Gummy (singer)

Park Ji Yeon (Hangul: 박지연; born April 8, 1981), better known by her stage name Gummy (Hangul: 거미, Korean for spider), is a South Korean recording artist formerly signed to YG Entertainment.

History

2003-2009: Debut and Breakthrough Success

Gummy debuted in 2003 with her album Like Them. Due to the success of other label mates, Her second studio album, It's Different, was released on September 9, 2004. Her title track Memory Loss (기억상실) brought her success and recognition and led Gummy to win the Bonsang at the 19th Golden Disk Awards. The same year, Gummy earned at the 2004 Mnet Km Music Festival for Mobile Popularity Award for Memory Loss.

She released her fourth album titled Comfort on March 12, 2008, and it is her first released in three years. The album was postponed several times because Gummy wanted to release a high-quality album that showed her growth as an artist. The lead single I'm Sorry (미안해요) features T.O.P from Big Bang; he is also featured in the music video, along with Sandara Park from 2NE1. A week after its release, the song peaked within the top five spots on various digital charts.

Valley Heights Secondary School (in French, "L'École Secondaire Valley Heights") is a two-story rural high school located near Walsingham, Ontario, Canada. The official initials for this high school are VHSS.

Summary

Opened in 1971, Valley Heights sits on a property that spans 100 acres (400,000 m²) and includes fields, Carolinian forests, rivers and marshy areas. Valley Heights also has a large cross country running course. The school has hosted the Norfolk County High School cross country meet on numerous occasions. This school is the only high school in the entire Haldimand-Norfolk-Brant region to receive top marks for stewardship of the environment, minimizing the waste of natural resources, and conserving energy for future generations of Valley Heights students. The idea was started in 2008 and was deemed successful in 2011. Even though a sizeable amount of students who attend Valley Heights are not Mennonites, the location of the school makes it ideal for Mennonites to attend as it is adjacent to the farmland that their parents work on.

Critical response

The film earned mainly positive reviews from critics. Ivan Kander of short of the week gave film the positive review said "Edgerton isn’t trying to surprise you—he already pulled off that magic trick once with Spider. Instead, he’s reveling a bit in a sort of misanthropic playground. Our protagonist is a cartoon character of sorts—the Wile E. Coyote of cinematic schadenfreude. He’s always getting himself, and his loved ones, into the darndest, deadliest situations. And, all the while, we can’t help but laugh at his misfortune." David Brook of blue print review gave the film three and a half out of five stars and said "A sequel to Spider, Bear basically replays the gag in a new setting. Predictable of course for this reason, but still funny and well produced." Another critic in his review said that "Reviewing a film this short is going to be fairly similar to reviewing an advert, because and with so little time to build character or a world, it essentially comes down to did you did or did you didn’t like the punch. In this case, I did, it gave me a legitimate ‘ I didn’t see that coming’ moment, upon the fact that it was coolly put together and even pulls of a very impressive stunt. Not one I’ll remember for the rest of my days for sure, but an amusing distraction, which is exactly what I think it was designed to be."

Ryan (film)

Ryan is a 2004 animated documentary created and directed by Chris Landreth about Canadian animator Ryan Larkin, who had lived on skid row in Montreal as a result of drug and alcohol abuse. Landreth's chance meeting with Larkin in 2000 inspired him to develop the film, which took 18 months to complete. It was co-produced by Copper Heart Entertainment and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), and its creation and development is the subject of the NFB documentary Alter Egos. The film incorporated material from archive sources, particularly Larkin's works at the NFB.

The film is an animated interpretation of an interview of Larkin by Landreth, and includes interviews with Larkin's previous partner and coworkers, as well as Landreth. Development of the characters was partially inspired by the plastinated human bodies of the Body Worlds exhibition. The distorted and disembodied appearance of the film's characters is based on Landreth's use of psychological realism to portray emotion visually, and expression is modelled by use of straight ahead animation. The animation was created at the Animation Arts Centre of Seneca College in Toronto. Some of the animation was based on cords, mathematical equations modelling the physical properties of curves and used to animate filamentous objects in the film. The visual effects of the film has been described by reviewers and film critics as difficult to describe and having a distinctive visceral style.
