The Marshall Tucker Band is an American Southern rock/country rock band originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina. The band's blend of rock, rhythm and blues, jazz, country, and gospel helped establish the Southern rock genre in the early 1970s. While the band had reached the height of its commercial success by the end of the decade, the band has recorded and performed continuously under various lineups for nearly 40 years.
The original lineup of the Marshall Tucker Band, formed in 1972, included lead guitarist, vocalist, and primary songwriter Toy Caldwell (1947–1993), lead vocalist Doug Gray (born 1948), keyboard player, saxophone player, and flautist Jerry Eubanks (born 1950), rhythm guitarist George McCorkle (1946–2007), drummer Paul Riddle (born 1953), and bassist Tommy Caldwell (1949–1980). They signed with Capricorn Records and in 1973 released their first LP, The Marshall Tucker Band.
After Tommy Caldwell was killed in an automobile accident in 1980, he was replaced by bassist Franklin Wilkie. Most of the original band members had left by the mid-1980s to pursue other projects. The band's current lineup consists of Gray on vocals, keyboard player and flautist Marcus James Henderson, guitarist Rick Willis, bassist Pat Elwood, and drummer B.B. Borden.
Ramblin' Man may refer to:
"Ramblin' Rose" is a 1962 popular song written by brothers Noel Sherman and Joe Sherman and popularized by Nat King Cole.
Cole's recording of the song was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 4804. It reached number two on both the Billboard and Cash Box charts and sold over a million copies as a single. In 1962 the song spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Easy Listening chart and the Australian charts, while on the R&B chart, the song reached number seven. It was released as a single from Cole's album of the same name, which also was a million seller. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Record of the Year.
The song has been covered by many artists, particularly country music artists.
There are four country versions of the song. Sonny James recorded the song first in July 1968 and released it five years later on the album The Gentleman from the South in 1973.Johnny Lee's version reached number 37 on the Billboard country chart in 1977. The following year, singer Hank Snow's version charted at number 93. In 1978, Johnny Rodriguez released a cover of the song on the album Love Me with All Your Heart.
Randolph Denard Ornette Coleman (March 9, 1930 – June 11, 2015) was an American jazz saxophonist, violinist, trumpeter and composer. He was one of the major innovators of the free jazz movement of the 1960s, a term he invented with the name of an album. Coleman's timbre was easily recognized: his keening, crying sound drew heavily on blues music. He was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 1994. His album Sound Grammar received the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for music.
Coleman was born in 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was also raised. He attended I.M. Terrell High School, where he participated in band until he was dismissed for improvising during "The Washington Post." He began performing R&B and bebop initially on tenor saxophone, and started a band, the Jam Jivers, with some fellow students including Prince Lasha and Charles Moffett. Seeking a way to work his way out of his home town, he took a job in 1949 with a Silas Green from New Orleans traveling show and then with touring rhythm and blues shows. After a show in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he was assaulted and his saxophone was destroyed.

Carolina Dreams marks a retreat from the more pronounced country leanings of Long Hard Ride to the more successful country-tinged pop-rock of "Heard It In a Love Song" and "Fly Like an Eagle." They gathered more hits with this approach, and although the hits hold up well, the rest of the album doesn't live up to their quality. 1. 00:00 Fly Like An Eagle 3:03 2. 03:03 Heard It In A Love Song 4:58 3. 08:01 I Should Have Never Started Lovin' You 7:10 4. 15:11 Life In A Song 3:35 5. 18:46 Desert Skies 6:24 6. 25:10 Never Trust A Stranger 5:28 7. 30:38 Tell It To The Devil 6:50 8. 37:28 Silverado (Live) 4:29 Carolina Dreams, released in 1977, was The Marshall Tucker Band's sixth album and an ode to the band's home state, South Carolina, USA. Intimate interview with Toy Caldwell, founding member of the Marshall Tucker Band, on the Bobby Bare and Friends show about 1985. I do not own this video but I believe Toy's fans would love seeing it! Last part of the interview is with Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie.
What a great interview with Doug Gray from The Marshall Tucker Band. They put on a great show last night at Dosey Doe!
In clips from the documentary "Which One Is Marshall Tucker," guitarist George McCorkle talks about the band, its name and life in the group.
Doug Gray, founding member of the Marshall Tucker Band and their Lead Singer, talks about his current tour, his Vietnam Days, the early days of the band and unknown band and personal facts never disclosed before with WGHT Radio's Jimmy Howes & Greta Latona.
This is from an old cassette, I used to record everything MTB did on our local rock AM station, WORD 91. Every album would have a hometown preview on the radio. In 1980, Toy Caldwell and Paul T. Riddle were in the studio with BILLY MAC to preview TENTH. Sadly, my cassette ended part way through, so we only got about 3/4 of the interview. Still, ain't it great to hear Toy's laugh again? I have some other stuff if I can find it. This goes out in loving memory of Toy, Tommy and George. Together forever.

The Marshall Tucker Band- Take the Highway- Live 1973 with Toy Caldwell
Forty miles of Abeline
Roll on pass to New Orleans
Got no cash, got no care
Hurricane in Jackson Square
San Antonio rocky point
Ramblin’ from joint to joint
California’s shaky ground
The devil wind is blowing down
An open road for a hundred miles
Driving fast with three flat tyres
The days are long and the nights are cold
Ramble down a lonesome road
San Antonio rocky point
Ramblin’ from joint to joint
From Illinois to Arlington
Frozen to the Gulf Coast
Mobile down to Mexico
Kansas City, Tupelo
Oklahoma, El Paso
Got a guitar painted black
Ain’t no way you’re turning back
Took the fire from the flame
You can’t stop the moving train
The days are long and the nights are cold
Ramble down a lonesome road
Forty miles of Abeline
Roll on pass to New Orleans
Got no cash, got no care
There’s a hurricane in Jackson Square
The days are long and the nights are cold
Ramble down a lonesome road
San Antonio rocky point
