During
ABC’s presentation at the
Television Critics Association press tour, the network’s newly hired president
Channing Dungey revealed that the network is in active conversations with Lucasfilm to bring the
Star Wars universe to TV with a live-action series. Dungey said quote, “Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘yes.’ We have had conversations with LucasFilm and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.
George R.R.
Martin, author of the
Game of Thrones series, announced via
Live Journal that an
adaptation of his superhero anthology novels, Wild Cards, is in the works under the
Universal Cable Productions banner. This is the project that Martin started in
1987 before writing Game of Thrones
. Wild Cards writer Melinda Snodgrass and
Syfy Films’
Gregory Noveck are in charge of bringing the series to life, as Martin is under contract with
HBO and is busy writing
The Winds of Winter, the long awaited next novel in the
A Song of
Ice and Fire series.
Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper, best known for their work together on
The Hangover, are bringing an Isis Mini-Series to HBO based on
Joby Warrick’s Pulitzer prize-winning nonfiction novel “Black Flags:
The Rise of
ISIS.” According to
Deadline,
Gregg Hurwitz will write the adaptation and also act as executive producer along with director
Tim Van Patten who will once again be at the helm of an HBO project.
Lionsgate’s
Divergent series, aka
Hot People running from stuff, plans to come to TV even
if none of the actors have signed on to return.
Shailene Woodley,
Ansel Elgort, and now
Miles Teller have all been ambivalent on the prospect of returning with
Teller saying quote, “We signed on for x amount of movies and you take that all into consideration. We wanted to see that storyline finish. You know, it’s moving into a different format. So who knows?”
