Hyderabad Airport may refer to:
An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
Rajiv Ratna Gandhi (i/ˈrɑːdʒiːv ˈɡɑːndiː/; 20 August 1944 – 21 May 1991) was the Prime Minister of India, serving from 1984 to 1989. He took office after the 1984 assassination of his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to become the youngest Indian Prime Minister.
Gandhi (no relation to Mahatma Gandhi) was a scion of the politically powerful Nehru–Gandhi family, which had been associated with the Indian National Congress party. For much of his childhood, his maternal grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru was Prime Minister. Gandhi attended college in the United Kingdom. He returned to India in 1966 and became a professional pilot for the state-owned Indian Airlines. In 1968, he married Sonia Gandhi—and the couple settled in Delhi to a domestic life with their children Rahul and Priyanka. For much of the 1970s, his mother was prime minister and his brother Sanjay (earlier Sanjiv) a MP; despite this, Rajiv Gandhi remained apolitical. After Sanjay's death in an aeroplane crash in 1980, Gandhi reluctantly entered politics at the behest of Indira. The following year he won his brother's Parliamentary seat Amethi and became a member of the Lok Sabha—the lower house of India's Parliament. As part of his political grooming, Rajiv was made a general secretary of the Congress and given significant responsibility in organising the 1982 Asian Games.
Gandhi International Airport may refer to either of two international airports in India:
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (IATA: HYD, ICAO: VOHS) is an international airport serving the metropolis of Hyderabad located at Shamshabad, about 22 km (14 mi) south of Hyderabad.
It was named after Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, by the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. It replaced the former international airport at Begumpet and commercial flight operations began on 23 March 2008. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is India's second public-private partnership airport venture after Cochin International Airport. Its domestic terminal is named after former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. T. Rama Rao. It is the fifth-busiest airport in India by international and overall passenger traffic.
Rajiv Gandhi Airport was the highest-ranked Indian airport by Skytrax in 2013. It serves as a hub for spicejet, Lufthansa Cargo, TruJet, and Blue Dart Aviation and as a focus city for Air India and Jet Airways.
