This was our first trip to Poland and we dove into the capital headfirst. While our travels may have started in the charming Old Town, it wasn't long before we discovered that Warsaw has a cool artsy side. We visited bright neon museums in the art district, shopped in boutiques selling soviet-chic apparel, and got to experience the capital's legendary nightlife. It many ways it was a whirlwind visit, but it was also a fun introduction that made us curious to discover more of Poland in our future travels. The following video will highlight 25 things to do in Warsaw and give you a glimpse into this up and coming capital.

Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.

Warsaw is a large and sprawling city of more than 1.7 million people that is split into somewhat uneven halves by the Wisła (Vistula) River. Most everything of interest to visitors is on the western side of the river around the modern financial district. Its centrepiece is the landmark Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Socialist-Realist confection which can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city.
The epicentre of Warsaw for visitors is the so-called Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war and the royal gardens of Łazienki Park, before reaching Wilanów Palace to the south of the city centre.
Warsaw's striking Old Town may look like it dates back several centuries but the old gal has barely reached middle age. The painstakingly rebuilt area was awarded a listing on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980. Unmissable attractions in and around the Old Town include the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral and the Citadel. Farther afield, make sure you visit the Warsaw Rising Museum for the story of the courageous men and women who rose up against their occupiers in WWII as well as the Palace of Culture and Science for the views.
No surprising for a city that was essentially rebuilt from the ground up after WWII, Warsaw offers an inordinate amount of green space, with leafy parks where rowing boats cruise past outdoor cafés, during the summer, and free classical concerts attract crowds in a scene far removed from the dull Communist-era images of Warsaw. And don't miss the palaces and other historical and cultural buildings in the city's splendid Łazienki and Wilanów Parks.
Warsaw's nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe today, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across the city as well as a generous dose of more highbrow entertainment such as classical music concerts and opera. Whatever you do, don't leave town without sampling the tipple of choice here in these parts: wódka (vodka). It comes in a myriad of flavours and hues - from myśliwska (`hunter's vodka'), which tastes a bit like gin, and wiśniówka (flavoured with cherries) to pieprzówka (pepper) and the famous żubrówka ('bison vodka'), which is flavoured with grass and favoured by the beasties in Bialowieza National Park). Poles traditionally drank vodka neat -- never in cocktails.
The dining options have improved no end in Warsaw, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards. And Polish cuisine has also undergone some major transformations, lightening up old favourites with less fat and employing fresher ingredients.

It is perhaps one of the most comprehensive sites about Warsaw. Having been built by someone who lives in Warsaw, you get to see the city from ground level and learn what it is like to travel and live there.
But aside from the City's physical location, it enjoys a unique location within the Polish culture.
Poland is a country of regions with the people varying within each of the regions. And the regions fall into two general classifications often known as Poland A and Poland B. Warsaw could be called Poland C.
That is because not only is it the capital of Poland, it is also the Country's financial center and, as a matter of fact, the financial center for Eastern Europe. As such it has attracted young people from all over the country who are interested in pursuing careers that are not generally available in the outlying districts. And the heavy concentration of businesses, as well as the political activity, have resulted in the pace of life being much more rapid than in any of the cities in the Country.
The population is a mix of new and old cultures. Those who live in regions such as Kabaty, at the end of the Metro Line live in modern apartment complexes and tend to be young. Those who live in older districts such as Zoliborz live in buildings that were built after the war, but during the communist times, tend to be older. The lifestyles in both these districts, as well as other regions around Warsaw, differ significantly.
Warsaw arose from the rubble after the second world war. It is difficult to comprehend what the Polish people did to rebuild their city. Here is a link to a video that might help to put Warsaw and its people in perspective. History Of Warsaw

Today, Warsaw continues to rebuild. Many of the buildings that were erected after the war but during communist times are being torn down and replaced by modern structures.
Large shopping malls and shopping centers are located everywhere from the Centrum to the outlying districts. You can see videos about them in the Warsaw Poland Play list.
There are expensive and modern public transportation systems. In modern-day Warsaw, one does not need a car for everyday life.
At a for the tourist, there is more than enough to keep one busy. One can choose sightseeing in Warsaw's old town or spending one's time at one of the modern beer drinking holes or pubs.

Made in the immediate post-WWII era by famed filmmaker Julien Bryan, POLAND THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE shows the nation of Poland as it emerged from the war, with the nation digging itself out of the ruins of conflict and trying to re-establish itself. The film can in some ways be seen as an appeal to the American people and the West for assistance in assuring that the nation would be permitted to be free, after six long years of terrible struggle. Unfortunately the hopeful sentiments echoed in the narration would soon by crushed by the Communist party and Soviets.
The film is notable for showing many scenes of agriculture and commerce from before and after WWII, including shots of the Polish peasantry and their handicrafts, religious ceremonies, dancing, and more. Poland at this time was a life of many different cultures, including mountain people and groups with rich tradition, some of whom were eradicated during the German occupation. At the 8 minute mark, a group of Ukranians who lived in Poland -- one of many minorities in the nation -- are shown. The Jews, who were decimated by the persecutions of the German forces, are discussed at the 8:40 mark and following. As the narrator solemnly remarks at the 9:40 mark, few of the Jewish people seen in the film remained alive at the end of the war.
Gydnia, Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow, Danzig and other cities are seen in the film.
Julien Hequembourg Bryan (1899-1974) was an American photographer, filmmaker, and documentarian. He is best known for documenting the daily life in Poland, Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany between 1935 and 1939. After fleeing Poland in 1939, he returned to Poland in 1946. As part of an official UNRRA delegation he revisited Gdańsk and Warsaw. His footage of recently destroyed Gdańsk, seen in this film, is probably the first post-war film shot in that city. Bryan was honored with „Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej" ("Merit for Polish culture") during his last visit in Poland (1974) for showing the truth about the Invasion of Poland.

Warsaw (Polish: Warszawa [varˈʂava]; see also other names) is the capital and largest city of Poland. It stands on the Vistula River in east-central Poland, roughly 260 kilometres (160 mi) from the Baltic Sea and 300 kilometres (190 mi) from the Carpathian Mountains. Poland (Polish: Polska [ˈpɔlska]), officially the Republic of Poland (Polish: Rzeczpospolita Polska,

The establishment of a Polish state can be traced back to 966, when Mieszko I, ruler of a territory roughly coextensive with that of present-day Poland, converted to Christianity. The Kingdom of Poland was founded in 1025, and in 1569 it cemented a longstanding political association with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by signing the Union of Lublin. This union formed the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, one of the largest and most populous countries of 16th and 17th-century Europe. The Commonwealth ceased to exist in the years 1772–1795, when its territory was partitioned among Prussia, the Russian Empire, and Austria. Poland regained its independence (as the Second Polish Republic) at the end of World War I, in 1918.

Unmissable attractions in and around the Old Town include the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral and the Citadel. Farther afield, make sure you visit the Warsaw Rising Museum for the story of the courageous men and women who rose up against their occupiers in WWII as well as the Palace of Culture and Science for the views. No surprising for a city that was essentially rebuilt from the ground up after WWII, Warsaw offers an inordinate amount of green space, with leafy parks where rowing boats cruise past outdoor cafés, during the summer, and free classical concerts attract crowds in a scene far removed from the dull Communist-era images of Warsaw. And don't miss the palaces and other historical and cultural buildings in the city's splendid Łazienki and Wilanów Parks. Warsaw's nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe today, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across the city as well as a generous dose of more highbrow entertainment such as classical music concerts and opera. Whatever you do, don't leave town without sampling the tipple of choice here in these parts: wódka (vodka). It comes in a myriad of flavours and hues - from myśliwska (`hunter's vodka'), which tastes a bit like gin, and wiśniówka (flavoured with cherries) to pieprzówka (pepper) and the famous żubrówka ('bison vodka'), which is flavoured with grass and favoured by the beasties in Bialowieza National Park). Poles traditionally drank vodka neat -- never in cocktails. The dining options have improved no end in Warsaw, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards. And the regions fall into two general classifications often known as Poland A and Poland B. Warsaw could be called Poland C. That is because not only is it the capital of Poland, it is also the Country's financial center and, as a matter of fact, the financial center for Eastern Europe. As such it has attracted young people from all over the country who are interested in pursuing careers that are not generally available in the outlying districts. And the heavy concentration of businesses, as well as the political activity, have resulted in the pace of life being much more rapid than in any of the cities in the Country. The population is a mix of new and old cultures. Those who live in regions such as Kabaty, at the end of the Metro Line live in modern apartment complexes and tend to be young. Those who live in older districts such as Zoliborz live in buildings that were built after the war, but during the communist times, tend to be older. The lifestyles in both these districts, as well as other regions around Warsaw, differ significantly. Warsaw arose from the rubble after the second world war. It is difficult to comprehend what the Polish people did to rebuild their city. Here is a link to a video that might help to put Warsaw and its people in perspective. History Of Warsaw There is much more on the rebuilding of Warsaw at the Museum of the Warsaw Uprising. Today, Warsaw continues to rebuild. Many of the buildings that were erected after the war but during communist times are being torn down and replaced by modern structures. Large shopping malls and shopping centers are located everywhere from the Centrum to the outlying districts. You can see videos about them in the Warsaw Poland Play list. There are expensive and modern public transportation systems. In modern-day Warsaw, one does not need a car for everyday life. At a for the tourist, there is more than enough to keep one busy. One can choose sightseeing in Warsaw's old town or spending one's time at one of the modern beer drinking holes or pubs. -

Made in the immediate post-WWII era by famed filmmaker Julien Bryan, POLAND THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE shows the nation of Poland as it emerged from the war, with the nation digging itself out of the ruins of conflict and trying to re-establish itself. The film can in some ways be seen as an appeal to the American people and the West for assistance in assuring that the nation would be permitted to be free, after six long years of terrible struggle. Unfortunately the hopeful sentiments echoed in the narration would soon by crushed by the Communist party and Soviets. The film is notable for showing many scenes of agriculture and commerce from before and after WWII, including shots of the Polish peasantry and their handicrafts, religious ceremonies, dancing, and more. Poland at this time was a life of many different cultures, including mountain people and groups with rich tradition, some of whom were eradicated during the German occupation. At the 8 minute mark, a group of Ukranians who lived in Poland -- one of many minorities in the nation -- are shown. The Jews, who were decimated by the persecutions of the German forces, are discussed at the 8:40 mark and following. As the narrator solemnly remarks at the 9:40 mark, few of the Jewish people seen in the film remained alive at the end of the war. Gydnia, Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow, Danzig and other cities are seen in the film. Julien Hequembourg Bryan (1899-1974) was an American photographer, filmmaker, and documentarian. He is best known for documenting the daily life in Poland, Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany between 1935 and 1939. After fleeing Poland in 1939, he returned to Poland in 1946. As part of an official UNRRA delegation he revisited Gdańsk and Warsaw. His footage of recently destroyed Gdańsk, seen in this film, is probably the first post-war film shot in that city. Bryan was honored with „Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej" ("Merit for Polish culture") during his last visit in Poland (1974) for showing the truth about the Invasion of Poland. Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.

Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.

Warsaw is a large and sprawling city of more than 1.7 million people that is split into somewhat uneven halves by the Wisła (Vistula) River. Most everything of interest to visitors is on the western side of the river around the modern financial district. Its centrepiece is the landmark Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Socialist-Realist confection which can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city.
The epicentre of Warsaw for visitors is the so-called Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war and the royal gardens of Łazienki Park, before reaching Wilanów Palace to the south of the city centre.
Warsaw's striking Old Town may look like it dates back several centuries but the old gal has barely reached middle age. The painstakingly rebuilt area was awarded a listing on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980. Unmissable attractions in and around the Old Town include the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral and the Citadel. Farther afield, make sure you visit the Warsaw Rising Museum for the story of the courageous men and women who rose up against their occupiers in WWII as well as the Palace of Culture and Science for the views.
No surprising for a city that was essentially rebuilt from the ground up after WWII, Warsaw offers an inordinate amount of green space, with leafy parks where rowing boats cruise past outdoor cafés, during the summer, and free classical concerts attract crowds in a scene far removed from the dull Communist-era images of Warsaw. And don't miss the palaces and other historical and cultural buildings in the city's splendid Łazienki and Wilanów Parks.
Warsaw's nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe today, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across the city as well as a generous dose of more highbrow entertainment such as classical music concerts and opera. Whatever you do, don't leave town without sampling the tipple of choice here in these parts: wódka (vodka). It comes in a myriad of flavours and hues - from myśliwska (`hunter's vodka'), which tastes a bit like gin, and wiśniówka (flavoured with cherries) to pieprzówka (pepper) and the famous żubrówka ('bison vodka'), which is flavoured with grass and favoured by the beasties in Bialowieza National Park). Poles traditionally drank vodka neat -- never in cocktails.
The dining options have improved no end in Warsaw, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards. And Polish cuisine has also undergone some major transformations, lightening up old favourites with less fat and employing fresher ingredients.

The population is a mix of new and old cultures. Those who live in regions such as Kabaty, at the end of the Metro Line live in modern apartment complexes and tend to be young. Those who live in older districts such as Zoliborz live in buildings that were built after the war, but during the communist times, tend to be older. The lifestyles in both these districts, as well as other regions around Warsaw, differ significantly.

Today, Warsaw continues to rebuild. Many of the buildings that were erected after the war but during communist times are being torn down and replaced by modern structures.

There are expensive and modern public transportation systems. In modern-day Warsaw, one does not need a car for everyday life.
At a for the tourist, there is more than enough to keep one busy. One can choose sightseeing in Warsaw's old town or spending one's time at one of the modern beer drinking holes or pubs.

Made in the immediate post-WWII era by famed filmmaker Julien Bryan, POLAND THE COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE shows the nation of Poland as it emerged from the war, with the nation digging itself out of the ruins of conflict and trying to re-establish itself. The film can in some ways be seen as an appeal to the American people and the West for assistance in assuring that the nation would be permitted to be free, after six long years of terrible struggle. Unfortunately the hopeful sentiments echoed in the narration would soon by crushed by the Communist party and Soviets.
The film is notable for showing many scenes of agriculture and commerce from before and after WWII, including shots of the Polish peasantry and their handicrafts, religious ceremonies, dancing, and more. Poland at this time was a life of many different cultures, including mountain people and groups with rich tradition, some of whom were eradicated during the German occupation. At the 8 minute mark, a group of Ukranians who lived in Poland -- one of many minorities in the nation -- are shown. The Jews, who were decimated by the persecutions of the German forces, are discussed at the 8:40 mark and following. As the narrator solemnly remarks at the 9:40 mark, few of the Jewish people seen in the film remained alive at the end of the war.
Gydnia, Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow, Danzig and other cities are seen in the film.
Julien Hequembourg Bryan (1899-1974) was an American photographer, filmmaker, and documentarian. He is best known for documenting the daily life in Poland, Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany between 1935 and 1939. After fleeing Poland in 1939, he returned to Poland in 1946. As part of an official UNRRA delegation he revisited Gdańsk and Warsaw. His footage of recently destroyed Gdańsk, seen in this film, is probably the first post-war film shot in that city. Bryan was honored with „Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej" ("Merit for Polish culture") during his last visit in Poland (1974) for showing the truth about the Invasion of Poland.

Julien Hequembourg Bryan (1899-1974) was an American photographer, filmmaker, and documentarian. He is best known for documenting the daily life in Poland, Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany between 1935 and 1939. After fleeing Poland in 1939, he returned to Poland in 1946. As part of an official UNRRA delegation he revisited Gdańsk and Warsaw. His footage of recently destroyed Gdańsk, seen in this film, is probably the first post-war film shot in that city. Bryan was honored with „Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej" ("Merit for Polish culture") during his last visit in Poland (1974) for showing the truth about the Invasion of Poland.

Warsaw University served as military barracks while education was mostly outlawed, but an underground “secret university” of more than 3000 students emerged.
The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews was once the infamous Warsaw ghetto, where over 400,000 were incarcerated in just less than one and a half square miles. Nearby, the Warsaw Uprising Monument and the Warsaw Rising Museum pay tribute to one of the bravest chapters of the city’s history.
Visit the Palace of Culture and Science, a gift to the Polish people from Stalin.
Stroll along the Royal Route, a path once used by Polish Kings, today a popular tourist walk, studded with historical sites.
Along Nowy Swiat Street, pass the monument to Polish astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus. Closer to the river is the Copernicus Science Centre.
See the heart of another of Warsaw’s famous sons, Fryderyk Chopin in the Holy Cross Church. His music floats through Lazienki Park, home to Lazienki Palace.
