Licor 43 is a solera aged spirit which is infused with a secret blend of 43 natural
Mediterranean ingredients, giving Licor 43 its unique bouquet of ripe citrus fruits and vanilla.
The legend of the brand goes back to 209BC when the
Roman legions conquered the
Mediterranean Carthaginian city of Quart
Hadas and 'discovered' a licor known as Licor
Mirabilis. The legend says that the
Romans, suspicious of the liqueur, prohibited its production. However, the tradition was so deeply rooted amongst the local people that it was made in secret and the recipe was passed along the generations
.
In the early
20th Century a small Licor 43 factory was founded in the
Southern Spanish city of
Cartagena by two brothers -- the Zamoras. They produced the liqueur known as Licor 43 that was directly descended from Licor Mirabilis.
Success came quickly and in the
1950's it became Spain's best-selling liqueur and exportation began in the 1960's.
Today Licor 43 is enjoyed by people in over 60 countries.
