply right click on the person and select the "Remove" option. Step 12 -- Confirmation Message: Google Talk will will give a confirmation message, asking you whether you want to remove the contact from your list or not. Click on "OK" to continue with the process or "Cancel" to cancel the process. Step 13 -- Changing Your Status: You can even change your status from Available to Busy. To do so, click on the drop down menu below your name, highlighted in the image below, and change your status. Step 14 -- Setting up a Custom Status: To personalize a message, simply click on the text box, highlighted in the image below, and write your message. Dr. Ronald D. Siegel is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology, part time, at Harvard Medical School, where he has taught for over 30 years. He is a long time student of mindfulness meditation and serves on the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. He teaches internationally about mindfulness and its application to psychotherapy and other fields, has worked for many years in community mental health with inner city children and families, and maintains a private clinical practice in Lincoln, Massachusetts.

Step 3 -- Installing Google Talk:
Once the application has been downloaded successfully, click on the file (in the downloads window of the browser) and select the "Open" option from the menu. This would start the installation wizard. Once the application has been successfully installed on your computer, the application would automatically open.

On the main screen of Google Talk, you will be required to enter your gmail address in the text field below "Username" and password to log in. Once done, click on the "Sign In" button to log in with the application.

To add people to the Google Talk messenger, click on the "Add" button, which is available on the bottom left corner of the window, highlighted in the image below
Step 6 -- Entering in the Contact Details:
Once the new window loads, enter the email address of the person whom you want to add in your messenger. You can also enter multiple email addresses to add more than one person at the same time. Once done, click on the "Next" button to continue.
Step 7 -- Confirmation Message:
Once you have sent the invitation, a confirmation message will appear right in front of you letting you know that the invitation has been sent successfully. Click on the "Finish" button to close this window.
Step 8 -- Sending Voicemail:
Once the person has accepted your invitation, you would see their name appearing within the messenger. Click on the name and a small window will open next to the main window of the messenger. Click on the "Send voicemail" button on top of this window to start sending voice mails to that person.
Step 9 -- Using the Application to Email:
Click on the drop down menu on the top right corner of the profile window. Click on the "Email" option from the menu to send emails to this person through the application.
Step 10 -- Renaming a Profile:
Right click on the person's name and from the menu click on the "Rename" link to rename the profile in your messenger. This allows you to organize all your contacts more effectively.
Step 11 -- Removing a Contact From Your List:
You can also remove or block someone from your messenger's list. For this purpose, simply right click on the person and select the "Remove" option.
Step 12 -- Confirmation Message:
Google Talk will will give a confirmation message, asking you whether you want to remove the contact from your list or not. Click on "OK" to continue with the process or "Cancel" to cancel the process.

Google's instant messenger, known as Google Talk, has now become a part of gmail. The application has a user friendly GUI (or Graphic User Interface) and is very easy to set up and use. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to use Google Talk by following the steps mentioned below.
