The Escape (Spanish:La fuga ) is a 1944 Mexican historical adventure film directed by Norman Foster and starring Esther Fernandez, Ricardo Montalban and Carlos Orellana. It is based on a novel by Guy de Maupassant. The sets were designed by the art director José Rodríguez Granada. Fernandez's success in the film secured her a contract from the Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures.

The film is set during the French Intervention in Mexico. As the Republican forces of Benito Juarez close in on Mexico City, a group of pro-Imperial supporters flee on a stagecoach to the port city of Veracruz.

Jane (1915 film)

Jane is a 1915 American silent film produced by the Oliver Morosco company and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is based on a stage play Jane by W.H. Lestocq and Harry Nicholls. Frank Lloyd directed, early in his career, and up-and-coming stage comic Charlotte Greenwood debuts and stars in her first motion picture. This was Lloyd's second directed feature film after several years of making shorts. This film survives in the Library of Congress.

Jane (software)

Jane 128 was a GUI-based integrated software package for the Commodore 64 and Commodore 128 personal computers. It was developed by Arktronics and released by Commodore International in 1985. Like Commodore's earlier Magic Desk software, and somewhat typically for "user-friendly" software of the era, it used a literal desktop metaphor with the interface consisting of an onscreen graphic of a desktop with icons representing associated business tools - a typewriter represented the word processor component (called JaneWrite), a filing cabinet the database (JaneList) and so on. It was designed to be controlled by either a joystick or a mouse. Like most of the other examples of integrated software for home computers, Jane's components were criticized for being slow and limited It was not a success in the marketplace but represented an early example of a graphical interface on an 8-bit computer.

Arktronics was a software development company in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jane was originally intended to be a package not only for the Commodore line, but also for the Apple, Atari, and others. This transportability was engineered by a combination of higher level systems written in the C language and machine specific drivers written in the assembly language for each machine. Jane was originally developed for the Commodore 64 within the Commodore line.

Escape (Jessop and Palmer book)

Escape is a book by Carolyn Jessop and Laura Palmer. It discusses Jessop's upbringing in the FLDS polygamous community. Her childhood was affected by the sect's suspicion of outsiders, the division that took place in that FLDS in the 1970s and '80s and by the increasing strictness of the sect her family belonged to. She experienced life with a mother who suffered from depression and was violent with her children. She observed conflict between her parents over celebrating Christmas and the effect of her surroundings and the strictness of the sect on her mother's mental condition and on her mother's relationship with her husband. Importantly for later, she observed and learned how to work round her mother's mood swings and how other children reacted to spanking so as to mitigate the violence but she also learned from her grandmother to take great pride in her church's tradition of plural marriage.

Carolyn wanted to go to college and study medicine but when her father went to seek permission for her to go to college, the condition was that she marry Merril Jessop. It was arranged that she marry Jessop in two days, and to prevent her running away, she had to sleep in her parents' bedroom. She wrote, "The idea of sexual or physical contact with a man thirty-two years my senior was terrifying " Merril Jessop already had three other wives.
