Ferrara è situata nella zona del delta del fiume Po, il centro storico è circa 6 km a sud del ramo principale del fiume, mentre un ramo meridionale del delta, il Po di Volano, delimita la città medioevale con la sua cinta muraria, separandola dall'ancor più antico borgo di San Giorgio.
È una città di grande interesse urbanistico in quanto durante il Rinascimento vi furono realizzate le prime grandi progettazioni urbanistiche della storia europea moderna, il più noto dei quali è l'Addizione Erculea, commissionata nel 1484 dal duca Ercole I d'Este all'architetto Biagio Rossetti. La nuova parte della città viene chiamata Arianuova, sia per la sua collocazione esterna al vecchio asse del castello medievale, sia perché connotata fino alla fine del XIX secolo da ampie aree verdi prive di edifici, dette "orti e giardini", interne alle nuove possenti mura rossettiane. Grazie a quest'opera architettonica Ferrara viene considerata dagli studiosi la prima città moderna d'Europa.

We tour of the Renaissance city of Ferrara, including the 14thC Estense Castle with its moat, drawbridges, marble balconies and sumptuous apartments, and the Schifanoia Palace with its fabulous 15thC frescoes. We also see the cathedral façade with its sculpted images described as an Illustrated Bible.
Ferrara, which grew up around a ford over the River Po, has a rich cultural heritage with renowned artists, writers, musicians and scientists all leaving their mark. In the 15th and 16th centuries Ferrara became an intellectual and artistic centre that attracted the greatest minds of the Italian Renaissance. One of Ferrara's most famous university graduates is Nicolaus Copernicus (1503).
The town has broad streets and numerous palaces dating from the 14th and 15th century when it hosted the court of the House of Este. The town is still surrounded by more than 5 miles of ancient walls, mainly built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Together with those of Lucca, they are the best preserved Renaissance walls in Italy.
The origin of Ferrara is uncertain. It was probably settled by the inhabitants of the lagoons at the mouth of the Po River. Ferrara first appears in a document of 753 AD.
The House of Este settled in Ferrara in the 12th century and for four centuries Ferrara was the uninterrupted seat of the d'Este court. During the reign of Ercole d'Este I, one of the most significant patrons of the arts in late 15th and early 16th century Italy, Ferrara grew into a cultural centre, renowned for music as well as for visual arts. Alfonso I, son of Ercole, was also an important patron. His preference for instrumental music resulted in Ferrara becoming an important centre of composition for the lute. Alfonso married the notorious Lucrezia Borgia.
The architecture of Ferrara benefited from the genius of Biagio Rossetti who, in 1484, was asked by Ercole I to redesign the plan of the city. The resulting Addizione Erculea is one of the most important and beautiful examples of renaissance city planning and contributed to the selection of Ferrara as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
REGIONAL SIGHTS
The most iconic building of the town is the ancient ducal fortress Castello Estense. Sited in the very center of the town, it's a brick building surrounded by a moat, with four massive bastions. It was built starting in 1385 and partly restored in 1554 with the addition of pavilions on the top of the towers. The fortress, with its drawbridges and unusual battlements, also houses marble balconies and sumptuous apartments.
The ancient City Hall, renovated in the 18th century, was the earlier residence of the Este family. The former Cathedral of Saint George was begun in 1135 when the Romanesque lower part of the main façade and the side façades were completed. The upper part of the main façade, with arcades of pointed arches and the elaborate relief sculptures depicting the Last Judgement, date from the 13th century. The campanile, in the Renaissance style, dates from 1451-1493, but the last story was added at the end of the 16th century. The interior was restored in the Baroque style in 1712.
Ferrara has many early Renaissance palaces. Among the finest palaces is Palazzo dei Diamanti, named after the diamond points into which the façade's stone blocks are cut. The palazzo houses the National Picture Gallery with a large collection of the school of Ferrara. The Casa Romei is the best preserved Renaissance building in Ferrara. It was the residence of Giovanni Romei, related to Este family by marriage. It did not fall into decay because it was inherited by the nuns of the Corpus Domini order who lived there without making any changes to its structure. Much of the
decoration in the inner rooms has been saved. The Corpus Domini Monastery contains tombs of the House of Este.

Ferrara
Ferrara ([ferˈraːra] 
listen ) is a city and comune in Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy, capital city of the Province of Ferrara. It is situated 50 kilometres (31 miles) north-northeast of Bologna, on the Po di Volano, a branch channel of the main stream of the Po River, located 5 km (3 miles) north. The town has broad streets and numerous palaces dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, when it hosted the court of the House of Este. For its beauty and cultural importance it has been qualified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
Modern times have brought a renewal of industrial activity. Ferrara is on the main rail line from Bologna to Padua and Venice, and has branches to Ravenna, Poggio Rusco (for Suzzara) and Codigoro.

Origins
Ferrara was probably settled by the inhabitants of the lagoons at the mouth of Po river; there are two early centers of settlement, one round the cathedral, the other, the castrum bizantino, on the opposite shore, where the Primaro empties into the Volano channel. Ferrara appears first in a document of the Lombard king Desiderius of 753 AD, as a city forming part of the Exarchate of Ravenna. Desiderius pledged a Lombard ducatus ferrariae ("Duchy of Ferrara") in 757 to Pope Stephen II.

Ferrara è situata nella zona del delta del fiume Po, il centro storico è circa 6 km a sud del ramo principale del fiume, mentre un ramo meridionale del delta, il Po di Volano, delimita la città medioevale con la sua cinta muraria, separandola dall'ancor più antico borgo di San Giorgio.
È una città di grande interesse urbanistico in quanto durante il Rinascimento vi furono realizzate le prime grandi progettazioni urbanistiche della storia europea moderna, il più noto dei quali è l'Addizione Erculea, commissionata nel 1484 dal duca Ercole I d'Este all'architetto Biagio Rossetti. La nuova parte della città viene chiamata Arianuova, sia per la sua collocazione esterna al vecchio asse del castello medievale, sia perché connotata fino alla fine del XIX secolo da ampie aree verdi prive di edifici, dette "orti e giardini", interne alle nuove possenti mura rossettiane. Grazie a quest'opera architettonica Ferrara viene considerata dagli studiosi la prima città moderna d'Europa.

We tour of the Renaissance city of Ferrara, including the 14thC Estense Castle with its moat, drawbridges, marble balconies and sumptuous apartments, and the Schifanoia Palace with its fabulous 15thC frescoes. We also see the cathedral façade with its sculpted images described as an Illustrated Bible.
Ferrara, which grew up around a ford over the River Po, has a rich cultural heritage with renowned artists, writers, musicians and scientists all leaving their mark. In the 15th and 16th centuries Ferrara became an intellectual and artistic centre that attracted the greatest minds of the Italian Renaissance. One of Ferrara's most famous university graduates is Nicolaus Copernicus (1503).
The town has broad streets and numerous palaces dating from the 14th and 15th century when it hosted the court of the House of Este. The town is still surrounded by more than 5 miles of ancient walls, mainly built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Together with those of Lucca, they are the best preserved Renaissance walls in Italy.
The origin of Ferrara is uncertain. It was probably settled by the inhabitants of the lagoons at the mouth of the Po River. Ferrara first appears in a document of 753 AD.
The House of Este settled in Ferrara in the 12th century and for four centuries Ferrara was the uninterrupted seat of the d'Este court. During the reign of Ercole d'Este I, one of the most significant patrons of the arts in late 15th and early 16th century Italy, Ferrara grew into a cultural centre, renowned for music as well as for visual arts. Alfonso I, son of Ercole, was also an important patron. His preference for instrumental music resulted in Ferrara becoming an important centre of composition for the lute. Alfonso married the notorious Lucrezia Borgia.
The architecture of Ferrara benefited from the genius of Biagio Rossetti who, in 1484, was asked by Ercole I to redesign the plan of the city. The resulting Addizione Erculea is one of the most important and beautiful examples of renaissance city planning and contributed to the selection of Ferrara as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
REGIONAL SIGHTS
The most iconic building of the town is the ancient ducal fortress Castello Estense. Sited in the very center of the town, it's a brick building surrounded by a moat, with four massive bastions. It was built starting in 1385 and partly restored in 1554 with the addition of pavilions on the top of the towers. The fortress, with its drawbridges and unusual battlements, also houses marble balconies and sumptuous apartments.
The ancient City Hall, renovated in the 18th century, was the earlier residence of the Este family. The former Cathedral of Saint George was begun in 1135 when the Romanesque lower part of the main façade and the side façades were completed. The upper part of the main façade, with arcades of pointed arches and the elaborate relief sculptures depicting the Last Judgement, date from the 13th century. The campanile, in the Renaissance style, dates from 1451-1493, but the last story was added at the end of the 16th century. The interior was restored in the Baroque style in 1712.
Ferrara has many early Renaissance palaces. Among the finest palaces is Palazzo dei Diamanti, named after the diamond points into which the façade's stone blocks are cut. The palazzo houses the National Picture Gallery with a large collection of the school of Ferrara. The Casa Romei is the best preserved Renaissance building in Ferrara. It was the residence of Giovanni Romei, related to Este family by marriage. It did not fall into decay because it was inherited by the nuns of the Corpus Domini order who lived there without making any changes to its structure. Much of the
decoration in the inner rooms has been saved. The Corpus Domini Monastery contains tombs of the House of Este.

Journey with us over the valleys, beaches and terracotta-roofed houses of Italy. Italy is home to some of the worlds’ most historically beautiful landmarks. Whether wandering around the ancient temples and coliseums of Rome, or the cathedrals and palazzos of Tuscany and Venice, the visitor has something to marvel at. Riding gondolas, sharing a glass of Italian wine, sampling pizzas and gelato, gawking at old bell-towers or relaxing on beaches is part of the Italian tourist’s fair. Take a look at Italy from the viewpoint of a DJI unmanned camera drone, delivering some of the most stunning footage of a beautiful country.
Italy is as old as history itself. The long-stablished home of western civilisation, Italy was once territory to various Etruscan and Grecian villages. A particular branch of Etruscans around the region of modern day Rome grew in prominence, both militarily and economically, and formed the Roman Republic. The Republic, later becoming the Roman Empire, still remains one of the greatest civilisations to have graced the planet. After the fall of the Roman Empire, largely as a result of Rome’s overexpansion, a number of barbarian tribes moved into Italy generating a patchwork of little states. These states were, throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, constantly in a state of inconsistent flux. The Renaissance marked great developments in art, science and religion, and also signalled much foreign political involvement from both the French and the Spanish. Only by the 19th century was Italy capable of evolving into a single state, and after the two horrific wars of the 20th century it was able to become the European power that it is considered today.
Visiting Italy means, quite simply, visiting Rome too. There are too many landmarks and places of interest to mention. The Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Piazza Navona, the Roman Forum, Vatican City, Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, and the list goes on. But when in Rome, do like the Romans and head to Campo de’ Fiori for a fun night on the town, or look for a small quiet Italian bistro in which to share a pizza. Head to the Piazza de Spagna for some retail-therapy in Italy’s famous designer stores, or ride a bike through Rome’s historic streets. In Rome you will never find boredom.
But Rome isn’t always the hottest location in Italy, because Venice often shows its colours. One of Europe’s most romantic cities, Venice is a maze of small alleys and canals on which every visitor will float on gondolas or relax in historical piazzas. No visit is complete without visiting the Doge’s Palace and Saint Mark’s Basilica. With some spare time on hand visit the Venice Jazz Club or the famous Opera House, or just order some gelato and sit on the steps along the Grand Canal.
No trip to Italy is complete without visiting the iconic Tuscan region. From the little villages, to the vineyards and country cellars, an authentic Italian experience is available for everyone. Florence is a city packed with renaissance history, while the city of Pisa is the place you want to go to visit… you guessed it, the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Siena is probably the quintessential Tuscan hilltop village (in this case it is now considered a city), and everyone should experience wondering around its streets.
Italy is as beautiful as it is old, and often it is deemed beautiful because it is so old. Whether relaxing in a piazza, visiting a cathedral or shopping on cobbled streets, Italy is a historic wonder. Witnessing this amazing location from an interesting perspective with View from Above allows the viewer to truly respect Italy as one of the flowers of Europe.

Le operazioni, cui hanno partecipato nel corso della settimana oltre 30 finanzieri e hanno visto la collaborazione di 4 ispettori della Direzione Territoriale del Lavoro di Ferrara, hanno condotto all’identificazione di una trentina di lavoratori cinesi e dei loro datori di lavoro.
Fra i 9 dipendenti in nero, 6 sono risultati sprovvisti dei permessi di soggiorno, motivo per il quale i rispettivi datori di lavoro, tutti cittadini cinesi, sono stati denunciati per lo sfruttamento di manodopera irregolare e favoreggiamento dell’immigrazione clandestina.
Per tre dei cinque laboratori controllati è scattata anche la sospensione immediata dell’attività, perché oltre il 20% dei lavoratori dichiarati e presenti, non risultava in regola con le norme sul lavoro.
Dai primi accertamenti svolti è risultato che una delle aziende non ha mai presentato le dichiarazioni dei redditi e dell’Iva, omettendo di versare all’erario diverse decine di migliaia di euro mentre altre non risultano versare alcuna imposta pur presentando formali dichiarazioni: in questo caso il debito
ammonta a oltre 100 mila euro per azienda.
Le Fiamme Gialle stanno ricostruendo anche i numerosi passaggi di proprietà che hanno coinvolto le cinque imprese controllate ed altre collegate (perché gestite da familiari) per verificare se tali cessioni non siano state mere operazioni realizzate al solo scopo di evadere le imposte attraverso meccanismi fraudolenti. Ulteriori accertamenti sono in corso anche per verificare le condizioni di lavoro ai quali gli imprenditori sottoponevano i dipendenti. (15.10.16)
