While in Texas getting caught up on dental appointments and doctor visits, the unexpected return of an ugly cancer has us scrambling for answers. In the meantime we visit with family and friends and Jack & Anna also take their drivers test and finally get their driver’s license. Ben, Tambi, and Molly are a family of 3 that sail the Bahamas aboard their Endeavour 32 sailboat.
It hasn't always been that way though... far from it.
Before they became sailors, they were living the traditional American life. 9-5 jobs, 2 nice cars, a hefty mortgage - and 1 out of every 52 weeks... there was a vacation.
Things changed though, when Ben had the realization that every day felt exactly like the previous one. It was just like that movie "Groundhog Day"... Wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch TV, go to sleep, repeat, repeat, repeat.
Time to shake things up! The Clardy family always did enjoy their temporary getaways to the islands when they would go on cruises. They loved the tropical climate, the clear water, the white sand, the palm trees. They wanted more of THAT, but how?
A sailboat, THAT’S how!
It was that idea that spurred this family to break out of their rut and go on a grand adventure to tropical destinations over the horizon.
Do they know anything about sailing? ...nope.
Did they inherit a boat load of money? ...definitely not.
Minor details, BECAUSE...
So far they’ve sold everything, moved out of their house, purchased a 38 year old sailboat, toured 1000 miles of Intracoastal Waterway, and experienced an unforgettable 6 month sailing adventure through the islands of the Bahamas.
So, what’s next for this intrepid trio?
Whatever happens - the cameras will be rolling and their salty adventures will be recorded so that you can share the experience as their Story unfolds.

Today its an early start for the journey from Burnham Marina on the river Crouch, northwards to the Blackwater and Bradwell Marina.
Most people when they make this journey head well off shore to the Whitacker beacon, cut through the Swin Spitway then head back westwards and in shore.
This time however we take the inshore route, through the Ray channel. It turned out to be a great sail.... this is what happened

Plans are moving ahead.. but the boat buying is proving more difficult (and more expensive) than we ever thought. We've looked seriously at two boats, surveyed one and now we've just made an offer on a third. Woody has travelled all over to inspect potential boats but I get the feeling it isn't as difficult as he makes out judging by the videos he's been sending back! The season is in full flow now in the Mediterranean and if we don't find one soon the summer will be over and the kids will be back at school.. and our plans will have to be put on hold.. yet again!

Sail
A sail is a catchment device designed to receive and redirect a force upon a generous surface area. Traditionally, the surface was engineered of woven fabric and supported by a mast, whose purpose is to propel a sailing vessel. Sails may be configured in many ways to include traditionally understood maritime purposes, as well as land vehicles and solar collection purposes. The rich encyclopedic history of maritime sails suggests alternative uses of the technology well documented.
History of sails
Archaeological studies of the Cucuteni-Trypillian culture ceramics show use of sailing boats from the sixth millennium onwards. Excavations of the Ubaid period (c. 6000 -4300 BC) in Mesopotamia provides direct evidence of sailing boats. Sails from ancient Egypt are depicted around 3200 BCE, where reed boats sailed upstream against the River Nile's current. Ancient Sumerians used square rigged sailing boats at about the same time, and it is believed they established sea trading routes as far away as the Indus valley. The proto-Austronesian words for sail, lay(r), and other rigging parts date to about 3000 BCE when this group began their Pacific expansion.Greeks and Phoenicians began trading by ship by around 1,200 BCE.

Family Π
Family Π is a group of New Testament manuscripts. Belonging to the Byzantine text-type, it is one of the textual families of this group. The name of the family, "Π" (pronounced in English as "pie"), is drawn from the symbol used for the Codex Petropolitanus. One of the most distinct of the Byzantine sub-groups, it is very old and the third largest. The oldest Byzantine manuscripts belong to this family.
Hermann von Soden designated this group by the symbol "Ka". According to him, its text is not purely Byzantine.
Codices and manuscripts
Soden included the following in this group of codices: Cyprius (K), Petropolitanus (Π), 72, 114, 116, 178, 265, 389, 1008, 1009, 1079, 1154, 1200, 1219, 1346, and 1398. Lake added to this group of manuscripts: 489, 537, 652, 775, 796, 904, 1478, 1500, 1546, 1561, 1781, 1816. Soden also associated Codex Alexandrinus with this group. Wisse lists about 150 witnesses of the family, but the majority of them belong to this family only in some parts of their text. The Peshitta, in the Gospels, represents this family.

Today its an early start for the journey from Burnham Marina on the river Crouch, northwards to the Blackwater and Bradwell Marina. Most people when they make this journey head well off shore to the Whitacker beacon, cut through the Swin Spitway then head back westwards and in shore. This time however we take the inshore route, through the Ray channel. Plans are moving ahead.. but the boat buying is proving more difficult (and more expensive) than we ever thought. We've looked seriously at two boats, surveyed one and now we've just made an offer on a third. Ben, Tambi, and Molly are a family of 3 that sail the Bahamas aboard their Endeavour 32 sailboat.
It hasn't always been that way though... far from it.

Ben, Tambi, and Molly are a family of 3 that sail the Bahamas aboard their Endeavour 32 sailboat.
It hasn't always been that way though... far from it.
Before they became sailors, they were living the traditional American life. 9-5 jobs, 2 nice cars, a hefty mortgage - and 1 out of every 52 weeks... there was a vacation.
Things changed though, when Ben had the realization that every day felt exactly like the previous one. It was just like that movie "Groundhog Day"... Wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch TV, go to sleep, repeat, repeat, repeat.
Time to shake things up! The Clardy family always did enjoy their temporary getaways to the islands when they would go on cruises. They loved the tropical climate, the clear water, the white sand, the palm trees. They wanted more of THAT, but how?
A sailboat, THAT’S how!
It was that idea that spurred this family to break out of their rut and go on a grand adventure to tropical destinations over the horizon.
Do they know anything about sailing? ...nope.
Did they inherit a boat load of money? ...definitely not.
Minor details, BECAUSE...
So far they’ve sold everything, moved out of their house, purchased a 38 year old sailboat, toured 1000 miles of Intracoastal Waterway, and experienced an unforgettable 6 month sailing adventure through the islands of the Bahamas.
So, what’s next for this intrepid trio?
Whatever happens - the cameras will be rolling and their salty adventures will be recorded so that you can share the experience as their Story unfolds.

Today its an early start for the journey from Burnham Marina on the river Crouch, northwards to the Blackwater and Bradwell Marina.
Most people when they make this journey head well off shore to the Whitacker beacon, cut through the Swin Spitway then head back westwards and in shore.
This time however we take the inshore route, through the Ray channel. It turned out to be a great sail.... this is what happened

Plans are moving ahead.. but the boat buying is proving more difficult (and more expensive) than we ever thought. We've looked seriously at two boats, surveyed one and now we've just made an offer on a third. Woody has travelled all over to inspect potential boats but I get the feeling it isn't as difficult as he makes out judging by the videos he's been sending back! The season is in full flow now in the Mediterranean and if we don't find one soon the summer will be over and the kids will be back at school.. and our plans will have to be put on hold.. yet again!

For me, sometimes extreme boredom, frustration with the motion of the boat, feeling isolated/alone, and missing friends and family bucket loads can lead to a little bit of a breakdown every now and then. I’m only human! There are always dramas onboard (EVERYONE has them), weather it be physical or mental. When La Vagabonde has been rocking and rolling back and forth for 4 days straight, and I’ve been copping bruises from the furniture and hoping for the slightest break in the weather that never comes, a boiling pot of water being thrown at me you could say was my last straw. The good times always end up evening out with the bad, but the unpredictability of each day can be stressful and has been since day 1. One day can be the best day of my life, filled with aqua blue waters, smooth sails, palm trees and sunshine, and the next can be the worst….. no sleep for a few days, breaking expensive equipment, haven’t showered or eaten and I’m questioning what on earth I’m doing trying to sail around the world having no sailing experience. But in the end, it’s all worth it for me. I love every minute of it, what we have seen and done around the world with Riley on La Vagabonde. But holey tolitos sometimes it can be tough! Ben, Tambi, and Molly are a family of 3 that sail the Bahamas aboard their Endeavour 32 sailboat.
It hasn't always been that way though... far from it.
Before they became sailors, they were living the traditional American life. 9-5 jobs, 2 nice cars, a hefty mortgage - and 1 out of every 52 weeks... there was a vacation.
Things changed though, when Ben had the realization that every day felt exactly like the previous one. It was just like that movie "Groundhog Day"... Wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch TV, go to sleep, repeat, repeat, repeat.
Time to shake things up! The Clardy family always did enjoy their temporary getaways to the islands when they would go on cruises. They loved the tropical climate, the clear water, the white sand, the palm trees. They wanted more of THAT, but how?
A sailboat, THAT’S how!
It was that idea that spurred this family to break out of their rut and go on a grand adventure to tropical destinations over the horizon.
Do they know anything about sailing? ...nope.
Did they inherit a boat load of money? ...definitely not.
Minor details, BECAUSE...
So far they’ve sold everything, moved out of their house, purchased a 38 year old sailboat, toured 1000 miles of Intracoastal Waterway, and experienced an unforgettable 6 month sailing adventure through the islands of the Bahamas.
So, what’s next for this intrepid trio?
Whatever happens - the cameras will be rolling and their salty adventures will be recorded so that you can share the experience as their Story unfolds.

Today its an early start for the journey from Burnham Marina on the river Crouch, northwards to the Blackwater and Bradwell Marina.
Most people when they make this journey head well off shore to the Whitacker beacon, cut through the Swin Spitway then head back westwards and in shore.
This time however we take the inshore route, through the Ray channel. It turned out to be a great sail.... this is what happened

Plans are moving ahead.. but the boat buying is proving more difficult (and more expensive) than we ever thought. We've looked seriously at two boats, surveyed one and now we've just made an offer on a third. Woody has travelled all over to inspect potential boats but I get the feeling it isn't as difficult as he makes out judging by the videos he's been sending back! The season is in full flow now in the Mediterranean and if we don't find one soon the summer will be over and the kids will be back at school.. and our plans will have to be put on hold.. yet again!

For me, sometimes extreme boredom, frustration with the motion of the boat, feeling isolated/alone, and missing friends and family bucket loads can lead to a little bit of a breakdown every now and then. I’m only human! There are always dramas onboard (EVERYONE has them), weather it be physical or mental. When La Vagabonde has been rocking and rolling back and forth for 4 days straight, and I’ve been copping bruises from the furniture and hoping for the slightest break in the weather that never comes, a boiling pot of water being thrown at me you could say was my last straw. The good times always end up evening out with the bad, but the unpredictability of each day can be stressful and has been since day 1. One day can be the best day of my life, filled with aqua blue waters, smooth sails, palm trees and sunshine, and the next can be the worst….. no sleep for a few days, breaking expensive equipment, haven’t showered or eaten and I’m questioning what on earth I’m doing trying to sail around the world having no sailing experience. But in the end, it’s all worth it for me. I love every minute of it, what we have seen and done around the world with Riley on La Vagabonde. But holey tolitos sometimes it can be tough! Sail
A sail is a catchment device designed to receive and redirect a force upon a generous surface area. Traditionally, the surface was engineered of woven fabric and supported by a mast, whose purpose is to propel a sailing vessel. Sails may be configured in many ways to include traditionally understood maritime purposes, as well as land vehicles and solar collection purposes. The rich encyclopedic history of maritime sails suggests alternative uses of the technology well documented.
History of sails
Archaeological studies of the Cucuteni-Trypillian culture ceramics show use of sailing boats from the sixth millennium onwards. Excavations of the Ubaid period (c. 6000 -4300 BC) in Mesopotamia provides direct evidence of sailing boats. Sails from ancient Egypt are depicted around 3200 BCE, where reed boats sailed upstream against the River Nile's current. Ancient Sumerians used square rigged sailing boats at about the same time, and it is believed they established sea trading routes as far away as the Indus valley. The proto-Austronesian words for sail, lay(r), and other rigging parts date to about 3000 BCE when this group began their Pacific expansion.Greeks and Phoenicians began trading by ship by around 1,200 BCE.
