When it comes to sex and relationships - what are you dik about?
‘’Are You Dik?’’ is an adult comedy about sex, monogamy, love, lust, everything in between and beyond.
Actors Coco Merckel and Esmeralda Bihl and director Robert Colman have catapulted the 19th Century classic ‘’La Ronde’’ - a timeless story about the mysteries and challenges of intimacy - into 21st Century South Africa.
Coco Merckel and Esmeralda Bihl masterfully create 20 different characters in a series of hilarious and poignant situations, like the taxi driver and the prostitute, the hairdresser and the ‘ben-ten’ (teenage boy), the actress and poet – and many more.
While ‘’Are You Dik?’’ presents the lighter side of sex and the pursuit of love it also asks serious questions about 21st Century morality, specifically South African morality.
How do we, as South Africans, draw the line on what is normal and acceptable in our society? The news is never short on stories of the extreme sexual violence we almost immune to.
Where does abuse begin and end? Are young girls and boys with sugar daddies and mommies making informed choices? What does it take to be faithful to one partner? How and when do we say: I am dik!
When ‘’La Ronde’’ was written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1897 it was considered scandalous, intended ‘’for private circulation only’’ and banned numerous times. A lot has changed since then. We live in times when no one is easily shocked, anything goes and society calls for moral regeneration.
“Are You Dik?” looks at what has and hasn’t changed - how love and lust can trip us all up. And asks the timeless question: Oops what happened last night?

Fur Fighters
Fur Fighters is a video game developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Acclaim for the Dreamcast in 2000, then later for Microsoft Windows. The game was designed very much as a standard third-person shooter, but used a world populated by cute little animals as its setting. As a result, the game's depiction of violence is very cartoon-like without losing any of its intensity. In 2001, an updated version for the PlayStation 2 was released as Fur Fighters: Viggo's Revenge. Esmeralda (1915 film)
Esmeralda (1915) is a silent film starring Mary Pickford, directed by James Kirkwood, and produced by Adolph Zukor and stage impresario Daniel Frohman.
As with the previous Pickford vehicles Caprice, Mistress Nell and The Dawn of a Tomorrow, Esmeralda is based on a short story and stage play Esmeralda written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and William Gillette and produced in the 1880s. The play was acted by Annie Russell and later Viola Allen both teenagers at the time, who later became well known adult theater actresses.

" Esmeralda is a new kind of Mary Pickford picture. The story begins on the farm and swings around to the big city. From the simple and wholesome country girl "Esmeralda" becomes a veteran society leader. One of the big features of "Esmeralda" is the interrupted wedding ceremony in which Little Mary refuses to marry the count. It is a real Pickford scene and worth as much as many entire pictures."

When it comes to sex and relationships - what are you dik about?
‘’Are You Dik?’’ is an adult comedy about sex, monogamy, love, lust, everything in between and beyond.
Actors Coco Merckel and Esmeralda Bihl and director Robert Colman have catapulted the 19th Century classic ‘’La Ronde’’ - a timeless story about the mysteries and challenges of intimacy - into 21st Century South Africa.
Coco Merckel and Esmeralda Bihl masterfully create 20 different characters in a series of hilarious and poignant situations, like the taxi driver and the prostitute, the hairdresser and the ‘ben-ten’ (teenage boy), the actress and poet – and many more.
While ‘’Are You Dik?’’ presents the lighter side of sex and the pursuit of love it also asks serious questions about 21st Century morality, specifically South African morality.
How do we, as South Africans, draw the line on what is normal and acceptable in our society? The news is never short on stories of the extreme sexual violence we almost immune to.
Where does abuse begin and end? Are young girls and boys with sugar daddies and mommies making informed choices? What does it take to be faithful to one partner? How and when do we say: I am dik!
When ‘’La Ronde’’ was written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1897 it was considered scandalous, intended ‘’for private circulation only’’ and banned numerous times. A lot has changed since then. We live in times when no one is easily shocked, anything goes and society calls for moral regeneration.
“Are You Dik?” looks at what has and hasn’t changed - how love and lust can trip us all up. And asks the timeless question: Oops what happened last night?
