I’m an occasional cricket fan rather than a diehard, but Richie Benaud’s commentary was always one of the best reasons to tune in. I was never entirely convinced that cricket was as essential to the concept of Western civilisation as Benaud seemed to believe, but he made me believe there might be something there.

Australian Whovian tragics don’t get an early (ie only a few hours after the UK) peek this year. We have to wait for 7:30pm on Boxing Day like any old muggle! How on earth will we manage?

In the wake of a bunch of recent posts, I’ve been thinking about women’s characterisation in fiction a lot. My next fiction purchase will be Grimspace by Ann Aguirre, and I’m sending an Open Call for guest Friday Hoyden post pitches featuring female protagonists, because I need recommendations for the gifts I’m going to give everybody this year.
