Macau (/məˈkaʊ/; 澳門; 澳门), also spelled Macao, officially the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, China. Macau is also bordered by the city of Zhuhai in Mainland China to the North and the Pearl River Estuary to the East and South. Hong Kong lies about 64 kilometers to its East across the Delta.[6] With an estimated population of around 652,500 living in an area of 30.5 km2 (11.8 sq mi), it is the most densely populated region in the world.
Macau was administered by the Portuguese Empire and its inheritor states from the mid-16th century until late 1999, when it was the last remaining European colony in Asia. Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 1550s. In 1557, Macau was rented to Portugal from Ming China as a trading port. The Portuguese Empire administered the city under Chinese authority and sovereignty until 1887, when Macau, through a mutual agreement between the two countries, became a colony. Sovereignty over Macau was transferred to China on 20 December 1999. The Joint Declaration on the Question of Macau and Macau Basic Law stipulate that Macau operate with a high degree of autonomy until at least 2049, fifty years after the transfer.
Under the policy of "one country, two systems", the State Council of the People's Republic of China is responsible for military defense and foreign affairs while Macau maintains its own legal system, public security force, monetary system, customs policy, and immigration policy. Macau participates in international organizations and events that do not require members to possess national sovereignty.

Macau participates in many international organizations and events that do not require members to possess national sovereignty.
According to The World Factbook, Macau has the second highest life expectancy in the world. In addition, Macau is one of the very few regions in Asia with a "very high Human Development Index", ranking 23rd or 24th in the world in 2007 (with Japan being the highest in Asia; the other Asian countries/regions within the "very high HDI" category are South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Brunei).

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in the Macao Special Administrative Region on Monday for a three-day inspection tour. This is his first visit to the region. Li said Macao is a land that has seen the successful practice of the "one country, two systems" principle. Visiting Chinese Olympians were honored at a gala celebration in Macau Special Administrative Region on Tuesday.
The event was held on Tuesday evening at the Macau East Asian Games Dome. It featured segments such as interviews and sports skills performances to allow Macau resident to get to know the athletes better. The audience also got to see a different side of athletes with some performing classic Chinese pop songs.
Members of the audience called the gala a unique experience, and praised the athletes for their efforts in Rio and their performances on stage.
The 64-member delegation, including 42 Rio Olympic gold medalists, coaches, and elite athletes, arrived in Macau on Monday afternoon for a four-day visit.
At the Rio Olympic Games, the Chinese delegation won 26 gold, 18 silver, and 26 bronze medals. Chinese athletes set five world records and 12 Olympic records, also winning the first gold medal for China in track cycling and first medal in golf. Special administrative regions of China
The special administrative regions (SAR; Portuguese: RAE) are autonomous territories that fall within the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China, yet do not form part of Mainland China. The legal basis for the establishment of SARs, unlike the administrative divisions of Mainland China, is provided for by Article 31, rather than Article 30, of the Constitution of the People's Republic of China of 1982. Article 31 reads: "The state may establish special administrative regions when necessary. The systems to be instituted in special administrative regions shall be prescribed by law enacted by the National People's Congress in the light of the specific conditions".
At present, there are two SARs established according to the Constitution, namely the Hong Kong SAR and the Macau SAR, former British and Portuguese dependencies respectively, transferred to China in 1997 and 1999 pursuant to the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1984 and the Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration of 1987 respectively. Pursuant to their Joint Declarations, which are binding inter-state treaties registered with the United Nations, and their Basic laws, the Chinese SARs "shall enjoy a high degree of autonomy." There is additionally the Wolong Special Administrative Region in Sichuan province, which is however not established according to Article 31 of the Constitution.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in the Macao Special Administrative Region on Monday for a three-day inspection tour. This is his first visit to the region. Li said Macao is a land that has seen the successful practice of the "one country, two systems" principle. He also said that during his stay, he will announce policies and measures to help the region speed up its economic development and maintain long-term prosperity and stability.

Things to do in Macau Travel Guide & Macanese Street Food
Macau, considered by many to be the Las Vegas of the Far East, is only a short ferry ride away from Hong Kong, China. Macau Travel Guide
A travel guide for visiting the Historic Portuguese Center of Macau. Macau (also spelled Macao) was a colony of Portugal from 1557 from 1999 and has a very interesting mix of Asian and European architectures. The Center of the old city is Senado Square which has a pedestrianized street that leads to the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral. Macau derived it's name from the A-Ma Temple, originally built in 1448 and still standing today. It is small and museum-like, a fine example of colonial Portugal on the South China Sea. Things to do in Hong Kong and Macau Travel Guide
When I reflect back on our travels around Asia few memories are fonder than our time spent in both Hong Kong and Macau. From the fascinating attractions in both cities to the amazing local eats we really packed in a lot over a short period of time. Things to do in Macau Travel Guide
Today's feature travel video from Asia is of the top attractions worth considering while visiting in Macau, China including checking out Senado Square and the Ruins of Saint Paul's Cathedral. Feeling well rested after going to bed several hours earlier than normal, we felt a jolt of adrenaline about exploring the historic areas of Macau located on another island from the hotel we were staying at. Fortunately, our hotel offered 'free' transfer service from Cotai to the Macau Peninsula. We literally went from an island filled with nothing but luxury casinos to a more historic area that featured historic Portuguese inspired architecture, cobbled walkways and a plethora of people. In terms of attractions, most people who come to visit Macau may only come for the gambling. That's a shame. Attractions such as Senado Square and the ruins of Saint Paul Cathedral await those who explore its old city quarters. After 466 years, Portugal handed back the city of Macau to China. It is small and museum-like, a fine example of colonial Portugal on the South China Sea.
The Fortaleza Do Monte is a typical Portuguese fortified complex strategically located on a hill above the old cathedral in the heart of the city. Its many old canons and mighty fortress walls are reminders of those times when invasion was a constant threat.
The old centre of the city is the triangular Largo Do Senado, Senate Square. Its wonderful colonial buildings with their light-colored facades were built at the end of the 19th century and completely renovated in the final decade of the 20th.
Macau's largest Buddhist temple, Templo de Kun Iam Tong, dates back 400 years to the Ming Dynasty when its original foundations were built. Beyond its main gate, just off a busy street in the north of the city, is a peaceful oasis of silence and contemplation, a mystic place in which stone lions, golden Buddhas and all who visit are surrounded by serene, aromatic wisps of smoke.
The beautiful Jardim de Lou Lim Ioc Park is situated in the northern less touristy business district of the city. It was designed in the 19th century by a wealthy Chinese trader, Lou Kau. This marvelous oasis is an idyllic setting with a lotus pond, rocks, grottos and waterfalls.
Excursions are available on restored motorized junks that leave from the City's harbor several times a day.
Taipa is the larger of the two islands that belong to Macau. The tangled and narrow alleys in the centre of Vila da Taipa abound with rural character and Portuguese street signs are painted on azulejos. The island's shops and light-colored houses would be equally at home in Portugal.
Although the Macau of today has much contemporary flair, it continues to enjoy a rich colonial inheritance that is well worth seeing.

We were amazed by the beauty of macau and we were so glad that we found a guide to show us around. His name was peter and he showed us around for hk$500 per person. He was the nicest guide ever hehe We went to Macau Tower, Macau Fisherman's Wharf, St. Dominic's Church, Macau City Centre, Museum of Macau, Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral , also watched The Amazing Dragon of Fortune Show and Our last stop was The Venetian Macau Resort Hotel where there was a venice inspired indoor grand canal shoppes area for shopping plus casino where we tried our luck 😎😎😎 it was a fun day out with my lovely sisters...

Today's feature travel video from Asia is of the top attractions worth considering while visiting in Macau, China including checking out Senado Square and the Ruins of Saint Paul's Cathedral. Feeling well rested after going to bed several hours earlier than normal, we felt a jolt of adrenaline about exploring the historic areas of Macau located on another island from the hotel we were staying at. Fortunately, our hotel offered 'free' transfer service from Cotai to the Macau Peninsula. We literally went from an island filled with nothing but luxury casinos to a more historic area that featured historic Portuguese inspired architecture, cobbled walkways and a plethora of people.

As soon as we got outside of the transfer bus, Audrey marveled, "I feel as though I'm back visiting more relatives in Brazil or wandering around in Portugal."
The first place we visited was the Senada Square (Portuguese: Largo do Senado; Chinese: 議事亭前地). With pastel colored buildings, Portuguese white & black pavement and a series of red lanterns, this place was a collision between East meets West.
Prior to Macau becoming the 'Las Vegas' of Asia with its plethora of casinos, Senate Square was the epicenter of the former Portuguese Colony of Macau.
As the Historic Centre of Macao (Chinese: 澳門歷史城區; Portuguese: O Centro Histórico de Macau) it is one of twenty locations featuring the melting pot of Chinese and Portuguese cultures in Macau.
Even though Macau has been a Special Administrative Region of China since 1999, it has still retained its Portuguese influence from several centuries of colonial rule.
As we walked past the main square we started to branch off into a narrower alley where we were inundated by the exotic smells of Macanese delights being peddled by shop owners and hawkers alike.
Some of the most popular Macanese foods we sampled included Egg Tarts, Almond Cookies and Porkchops in buns.
Macanese cuisine is a mix of Portuguese, Chinese and SE Asian ingredients forming one of the more distinct fusion style cuisines in all of Asia.
After taking the time to gormandize on Macanese treats, we continued our ascent towards the imposing Ruins of Saint Paul's Cathedral ((Portuguese: Ruínas de São Paulo, Chinese: 大三巴牌坊).
Considered as one of the most famous landmarks in all of Macau.
The heat and humidity of Macau in late August was on par with the weather we had been experiencing in SE Asia for several months.

Today's feature travel video from Asia is of the top attractions worth considering while visiting in Macau, China including checking out Senado Square and the Ruins of Saint Paul's Cathedral. Feeling well rested after going to bed several hours earlier than normal, we felt a jolt of adrenaline about exploring the historic areas of Macau located on another island from the hotel we were staying at. Fortunately, our hotel offered 'free' transfer service from Cotai to the Macau Peninsula. We literally went from an island filled with nothing but luxury casinos to a more historic area that featured historic Portuguese inspired architecture, cobbled walkways and a plethora of people.

As soon as we got outside of the transfer bus, Audrey marveled, "I feel as though I'm back visiting more relatives in Brazil or wandering around in Portugal."
The first place we visited was the Senada Square (Portuguese: Largo do Senado; Chinese: 議事亭前地). With pastel colored buildings, Portuguese white & black pavement and a series of red lanterns, this place was a collision between East meets West.
Prior to Macau becoming the 'Las Vegas' of Asia with its plethora of casinos, Senate Square was the epicenter of the former Portuguese Colony of Macau.
As the Historic Centre of Macao (Chinese: 澳門歷史城區; Portuguese: O Centro Histórico de Macau) it is one of twenty locations featuring the melting pot of Chinese and Portuguese cultures in Macau.
Even though Macau has been a Special Administrative Region of China since 1999, it has still retained its Portuguese influence from several centuries of colonial rule.
As we walked past the main square we started to branch off into a narrower alley where we were inundated by the exotic smells of Macanese delights being peddled by shop owners and hawkers alike.
Some of the most popular Macanese foods we sampled included Egg Tarts, Almond Cookies and Porkchops in buns.
Macanese cuisine is a mix of Portuguese, Chinese and SE Asian ingredients forming one of the more distinct fusion style cuisines in all of Asia.
After taking the time to gormandize on Macanese treats, we continued our ascent towards the imposing Ruins of Saint Paul's Cathedral ((Portuguese: Ruínas de São Paulo, Chinese: 大三巴牌坊).
Considered as one of the most famous landmarks in all of Macau.
The heat and humidity of Macau in late August was on par with the weather we had been experiencing in SE Asia for several months.

Macao's Twin Panda Cubs Named "Jian Jian", "Kang Kang"
The twin panda cubs in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) have officially been named "Jian Jian" and "Kang Kang", the city's civil affair authority said on Saturday. The names represent good wishes from the Macao people, as Jian and Kang in Chinese means "good health". They are chosen from among the 1,718 names offered by 3,587 people, Macao's Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (CMAB) said. "Jian Jian" and "Kang Kang" are the most favored choices as they were proposed by 1,117 people, who said they so named them to wish the panda cubs good health and wish Macao people good health and happy life. Li visited a local family and asked them about their daily lives. He said that he was rejoiced to see the family lives a happy life and the elderly enjoy good pensions. He gave the children his autograph upon leaving.
Li visited Keang Peng School, one of Macao's oldest schools. He viewed in the school's educational development, walked into school labs to see student innovations, and watched the school's band perform. Li said that students are the future of Macao as well as the future of the nation, and hoped the students would continue to love their hometown and their country and have equal opportunities to quality education.
Li also viewed the progress of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge project, a series of bridge and tunnels that connect three major cities on the Pearl River Delta. He said that the bridge needs to be finished as soon as possible to benefit the people in the three cities.
At the Rua do Cunha, a narrow pedestrian street and a must-see place for tourists, Li bought traditional local snacks like Portuguese custard tarts and almond cakes. The central government has recently proposed many favorable policies toward Macao according to its fresh demand, including support to the annual Global Tourism Economy Forum in Macao and to the setting up of a Renminbi (RMB) settlement center for Portuguese-speaking countries and headquarters of China-Portuguese Speaking Countries Cooperation and Development Fund, said Li, Macao should take the opportunity to promote prosperity and benefit the people.
Li also ascended the Macao Tourism Tower to have a bird's eye-view of the whole region and heard a report on the five-year development strategy of Macao for the next five years. The central government has recently proposed many favorable policies toward Macao according to its fresh demand, including support to the annual Global Tourism Economy Forum in Macao and to the setting up of a Renminbi (RMB) settlement center for Portuguese-speaking countries and headquarters of China-Portuguese Speaking Countries Cooperation and Development Fund, said Li, Macao should take the opportunity to promote prosperity and benefit the people.
Li also ascended the Macao Tourism Tower to have a bird's eye-view of the whole region and heard a report on the five-year development strategy of Macao for the next five years. The twin panda cubs in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) have officially been named "Jian Jian" and "Kang Kang", the city's civil affair authority said on Saturday.
The names represent good wishes from the Macao people, as Jian and Kang in Chinese means "good health". They are chosen from among the 1,718 names offered by 3,587 people, Macao's Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (CMAB) said.
"Jian Jian" and "Kang Kang" are the most favored choices as they were proposed by 1,117 people, who said they so named them to wish the panda cubs good health and wish Macao people good health and happy life.
CMAB said another reason for making the choice is their parents' names "Kai Kai" and "Xin Xin", which means "happy or delighted", names that are frequently used together with "Jian Jian" and "Kang Kang" in Chinese. The combination of this family's names means happiness and good health.
According to the panda care team, the twin cubs now weigh 4,115 grams and 3,335 grams, respectively, from 135 grams and 53.8 grams at birth. They have their parents' black-and-white appearance, with their eyes open, but they can see things only in front of their eyes.
Female panda Xin Xin has given birth to the pair of male twin cubs on June 26, 2016. Elite Olympic athletes from the Chinese mainland visited a healthcare center for the elderly and a kindergarten in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China on Wednesday.
Olympic athletes, including many medalists from the swimming, diving, weight lifting and track and field teams visited a day care center for the elderly in the morning, learning nursing skills and helping the senior residents to check their blood pressures.
"We are glad to see these athletes come here. We couldn't match them with the faces in the past, but we got to know them today. They are really young, with even the oldest person aging 28 while some are just 18 years old," said a senior Macao resident at the care center.
"This is not my first time (to visit such centers). We have always done this before in the mainland. I think it's meaningful, since there are many people in the world who need help from others. While I think as for us, we really enjoy happiness and within the scope of our strength, we should use our influence to help as many people as we can," said Sun Yang, an Olympic swimming champion.

Benz, his son "Cool" and nephew Ngau-Ngau are part of a team of vigilantes who rob gangsters at night and distribute the loot to the needy. However, his wife is suffering from cancer and knows nothing of their activities. Unbeknownst to all of them, Benz's stepson Lionel, a police officer, is on a deep undercover assignment as an employee of a multinational company called DOA. It is later revealed that DOA is merely the corporate front of a large criminal syndicate and is run by the ruthless Mr. Ko. Lionel, who had a camera surgically implanted onto a contact lens which he wore so the police could track the syndicate's activities and eventually nab them.
Meanwhile, Benz reunites with his old friend Ken, known as the "God of Gamblers". Ngau-Ngau becomes infatuated with Ken's daughter Rainbow and is determined to win her affection, even though Ken eventually makes it known that he prefers "Cool" to date his daughter and Rainbow repeatedly rebuffs Ngau-Ngau's efforts. Lionel realizes his cover has been blown and hides the contact lens in a stuffed teddy bear at home without his family's knowledge. Ngau-Ngau gives the bear to Rainbow when he and "Cool" visit Ken's house. Mr. Ko sends an assassin to Lionel's flat, only to find Benz, who has just returned home. Benz is beaten and tortured and ends up in a coma while Lionel's body is found later, also bearing torture marks.
Police detectives from China, Hong Kong and Macau decide to enlist the help of Ken to take down the wily and cunning Mr. Ko. Ken challenges Mr. Ko to a gambling match in hopes of provoking him into making a mistake. During the match he discovers that DOA's assassins have attacked his house and Rainbow, "Cool" and Ngau-Ngau are inside.
Rainbow is put inside a glass tank, which has gas in it. During the match, Ken reveals that he had undergone through a surgery to implant a card sensor into his fingernail which allows the details of a certain card into the person's brain. The people following Mr. Ko start a revolution against him after watching Lionel Messi of Barcelona score against Real Madrid, winning them. After killing them all, Mr. Ko tries finding Ken. Ken starts shooting cards in retaliation. "Cool", is revealed to be wearing the mask of one of Mr. Ko's crew, whom had secretly diverted the ship back towards the waters, which police are now making their way to. While making their way towards the top, "Cool" and Rainbow meets the Assassin. "Cool" and the Assassin fight, which "Cool" ends him off with a few punches to his face, making him look like a duck.
Mr. Ko starts to escape, only to be met by Ken. Ken now mercilessly shoots cards at Mr. Ko, striking him multiple times. Mr. Ko is later subdued by him, and arrested by the Police.
Back at Ken's home, while Ken is doing the disciple rituals with "Cool", "Cool" receives a call from someone, which also accepts him as a disciple. Ken asks to take a look at him, and is utterly shocked when the person was the "God Of Gamblers" Ko Chun from the former movie.

Mr. Ko starts to escape, only to be met by Ken. Ken now mercilessly shoots cards at Mr. Ko, striking him multiple times. Mr. Ko is later subdued by him, and arrested by the Police.
Back at Ken's home, while Ken is doing the disciple rituals with "Cool", "Cool" receives a call from someone, which also accepts him as a disciple. Ken asks to take a look at him, and is utterly shocked when the person was the "God Of Gamblers" Ko Chun from the former movie.
