It` s time for another "versus" video. Some of you told me that I should compare the Boeing 777 with the Airbus A340. Took me some time to sum up the best clips of the B777 and A340 in my video collection.
The Boeing 777 hat its maiden flight in 1994. Since 1994 Boeing deliverd 1300 Boeing777`s. In comparison to that the Airbus A340 had its first flight in 1991. The A340 wasn` t as succesful as the Boeing 777 cause they only delivered 377 A340` s between 1991 and 2011. If I am honest I was extremly surprised because I thought Airbus delivered much more A340`s.

Auf dem Weg von Zürich nach Shanghai wurde während des Fluges eine erhöhte Öl Temperatur in Triebwerk Nummer 3 festgestellt. Der Flug musste abgebrochen werden, eine Sicherheitslandung war nötig. Anschließend wurde der Flug mit einem anderen Flugzeug fortgesetzt. Das Video zeigt die vorgehensweise der Piloten in einer Ausnahmesituation, bis zur Landung.

On the way from Zurich to Shanghai during the flight was an increased oil temperature found in engine 3. The flight had to be canceled, a landing was necessary. Then the flight was continued with a new plane. The video shows the entire approach to the landing, in an exceptional situation.

Due to ongoing treaty negotiations the alternative route is -south of Russian airspace-- over Romania, Georgia and Kazakhstan to China.

Flight Captain and Fleet Manager Thomas Frick tells the unique story of the eggtimer, built into every SWISS Cockpit.
Anyone wanting explanations first hand can "tune into" the comments-track by the captain.
•In a ski-lift over the roofs of Shanghai
You only see something like this once in a lifetime -- at EXPO 2011. Next they visit the highest visitor platform in the world (1555ft) at the "World Financial Center". And end the day by dining in one of the best restaurants in Shanghai --run by a Swiss manager-- T8.

Finally managed to get myself onboard the daily Iberia A340 flight between Madrid and London! I tried a few years back and missed it due to fog. No sign of fog this day, lovely clear skies warm day at both ends. Sat in row 5 on the Iberia A340 is the first row in economy, which was perfect seat for filming. Just in front of the engines. Must say I don't think much of Iberia's A340's on the inside though. No seat back TV's and no complimentary drinks or snacks like on their codeshare partner British Airways. Considering the aircraft is used on 12 hour flights to Latin America and there is no TV's I certainly wouldn't be choosing them for a longhaul flight. But for a 2 hour hop I could manage. Some incredible views all the way up to London of northern Spain and the French coast. Then over the Isle Of Wight and southern England then over Central London for our approach into RWY27R. Very smooth main gear touchdown but the nose gear came down with one hell of bump! A surprisingly busy flight couldn't see any empty seats. And a very long 45 second Take Off roll! Quite a turbulent climb to start with as well, made for some great action during the initial climb out.

The Airbus A340 is a long-range four-engine wide-body commercial passenger jet airliner. Developed by Airbus Industrie, a consortium of European aerospace companies, which is now fully owned by EADS, the A340 was assembled at Toulouse, France. It seats up to 375 passengers in the standard variants and 440 in the stretched −600 series. Depending on the model, it has a range of between 6,700 to 9,000 nautical miles (12,400 to 17,000 km). It is similar in design to the twin-engined A330 with which it was concurrently designed. Its distinguishing features are four high-bypass turbofan engines and three-bogie main landing gear.
Airbus manufactured the A340 in four fuselage lengths. The initial variant, A340-300, which entered service in 1993, measured 59.39 metres (194.8 ft). The shorter −200 was developed next, and the A340-600 was a 15.91 metres (52.2 ft) stretch of the −200. The -600 was developed alongside the shorter A340-500, which would become the longest-ranged commercial airliner until the arrival of the Boeing 777-200LR. The two initial models were powered by the CFM56-5C, rated at 151 kilonewtons (34,000 lbf), while Rolls-Royce held exclusive powerplant rights to the extended-ranged and heavier −500 and −600 models, through the 267-kilonewton (60,000 lbf) Rolls-Royce Trent 500. Initial A340 versions share the fuselage and wing of the A330 while the −500/-600 models are longer and have larger wings.

It` s time for another "versus" video. Some of you told me that I should compare the Boeing 777 with the Airbus A340. Took me some time to sum up the best clips of the B777 and A340 in my video collection.
The Boeing 777 hat its maiden flight in 1994. Since 1994 Boeing deliverd 1300 Boeing777`s. In comparison to that the Airbus A340 had its first flight in 1991. The A340 wasn` t as succesful as the Boeing 777 cause they only delivered 377 A340` s between 1991 and 2011. If I am honest I was extremly surprised because I thought Airbus delivered much more A340`s.

Finally managed to get myself onboard the daily Iberia A340 flight between Madrid and London! I tried a few years back and missed it due to fog. No sign of fog this day, lovely clear skies warm day at both ends. Sat in row 5 on the Iberia A340 is the first row in economy, which was perfect seat for filming. Just in front of the engines. Must say I don't think much of Iberia's A340's on the inside though. No seat back TV's and no complimentary drinks or snacks like on their codeshare partner British Airways. Considering the aircraft is used on 12 hour flights to Latin America and there is no TV's I certainly wouldn't be choosing them for a longhaul flight. But for a 2 hour hop I could manage. Some incredible views all the way up to London of northern Spain and the French coast. Then over the Isle Of Wight and southern England then over Central London for our approach into RWY27R. Very smooth main gear touchdown but the nose gear came down with one hell of bump! A surprisingly busy flight couldn't see any empty seats. And a very long 45 second Take Off roll! Quite a turbulent climb to start with as well, made for some great action during the initial climb out.
