Lyndon Baines Johnson (/ˈlɪndən ˈbeɪnz ˈdʒɒnsən/; August 27, 1908 – January 22, 1973), often referred to as LBJ, was the 36th President of the United States from 1963 to 1969, assuming the office after serving as the 37th Vice President of the United States from 1961 to 1963. Johnson was a Democrat from Texas, who served as a United States Representative from 1937 to 1949 and as a United States Senator from 1949 to 1961. He spent six years as Senate Majority Leader, two as Senate Minority Leader, and two as Senate Majority Whip.
Johnson ran for the Democratic nomination in the 1960 presidential election. Although unsuccessful, he was chosen by Senator John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts to be his running mate. They went on to win the election and Johnson was sworn in as Vice President on January 20, 1961. Two years and ten months later, on November 22, 1963, Johnson succeeded Kennedy as President following the latter's assassination. He ran for a full term in the 1964 election, winning by a landslide over Republican Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater. He is one of four people who have served as President and Vice President, as well as in both houses of Congress.
Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913 – April 22, 1994) was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974 when he became the only U.S. president to resign the office. Nixon had previously served as a U.S. Representative and Senator from California and as the 36th Vice President of the United States from 1953 to 1961.
Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, California. After completing his undergraduate studies at Whittier College, he graduated from Duke University School of Law in 1937 and returned to California to practice law. He and his wife, Pat Nixon, moved to Washington in 1942 to work for the federal government. He subsequently served on active duty in the U.S. Navy Reserve during World War II. Nixon was elected to the House of Representatives in 1946 and to the Senate in 1950. His pursuit of the Hiss Case established his reputation as a leading anti-communist, and elevated him to national prominence. He was the running mate of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Republican Party presidential nominee in the 1952 election. Nixon served for eight years as vice president. He waged an unsuccessful presidential campaign in 1960, narrowly losing to John F. Kennedy, and lost a race for Governor of California to Pat Brown in 1962. In 1968 he ran again for the presidency and was elected when he defeated Hubert Humphrey.

Audio of a phone call between Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon on November 3, 1968. This video is a supplement to the post http://italkyoubored.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/the-treason-of-richard-nixon-from-possibility-to-certainty/ which deals with the sabotage of the 1968 Paris peace talks by Richard Nixon.
You can view the full speech here: http://millercenter.org/scripps/archive/speeches/detail/3388 Johnson restates his offer to the North Vietnamese to begin talks for making peace, and he discusses the economic problems and solutions in the United States. After urging both Congress and Americans to end their divisions, the President announces his decision not to seek reelection so that he may focus on executing his presidential duties instead of partisan politics.
This documentary shows compelling evidence that Lyndon Johnson set up the Kennedy assassination to avoid jail and become President. J Edgar Hoover and some high level Texas politicians are also implicated. Could this have been a successful coup? Take 46 minutes and decide for yourself. George Bush Sr. was in the CIA and also knew Malcolm Wallace. Bush was outside the book depository during the assassination. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxJop1... http://youtu.be/l6j7QF0CBUo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjVmkkno8VM

LBJ makes an incredible mistake with his first answer by undermining the purpose of his Warren Commission. His supposed doubts about international connections opens the door for Uncle Walter to question the conclusions of the WC. LBJ tries to close it again at 0:55. But Cronkite walks right in and LBJ fumbles big time as he realizes what a hole he has dug himself. He starts to address the WC conclusions, but then launches into a defense of the Commission's integrity instead, realizing that he can only make things worse by talking specifics. At 1:25 a wonderful subtle snarl stirs the left corner of his mouth as he regrets letting Uncle Walter into the ranch. Then his obfuscating generalities hit the name "Oswald," and he pauses, realizing that he did not want to speak that name and closes h...
The Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign began on March 16, 1968. Robert Francis Kennedy, a U.S. Senator from New York who won a Senate seat in 1964, faced what was widely considered an unrealistic race against an incumbent, President Lyndon B. Johnson. After Johnson's announcement on March 31 that he would not seek re-election, Kennedy still faced Johnson’s leading challenger, Eugene McCarthy, a U.S. Senator from Minnesota, and Vice President Hubert Humphrey, who entered the race following Johnson’s withdrawal, for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Kennedy and McCarthy remained the main challengers to Humphrey and the policies of the Johnson administration. Throughout the spring and summer, Kennedy campaigned in presidential primary elections, especially those in Indiana,...

President Lyndon Johnson was famous for using what's called "the Johnson Treatment," or a set of irresistible persuasion tactics. In this phone call on December 20, 1963, he talks with Representative Albert Thomas (D-Texas) about a clause forcing the President to publicly report to Congress on wheat sales to the Soviet Union and argues that it would resonate poorly with the American public. Listen in as he uses "the Johnson Treatment" to do so. (K6312.11) Learn more at: www.LBJLibrary.org.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a landmark piece of federal legislation in the United States that prohibits racial discrimination in voting.
The assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, on November 22, 1963, remains one of the defining events of the 20th century. The shooting in Dallas, Texas, before thousands of onlookers was also captured by TV cameras and in home movies, yet in the minds of many, much about what happened that day remains shrouded in mystery. Vice-president Lyndon Johnson told CBS newsman Walter Cronkite in 1969 that he did not discount the possibility Kennedy's death was the work of a foreign power: "I can't honestly say that I've ever been completely relieved of the fact that there might have been international connections," he said. Johnson requested the comment be removed from the interview for national security reasons and it only aired after his death.
The night before the Kennedy assassination, Lyndon Baines Johnson met with Dallas tycoons, FBI moguls and organized crime kingpins - emerging from the conference to tell his mistress Madeleine Duncan Brown that "those SOB's" would never embarrass him again. It's a jaw-dropping deposition and it's the biggest JFK smoking gun there is - despite the fact that it has received little media attention.

Racial tensions in the United States and a polarized electorate make a new film about President Lyndon B Johnson relevant for modern audiences. It was of course a good time as actor Woody Harrelson greeted fans as he arrives on the red carpet for the film LBJ. However the issues of race at the center of "LBJ" are very much present in the U.S. presidential election campaign. The campaign has seen Democrat Hillary Clinton blast Republican Donald Trump as a divisive candidate, stoking racist groups. There are many parallels that can be recognized by people in the United States. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/entertainment/~3/FKJ8Gn2E7zY/us-filmfestival-tiff-lbj-idUSKCN11M1IU http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.com

The Path to Power reveals in extraordinary detail the genesis of the almost superhuman drive, energy, and ambition that set Lbj apart. It follows him from the Hill Country to New Deal Washington, from his boyhood through the years of the Depression to his debut as Congressman, his heartbreaking defeat in his first race for the Senate, and his attainment, nonetheless, at age 31, of the national power for which he hungered. In this book, we are brought as close as we have ever been to a true perception of political genius and the American political process. Means of Ascent, Book Two of The Yea...

Yet it was, as well, the time in which the presidency, the goal he had always pursued, would be thrust upon him in the moment it took an assassin's bullet to reach its mark. This, the third in a projected four-volume series, studies not only the pragmatic, ruthless, ambitious Johnson, who wielded influence with both consummate skill and "raw, elemental brutality," but also the Senate itself, which Caro describes (pre-1957) as a "cruel joke" and an "impregnable stronghold" against social change. movie about how President Lyndon Johnson was sucked into the war in Vietnam deeper and deeper
Growing up in the beautiful but rugged Texas Hill Country helped form the man and the politician Lyndon Johnson would become. He learned about hard economic times, the value of education, and got his first taste of politics. In this biographical video, you will learn about the Johnson family, the political journey of LBJ, and his whirlwind romance with Claudia Alta "Lady Bird" Taylor. As President, LBJ championed education, civil rights, the environment, the space program, and social programs -- all while grappling with an escalating war in Vietnam. In 1968, LBJ decided not to run for re-election, retiring to Texas. Lyndon Johnson died in 1973, two years after the opening of the LBJ Library.
During 1973 testimony before Congress, the CEO of America's largest cooperative of milk producers said that while Johnson was President, his cooperative had leased Johnson's private jet at a "plush" price, which Johnson wanted to continue once he was out of office.[24] Johnson continued the FBI's wiretapping of Martin Luther King, Jr. that had been previously authorized by the Kennedy administration under Attorney General Robert Kennedy.[121] As a result of listening to the FBI's tapes, remarks on King's personal lifestyle were made by several prominent officials, including Johnson, who once said that King was a "hypocritical preacher."[122] Johnson also authorized the tapping of phone conversations of others, including the Vietnamese friends of a Nixon associate.[123] In Latin America, ...

In 1937, Johnson successfully contested a special election for Texas's 10th congressional district, that covered Austin and the surrounding hill country. He ran on a New Deal platform and was effectively aided by his wife. He served in the House from April 10, 1937, to January 3, 1949. President Franklin D. Roosevelt found Johnson to be a welcome ally and conduit for information, particularly with regard to issues concerning internal politics in Texas (Operation Texas) and the machinations of Vice President John Nance Garner and Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn. Johnson was immediately appointed to the Naval Affairs Committee. He worked for rural electrification and other improvements for his district. Johnson steered the projects towards contractors that he personally knew, such as the B...
