Chappell is a city and county seat of Deuel County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 929 at the 2010 census.
Chappell was platted in 1884 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named for Charles Henry Chappell, a railroad official.
Chappell is located at 41°5′39″N 102°28′8″W / 41.09417°N 102.46889°W / 41.09417; -102.46889 (41.094095, -102.468848). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.70 square miles (1.81 km2), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010, there were 929 people, 412 households, and 257 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,327.1 inhabitants per square mile (512.4/km2). There were 484 housing units at an average density of 691.4 per square mile (267.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.0% White, 0.4% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population.
A gustnado is a specific type of short-lived, low-level rotating cloud that can form in a severe thunderstorm. The name is a portmanteau of "gust front tornado", as gustnadoes form due to non-tornadic cyclonic features in the downdraft from the gust (outflow) front of a strong thunderstorm, especially one which has become outflow dominated. It has little in common with tornadoes structurally in terms of vertical development, or in regard to intensity, longevity, and formative process (as classic tornadoes are associated with mesocyclones in the upflow of the storm, not the outflow).
The average gustnado lasts a few seconds to a few minutes, although there can be several generations and simultaneous swarms. Most have the winds of an F0 or F1 tornado (up to 180 km/h or 112 mph), and are commonly mistaken for tornadoes. However, unlike tornadoes, the rotating column of air in a gustnado usually does not extend all the way to the base of the thundercloud. Gustnadoes actually have more in common with whirlwinds (which include dust devils, whirlwinds that form due to superheated surface layers and stretched vorticity, most commonly on sunny, warm days with light winds). They are not considered true tornadoes (unless they connect the surface to the ambient cloud base) by most meteorologists and are not included in tornado statistics. Sometimes referred to as spin-up tornadoes, that term more correctly describes the rare tornadic gustnado that connects the surface to the ambient clouded base, or to relatively brief tornadoes associated with a mesovortex, as indicated by example of the April 3rd, 2011 powerful gustnado(s). The referenced NOAA damage summary in Topeka, KS, April 3rd indicated EF1-type damage such as, damaged power lines and snapped light pole, and split power pole (first hand account).
Kimball is a city and county seat of Kimball County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,496 at the 2010 census.
Kimball was originally called Antelopeville, and under the latter name was established in about 1870 when the Union Pacific Railroad was extended to that point. It was renamed in 1885 in honor of Thomas Kimball, a railroad official. Kimball was incorporated in 1888.
Kimball is located at 41°14′1″N 103°39′34″W / 41.23361°N 103.65944°W / 41.23361; -103.65944 (41.233693, -103.659463), in the southwestern Panhandle. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.07 square miles (5.36 km2), all of it land.
Kimball declares itself as the "The High Point of Nebraska!", as the highest point in the state is about 33 miles (53 km) from the city. Panorama Point, 5,424 feet (1,653 m) above sea level, is located at N 41 degrees 00.461 minutes, W 104 degrees 01.883 minutes. It is marked by a small monument. Kimball itself is not the Nebraska town with the highest elevation: that status belongs to Harrison, at 4,876 feet (1,486 m).
St. Louis (/seɪnt ˈluːɪs/ or /sənt ˈluːɪs/) is a city and port in the U.S. state of Missouri. The city developed along the western bank of the Mississippi River, which forms Missouri's border with Illinois. In 2010, St. Louis had a population of 319,294; a 2014 estimate put the population at 317,419, making it the 60th-most populous U.S. city and the second-largest city in the state in terms of city proper population. The St. Louis metropolitan area includes the city as well as nearby areas in Missouri and Illinois; with an estimated population of 2,905,893, it is the largest in Missouri and one of the largest in the United States. St. Louis was founded in 1764 by Pierre Laclède and Auguste Chouteau and named after Louis IX of France. Claimed first by the French, who settled mostly east of the Mississippi River, the region in which the city stands was ceded to Spain following France's defeat in the Seven Years' War. Its territory east of the Mississippi was ceded to the Kingdom of Great Britain, the victor. The area of present-day Missouri was part of Spanish Louisiana from 1762 until 1803.
The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot (192 m) monument in St. Louis in the U.S. state of Missouri. Clad in stainless steel and built in the form of an inverted, weighted catenary arch, it is the world's tallest arch, the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, and Missouri's tallest accessible building. Built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States, it is the centerpiece of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and has become an internationally famous symbol of St. Louis.
The arch sits at the site of St. Louis' founding on the west bank of the Mississippi River.
The Gateway Arch was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen in 1947; construction began on February 12, 1963, and was completed on October 28, 1965, for $13 million (equivalent to $180 million in 2013). The monument opened to the public on June 10, 1967.
Around late 1933, civic leader Luther Ely Smith, returning to St. Louis from the George Rogers National Historical Park in Vincennes, Indiana, saw the St. Louis riverfront area and envisioned that building a memorial there would both revive the riverfront and stimulate the economy. He communicated his idea to mayor Bernard Dickmann, who on December 15, 1933, raised it in a meeting with city leaders. They sanctioned the proposal, and the nonprofit Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Association (JNEMA—pronounced "Jenny May") was formed. Smith was appointed chairman and Dickmann vice chairman. The association's goal was to create:

At least two gustnadoes, which are similar to tornadoes, were sighted in Al Khor, Qatar, on November 23. This footage shows the dramatic funnel clouds by a roadside. Similar footage was captured by a construction site. The Peninsula and the Twitter account of the Qatar Meteorology Department reported that gustnados are low-level rotating funnel clouds that can form due to thunderstorm winds. Under the grass-covered hills along the Niobrara River in western Nebraska, sedimentary beds contain a rich concentration of 19-million-year-old fossils. Captain James Cook discovered the fossil beds in 1878 and acquired the site, called Agate Springs Ranch. Since then, fossil bones from the site have been exhibited around the world, and in 1965 the ranch became Agate Fossil Beds National Monument. I put the video for widescreen view because of the several panoramic shots so some photos have the top clipped off. These are just random explores and scenic shots from the past year. Mostly in 2015 although a few were taken several years ago.
