This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article:
Vegetarianism and wine
Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written
language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through
audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio
while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using
a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
You can find other Wikipedia audio articles too at:

SUMMARY

Wine is sometimes finished with animal products. Specifically, finings used to remove organic impurities and improve clarity and flavour include several animal products, including casein, albumen, gelatin and isinglass.

Today's video:
Vitamin B12, the
Achillesâ heel of veganism or just another example of the animal farming industries clutching at straws?
In their 2022 We Eat Balanced campaign, the AHDB advocate for the consumption of animal products by stating that itâs a natural source of vitamin B12.
However, when we consider that the majority of the animals we consume are either supplemented with B12 in the first place, or the minerals required for them to produce B12, it becomes apparent that this isnât even true.
But more to the point, does it even matter if we get vitamin B12 naturally or unnaturally? The idea that something being natural means that it is better is clearly a misguided idea. There are many things that are natural but clearly terrible, such as certain diseases like anthrax, and there are many things that are unnatural but clearly good, such as medications like synthetic antibiotics.
In fact, the way that we live is completely unnatural, from the homes we live in and the clothes we wear, to even the food we eat.
Animal agriculture as an industry is unnatural due to it being a human construct that revolves around domestication, selective breeding, artificial insemination, and the list goes on. Even the bananas we eat are a product of selective breeding and are therefore unnatural - interestingly without being selectively bred bananas would naturally have been almost inedible.
So what is natural is not what is relevant, and in the case of B12 we can get what we need through eating fortified plant foods and taking a supplement. So we have the choice to either get B12 that way, or through supporting an industry that is not only one of the key drivers of the climate crisis, but also causes unimaginable suffering and cruelty to animals.

Trenton Doyle Hancock: Real Biography | Art21 "Extended Play"
Episode #181:Â Speaking from James Cohan Gallery, New York in late 2012, artist Trenton Doyle Hancock describes how his work has evolved over the past ten years. When Art21 first filmed the Houston-based artist in 2002, all of his paintings and drawings were filtered through a fictional narrative and characters he called "Mounds" and "Vegans." Hancock created these stories to give structure to his wide-ranging interests and ideas. The Mounds and Vegans have appeared in numerous exhibitions, a storybook, a mural at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and even a ballet. It was while watching the ballet that Hancock realized it was time to move on from the tale.
Influenced by the history of painting, especially Abstract Expressionism, Hancock transforms traditionally formal decisions- such as the use...

Trenton Doyle Hancock: "The Former and the Ladder or Ascension & a Cinchin'" | Art21 "Extended Play"
Episode #190: Filmed in 2012 at James Cohan Gallery in New York City, artist Trenton Doyle Hancock discusses his large-scale collage "The Former and the Ladder or Ascension and a Cinchin'" (2012). Made from materials that Hancock accumulated over a fifteen-year period, including scraps from some of his earlier artworks, it provides a condensed overview of his artistic development to-date. The artist, who recently moved away from his longtime Mounds and Vegans narrative, describes the central figure as busting out of shackles and "trying to get free of something." "The Former and the Ladder or Ascension and a Cinchin'" is held in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts collection.

Trenton Doyle Hancockâs Epic Saga of the Mounds | Art21
Art21 proudly presents an artist segment, featuring Trenton Doyle Hancock, from the "Stories" episode in Season 2 of the "Art in the Twenty-First Century" series.
"Stories" premiered in September 2003 on PBS.
Hancockâs drawings, installations, paintings tell the epic story of a group of mythical creatures called Mounds. While developing the most recent installment of his story, Hancock explains that his newest series of allegorical paintings are âcolorful blasts of energy or communication from Mounds, these visions of hope. So in a way itâs like Godâs promise with the rainbow after the flood.â

Trenton Doyle Hancock Artist Response - Philip Guston: On Edge
On the occasion of âPhilip Guston, 1969-1979â at our Chelsea gallery at 542 West 22nd Street, an influential group of academics, visual artists, and visionaries gathered at the SVA Theatre on 10 Sep 2021 for a special live streamed symposium to celebrate and discuss the work, life, and legacy of Philip Guston, one of the most significant painters of the twentieth century.
The artistic liberation Guston maintained throughout his career in the face of criticism served as inspiration for our symposium, which featured a combination of panels, scholarly lectures, and individual artist responses that offered valuable insights and new analyses into the artist and his practice.

Trenton Doyle Hancock: Skin and Bones, 20 Years of Drawing
For nearly two decades since his graduation from Temple University, Trenton Doyle Hancock has brought to life a cast of colorfulâand often not so colorfulâcharacters through his work. At the center of Hancock's storytelling is an imaginative and epic narrative about fictional creatures called the Mounds, who populate a wildly fantastic, inventive landscape. The artist's use of vivid imagery and mythology has earned him national and international recognition and prompted a fascination with the foundation of his practice. What emerges upon further examination of those foundations is a wide-range of influences including comics, graphic novels, cartoons, music, and film. While Hancock's paintings have become widely known, his drawings--both discrete and monumental--have not been fully explored...

Draw Them In, Paint Them Out: Trenton Doyle Hancock Confronts Philip Guston
by Rebecca Shaykin
Contributions by Trenton Doyle Hancock, Valerie Cassel Oliver and Art Spiegelman
A defining figure of the New York School, Philip Guston (1913â1980) frequently alluded to racism, antisemitism, and fascism in his work. In the 1960s and 1970s, Guston, who often grappled with his Jewish identity and assimilation into American culture, controversially portrayed himself as a cartoonish Klansman to deflate the power of the Klanâs hateful symbolism, as well as to acknowledge his own complicity in white supremacy.
Trenton Doyle Hancock (b. 1974) is a leading contemporary artist who has looked to Guston as a source of inspiration for nearly three decades. In 2014 Hancock created a series of drawings t...

Presented March 31, 2012 at the Nasher Sculpture Center.
While not defining himself as a sculptor, and working largely in drawing, painting, collage, and happenings, Trenton Doyle Hancock speaks in this presentation about the artworks he makes which âtake up spaceâ. He discusses the evolution of his narrative, graphic based practice which follows the characters of the "Mounds" and "Vegans" within fantastical fictional worlds, as well as more recent public art installations and commissions.
Trenton Doyle Hancock was born in 1974 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Raised in Paris, Texas, Hancock earned his BFA from Texas A&M; University, Commerce, and his MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia. Hancockâs prints, drawings, and collaged-felt paintings work together to tell the story of the Moundsâa group of mythical creatures that are the tragic protagonists of the artistâs unfolding narrative. Each new work by Hancock is a contribution to the saga of the Mounds, portraying the birth, life, death, afterlife, and even dream states of these half-animal, half-plant creatures. Influenced by the history of painting, especially Abstract Expressionism, Hancock transforms traditionally formal decisionsâsuch as the use of color, language, and patternâinto opportunities to create new characters, develop sub-plots, and convey symbolic meaning. Hancockâs paintings often rework Biblical stories that the artist learned as a child from his family and local church community. Balancing moral dilemmas with wit and a musical sense of language and color, Hancockâs works create a painterly space of psychological dimensions. Trenton Doyle Hancock was featured in the 2000 and 2002 Whitney Biennial exhibitions, one of the youngest artists in history to participate in this prestigious survey. His work has been the subject of one-person exhibitions at Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth; and Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. The recipient of numerous awards, Hancock lives and works in Houston, where he was a 2002 Core Artist in Residence at the Glassell School of Art of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Trenton Doyle Hancock was born in 1974 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Learn more about the artist at: https://art21.org/artist/trenton-doyle-hancock

Embark on a mind-bending adventure with artist Doyle Hancock as he creates a deeply personal universe filled with captivating characters and narratives. Discover the evolution of Trentonâs work as he takes on the role of film director as he explores the art world through the eyes of himself as the central character.
In this video, I'm interviewing Houston artist Trenton Doyle Hancock. Trenton Doyle Hancock has been featured on Artists of Our Time - Art21, a featured artist in the Whitney Biennial (2x), and in the permanent collections of The Menil Collection, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many contemporary museums across the United States.
If you're a fan of art or documentary films, you'll want to watch this interview! In it, you'll learn about Trenton Doyle Hancock's unique art style and why he's one of the most influential artists of our time. Run time 4:10, part one of two art documentary installments.
===
In the summer of 2013, Trenton Doyle Hancock and his wife visited San Diego for the first time to attend Comic-Con.
Trenton stayed at my home. We laughed and visited with many great artists. All the while, Trenton sketched and worked on a series of drawings that would later make up his retrospective, âSkin and Bones,â at the Houston Contemporary Museum and âEMITâ at the Ringling Museum of Art.
Mr. Hancock was experimenting with animation and transforming his drawings into a series of flickering portraits showcasing the artist morphing into an artist avatar floating within the digital realm as TDH signature eyelids, lips, and ears were tugged and pulled to create character momentum of space and the rhythm of time.
At that exact time, filmmaker Calvin Florian visited the house to capture Trenton Doyle Hancock and Joo Young Choi in an intimate interview setting. Working with Calvin and his team while documenting Trenton Doyle Hancockâs evolution and contemporary re-evaluation is an honor. Joo Young also rebuilt her studio and transformed her practice into animation, puppetry, and painting. (Stay tuned for a video featuring Joo Young soon).
For almost two decades, Trenton Doyle Hancock has been constructing his fantastical narrative that continues developing and informing his prolific artistic output. Part fictional, part autobiographical, Hancockâs work pulls from his personal experiences, political positions, and biblical upbringing. Trentonâs prolific works include an ever-evolving mythology of color-induced paintings, drawings, objects, films, and printmaking.

mM: I love your piece, A Lateral Movement: Hit the Ground Punching.
Trenton: Thanks. This particular piece is less about deconstructing a form and more about animation and the re-evaluation of form. My recent interest in transitional arrangements led me to focus on the egg as a symbol of birth and potentiality. The main character (the centrally located punching figure) was conceived as an egg splitting down the side with arms spilling out. I wanted to imply motion, so I began to overlap the arms, suggesting flailing. I eventually pasted the whole drawing onto a small canvas and began to add more detail to the egg, like fur. At this point, I wanted the egg to be reminiscent of the black and white striped mound forms I once painted. After that, I collaged two painted eyeballs to the side of the mound form. In doing so, the wide shot of some faceless being turned immediately into a portrait. The eyes gave the character an endearing quality. The form now feels like a head buried up to its neck. Flailing arms became similar to brain matter trying to escape the confines of the head.
===
Trenton Doyle Hancock was featured in the 2000 and 2002 Whitney Biennial exhibitions, becoming one of the youngest artists in history to participate in the prestigious survey. Trenton is a premiere museum artist whose gallery installations are to be noticed.
There will be a longer feature film soon. I designed and worked with Trenton on his Ringling Art Museum catalog for EMIT, curated by Matthew McLendon. I was honored to find out Trenton hung the EMIT in the exhibition.

While Hancock's paintings have become widely known, his drawings--both discrete and monumental--have not been fully explored before now. "Trenton Doyle Hancock: Skin and Bones, 20 Years of Drawing" is the first in-depth examination of Hancock's extensive body of drawings, collages, and works on paper.
The exhibition features more than two hundred works of art as well as a collection of the artist's notebooks, sketchbooks, and studies, many showing the preparation for several public commissions. Comprehensive in scope, this survey includes works from 1984 to 2014, chronicling the foundation of the artist's prolific career. The exhibition provides a glimpse into the evolution of Hancock's idiosyncratic vision beginning in his childhood. Ephemera such as early childhood drawings and the artist's comic strip that ran in a college newspaper are featured to allow viewers to see the genesis of the artist's mythology as well as the evolution of his practice.
"Skin and Bones" includes a range of the artist's presentation of drawings from graphite on paper to paper affixed to canvas, from the use of collage to the use of wall as an expansive plane for monumental works. Inherent in the presentation of these drawings is the exploration of the artist's conceptual framework and the narratives that manifest throughout his bodies of work. The exhibition presents a more focused concentration on his use of line and mark making as well as his approach to the tradition of drawing and his ability to implode that tradition through mechanical dexterity and conceptual weight.
The exhibition is organized into five sections:
"Epidemic" includes ephemera such as the artist's early sketches, cartoons that he created for his college newspaper first at Paris Junior College and then later at Eastern Texas State University (now Texas A&M; at Commerce), and features the debut of a new series of thirty drawings entitled "Step and Screw."
"The Studio Floor" is a series of ten drawings that Hancock credits as the catalyst to his subsequent practice of bringing the graphic narrative of comic books and cartoons into his contemporary art practice.
"Moundish" includes drawings associated with the artist's iconic mythology of the Mound: its birth, life, and death; the cosmology of characters that it encounters; and the struggles between good and evil.
"From the Mirror" examines self-portraiture within his work from the past two decades.
The final section, "The Liminal Room," showcases stand-alone works that explore the artist's experimentation with drawing as a medium and practice.
Among the works featured are monumental, site-specific wall drawings, wallpaper created by the artist and produced by the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, as well as the debut of a digital animation by the artist. The exhibition is organized by Valerie Cassel Oliver, CAMH Senior Curator. The exhibition will be on view at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston through August 3, 2014 before travelling to the Akron Art Museum in Ohio where it will be on view September 6, 2014, to January 4, 2015.

In 2014 Hancock created a series of drawings that interweaves Gustonâs biography, Hancockâs family history, and the history of lynching in Hancockâs hometown, and introduces Hancockâs avatar, a Black superhero named Torpedoboy who confronts Gustonâs hooded alter ego.
In bringing together these two trailblazing artists from different generations, this volume situates Gustonâs and Hancockâs works in their social and political contexts and explores the way that art, activism, and humor can deepen our understanding of the Black and Jewish experiences in the United States. The book also features Hancock in conversation with curator Valerie Cassel Oliver and award-winning author and cartoonist Art Spiegelman.
