Aoife McElwain and Mark Duggan met almost by chance. Duggan, a photographer, was assigned to go to McElwain’s house to take photos of the meatball recipe she was creating for her husband, Niall Byrne to taste-test for a magazine article ... . I guess this was the catalyst for the idea ... Colm Tóibín ... ... ... We have also been loaned tracks from musicians like Little Xs for Eyes, Embrz, Bantum, Enseble Ériu, and Somadrone ... ....

PICK OF THE WEEK. Ah, St Patrick ... It doesn’t all have to be beer and bother, though, with count- less cultural options for the midweek bank holiday break. In Dublin, the team that give you the Body and Soul festival is staging the latest in what are becoming regular invasions of the august surroundings of Imma in Kilmainham, with Ériu (which is named after the Irish goddess that the name Éire derives from, obviously) ... The adventure began with the self-titled album that Ensemble Ériu released last year. An initial alliance between Co Clare school friends Jack Talty and Neil O’Loghlen took off as more players walked into the room to join the ensemble. The duo may be steeped in traditional music, but they also have open ears for other sounds, and the album elegantly sways and sashays between jazz, trad, classical, rock and ambient ... ... ....
