A color chart or color reference card is a flat, physical object that has many different color samples present. They can be available as a one page chart, or in the form of swatchbooks or color-matching fans.
Typically there are two different types of color charts:
Color reference charts are used for color comparisons and measurements such as checking the color reproduction of an imaging system, and calibration and/or profiling of digital input devices such as digital cameras, and scanners and output display systems like printers, monitors and projectors. They are also used by traditional photographers and cinematographers to calibrate cameras that use film and to check the color temperature of the lighting.
Color (American English) or colour (Commonwealth English) is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, blue, yellow, etc. Color derives from the spectrum of light (distribution of light power versus wavelength) interacting in the eye with the spectral sensitivities of the light receptors. Color categories and physical specifications of color are also associated with objects or materials based on their physical properties such as light absorption, reflection, or emission spectra. By defining a color space colors can be identified numerically by their coordinates.
Because perception of color stems from the varying spectral sensitivity of different types of cone cells in the retina to different parts of the spectrum, colors may be defined and quantified by the degree to which they stimulate these cells. These physical or physiological quantifications of color, however, do not fully explain the psychophysical perception of color appearance.
The science of color is sometimes called chromatics, colorimetry, or simply color science. It includes the perception of color by the human eye and brain, the origin of color in materials, color theory in art, and the physics of electromagnetic radiation in the visible range (that is, what we commonly refer to simply as light).
Primary Colors may refer to:

B&H Photo Video, founded in 1973 and located at 420 Ninth Avenue on the corner of West 34th Street in Manhattan, New York City, is the largest non-chain photo and video equipment store in the United States.
The store targets professional photographers and videographers. Although it is visited by more than 5,000 customers every day from Sunday to Friday, most of the company's business comes from internet and corporate sales. It also runs a warehouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The store carries a wide range of electronics products, with emphasis on professional and specialty photographic equipment.
The business is owned by Herman Schreiber. Schreiber and many of the store's employees are observant Satmar Hasidic Jews who close the store on Shabbat, most Jewish holidays (except for Hanukkah, when business dealings are permitted), and Christmas. The website remains open, but orders are not taken or shipped between Friday evening and Saturday evening and on Jewish holidays. The store employs hundreds of Orthodox Jews. An Orthodox Jewish bus company provides daily service to and from Kiryas Joel, a Satmar village in Orange County, New York.

Classical oil painter Thomas Baker demonstrates how to create personal color charts to aid the artist in mixing color.
In this tutorial I will show you how to make 64 different colors using a basic 8 color watercolor set. This is a great way to learn how to mix colors with your watercolors. All you need is a set of watercolors (8 color set; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown, and black), watercolor paper, a paintbrush, water container, a few paper towels, a pencil, and optional pen and ruler. We will start by making an 8x8 square grid, you can use a ruler or draw it freehand. The we will label it and begin to fill it with color. Enjoy! Why would you use a color chart in video and film production or post production? With a color chart like the X-Rite Color Checker Passport Video, you can set your exposure and white balance quickly during your shoot, and in post you can quickly and easily color correct your footage. But perhaps more importantly, a color chart can help you learn how to produce better video and how to color correct and grade your footage more effectively. Using a chart can teach you how your camera reacts to and interprets color and light and that will help you make better decisions when shooting and editing. In this demo, we look quickly at some ways you can use a color chart in editing/post production to fix exposure and especially color balance issues. We also quickly look at using a color chart to unders...
