But it was as a live performer that Jock best expressed himself, often opening events for music acts including Ian Dury, Joe Strummer or the Libertines; a daring master of the pause, he could silence rowdy audiences with his words ... Son of Dot and Jock, he was born John Leslie in Leith, and might well have remained north of the border had he not made his way backstage after a 1978 Dury gig in Edinburgh....

Jock Scot, punk poet. Born. Leith 21 September 1952 in Edinburgh. Died. 13 April 2016 in London, aged 63 ... Attending an Ian Dury and the Blockheads gig in Edinburgh at the tail end of the 1970s, he made his way into the dressing room and hit it off with Dury, accompanying the group to London and eventually talking his way into a job at the famed Stiff Records label. It was “the grooviest job going,” he told the Idler many years later ... ....
