Comfort zone

The comfort zone is a psychological state in which a person feels familiar, at ease, in control and experiences low anxiety and stress. In the zone a steady level of performance is possible.

Bardwick defines the term as "a behavioral state where a person operates in an anxiety-neutral position."Brown describes it as "Where our uncertainty, scarcity and vulnerability are minimized — where we believe we’ll have access to enough love, food, talent, time, admiration. Where we feel we have some control."

Performance management

Stepping out of the comfort zone raises anxiety and generates a stress response. This results in an enhanced level of concentration and focus.

White (2009) refers to the "optimal performance zone", in which performance can be enhanced by some amount of stress.Yerkes (1907) who reported, "Anxiety improves performance until a certain optimum level of arousal has been reached. Beyond that point, performance deteriorates as higher levels of anxiety are attained." Beyond the optimum performance zone, lies the "danger zone" in which performance declines rapidly under the influence of greater anxiety.

Comfort

Comfort (or comfortability, or being comfortable) is a sense of physical or psychological ease, often characterized as a lack of hardship. Persons who are lacking in comfort are uncomfortable, or experiencing discomfort. A degree of psychological comfort can be achieved by recreating experiences that are associated with pleasant memories, such as engaging in familiar activities, maintaining the presence of familiar objects, and consumption of comfort foods. Comfort is a particular concern in health care, as providing comfort to the sick and injured is one goal of healthcare, and can facilitate recovery. Persons who are surrounded with things that provide psychological comfort may be described as being "in their comfort zone".

Because of the personal nature of positive associations, psychological comfort is highly subjective.

The use of "comfort" as a verb generally implies that the subject is in a state of pain, suffering or affliction, and requires alleviation from that state. Where the term is used to describe the support given to someone who has experienced a tragedy, the word is synonymous with consolation or solace. However, comfort is used much more broadly, as one can provide physical comfort to someone who is not in a position to be uncomfortable. For example, a person might sit in a chair without discomfort, but still find the addition of a pillow to the chair to increase their feeling of comfort.

Comfort Zone CZ550 Radiant Heater Repair - Bypassing Thermostat
This is a Howard Berger Co. Inc. Radiant Heater Model: CZ550 Rating: 120V A.C. 60Hz 1500w Unit. I have now repaired 3 of these by simply bypassing the Thermal Switch and Thermostat Control. I am in no way saying that these units have faulty thermostats but I have had a bad experience so far but they did work for about two years before I started having these issues. Instructions to Bypass the whole Thermostat : 1. Remove the four screws from the control panel and easily move it out into the side very carefully making sure that you do not pull hard as you pull the heating elements out . As you will see there is a wire that comes from the main thermostat control that is closest to the heating elements that leaves all the way down to the thermo switch at the bottom. I remove this wire completely. 2. Then you will notice that the next wire hooked to the thermostat control which will be closest to the outside where all the other wiring is comes directly from the thermostat control to the main power switch. Remove this wire from the thermostat control and strip it. 3. At this point there is only one more wire that is coming from the thermal switch at the bottom since you have already cut the first wire coming from the thermal switch which led up to the inside of the thermostat control. Cut this wire as close to the bottom where the wire is leading back to the thermal switch so that you will have a long length of wire as possible. You will notice that this wire coming from the thermal switch goes directly into the very bottom connection leading to the heating elements. 4. Now simply strip this wire and connect it to the other wire that you have strip previously insecure very well either way that you wish and please keep in mind that high heat can be around these wires so double insulate them with heat shrink or a combination of a wire nut and heat shrink or another material to keep it secure. You have now bypass the thermostat completely. I'm sure this will work for other model numbers of this type of heater just make sure that the system is set up the same. Note, I removed the very bottom tie strap and the next I strapped up above it to give me more flexibility with the wires and I also went ahead and removed the two wires connecting to the thermostats lamp. You do not have to do this as well but the way that I looked at it was that I never needed the thermostat in these units anyway so I went ahead and remove these wires from the lamp and cut them as close as I could on the other ends just to have less wires while doing the repair. Make sure to use a tie strap and tie strap your wires and make sure that the wires are out of the mechanical fans way you do not want these wires getting caught up in the fan you could have a catastrophe on your hands if this happened.

I was in Tokyo when I wanted to try this I went to one of the busiest parts... Shibuya... and did my challenge on a busy street AND on Shibuya crossing... which has the title for the busiest crossing in the world! For me this was about helping me over come social fears, social anxiety, social awkwardness. When you're lying on the floor in the street in front of loads of strangers, it seems a bit pointless worrying about what people might think of you. It's a random task but it's about putting yourself in unfamiliar waters and doing something you wouldn't of imagined doing otherwise.
