Inside The Worlds Toughest Prisons: Series 1
Crime journalist Paul Connolly goes behind the bars of some of the world’s most notorious and toughest prisons. Immersing himself in maximum security facilities around the world to live as a prisoner, he encounters the inmates locked up for their crimes and meets the men and women on the right side of law tasked with keeping the criminals behind bars.
Mexico
Paul Connolly is in Mexico, where he enters El Hongo maximum-security prison, a concrete fortress of discipline and punishment from which no one has ever escaped. It was designed to hold more than a thousand inmates, and during Paul's stay he spends one of the most nervous nights of his life banged up in a cell with 37 convicts, including drug traffickers and kidnappers. He is also given rare access to Echo Block - a forbidding top-security jail-within-a-jail designed to contain drug cartel bosses and hit-men.
