Sister

A sister is the female offspring of one's parent.

Overview

The term sister comes from Old Norse systir which itself derives from Proto-Germanic *swestēr, both of whom have the same meaning, i.e. sister. Some studies have found that sisters display more traits indicating jealousy around their siblings than their male counterparts, brothers. In some cultures, sisters are afforded a role of being under the protection by male siblings, especially older brothers from issues ranging from bullies or sexual advances by womanizers.

Studies

Various studies have shown that an older sister is likely to give a varied gender role to their younger siblings as well as being more likely to develop a close bond with their younger siblings. Older sisters are more likely to play with their younger siblings. Younger siblings display a more needy behavior when in close proximity to their older sister and are more likely to be tolerant of an older sisters bad behavior. Boys with only an older sister are more likely to display stereotypically male behavior, and such masculine boys increased their masculine behavior with the more sisters they have. The reverse is true for young boys with several sisters, as they tend to be feminine, however they outgrow this by the time they approach pubescence. Boys with older sisters were less likely to be delinquent or have Emotional and behavioral disorders. A younger sister is less likely to be scolded by older siblings than a younger brother. The most common recreational activity between older brother/younger sister pairs was art drawing. Some studies also found a correlation between having an older sister and constructive discussions about safe sexual practises.

Sisters (stylized as SISTERS) is the fourth full-length studio album by Japanese idol group Idoling!!!. It reached number 17 on Oricon chart. The song "Makehende" used as Fuji TV "Wakeari NÄ“-san EX" ending song.

Sisters (1973 film)

Sisters (also known as Blood Sisters in the United Kingdom) is a 1973 American psychological horror film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Margot Kidder, Jennifer Salt and Charles Durning. The plot focuses on a French Canadian model whose separated Siamese twin is suspected of a brutal murder witnessed by a newspaper reporter in Staten Island.

Largely influenced by the films of Alfred Hitchcock, the script for the film was written by De Palma and Louisa Rose, and the score composed by Bernard Herrmann. Sisters was the first thriller for De Palma, who followed this film with other shocking, graphic thrillers.

Plot

Advertising salesman Philip Woode (Lisle Wilson) is the victim of a prank on a Candid Camera-style television show and wins a dinner for two at a New York restaurant. He takes with him Danielle Breton (Margot Kidder), a naive young French Canadian model and aspiring actress who was hired as part of the prank. At dinner, they are interrupted by Danielle's controlling ex-husband Emil (William Finley), but Philip has him thrown out by security. They arrive to Danielle's Staten Island apartment, but spot Emil waiting outside; Philip pretends to leave to lure him away, then returns through the back entrance and the two make love on the living room sofa.

TV9 (Kannada)

TV9 Kannada (Kannada: ಟಿವಿ ೯ ಕರ�ನಾಟಕ) is a 24-hour Kannada language news television channel. It was launched on 22 June 2006. The channel is owned by Sneha Television network. TV9 Kannada has a wide range of programs from hourly news, analysis of major news events and interviews.

The news channel is owned by Hylab (ABCl) group from Hyderabad which has news channels in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other states.

The channel's slogan is "For a Better Society". This is special for a 24-hour news channel with live news. Recently this broadcast company started a spiritual channel in Telugu called Samskruthi, which is especially for spiritual programmes such as Bajanasand and Prathans by rohithjayaram.

TV9 (Malaysia)

TV9 is a free-to-air private television station in Malaysia. TV9 began broadcasting on 22 April 2006 as a subsidiary of Media Prima Berhad. It formerly existed as Channel 9, which began airing on 9 September 2003 and ceased transmission on 1 February 2005 due to financial difficulties faced by the operator.

TV9 broadcasts programmes that are marketed mostly to Muslim Malays in Malaysia. Its line-up is of religious shows, Indonesian dramas and Nickelodeon animated shows.

History

As Channel 9

Channel 9 began its on-air broadcast on 9 September 2003 and its workforce mostly consist of the former MetroVision employees. The channel's line-up consisted of programmes in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. It also featured a TV Shopping programme.

Anaza Sdn Bhd, the then-operator of THR.fm, acquired Channel 9 from Medanmas Sdn. Bhd. Subsequently, Channel 9 launched its new slogan Malaysia...lah! in 2004.

Under the new management, a slot dedicated for Hindi movies, known as Hindi Power, which also included Tamil Bollywood programmes, was introduced. It airs from 16:00 to 20:00 local time daily.
