Temperatures typically range from −4 °C (25 °F) to 31 °C (88 °F) over the course of a year. The average temperature during summer is between 11 °C (66 °F) and 28 °C (82 °F), and between −4 °C (30 °F) and 10 °C (50 °F) in winter. . With weather fast changing its colours Shimla has become a tourists delight now a days. Jakhu, the highest peak in Shimla and adjoining tourist resorts of Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda records 10 cm to 30 cm of snow. The other parts and tribal areas of Himachal have heavy snow fall, thousands of vehicles get stranded during such conditions on the roads. The state has 31,757.71 sq km of area under snow cover . The picturesque Sangla Valley in Kinnaur district experiences heavy snowfall measuring more than six feet. Nallah and Rohtang pass (130,50 ft) records 80 cm to 100 cm of snow, creating piercing cold wave conditions in adjoining valleys. The tribal areas which records 70 cm to 100 cm of snow groans under arctic conditions with minimum temperature staying between minus 8 and minus 13 degree Celsius and Rohtang pass, Kunzam pass Sangla Valley, Pangi Valley, Bharmour (Chamba) and other high mountain passes are closed for vehicular traffic during this period.
