Donald Hewlett (30 August 1920 – 4 June 2011) was an English actor, born in Northenden, Manchester, and best known for his sitcom roles as Colonel Charles Reynolds in It Ain't Half Hot Mum and Lord Meldrum in You Rang, M'Lord?, both written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft. He also had a number of parts in British film and television productions.
Hewlett was born into a wealthy family, his father Thomas Hewlett owned the Anchor Chemical Company which is based in Clayton, Manchester and is now a subsidiary of Air Products.
Hewlett was educated at Clifton College followed by St John's College, Cambridge where he was part of the Footlights Revue. During World War II he served in the Royal Navy as a meteorologist and was stationed for several years in Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands where he was a founder member of the Kirkwall Arts Club. He was later posted to Singapore.
Following his demobilization, Hewlett trained at RADA and gained his first professional acting job in repertory theatre at the Oxford Playhouse where he worked alongside Ronnie Barker. His first television acting role was the part of Lincoln Green in 1954's Orders are Orders.
David Ian Hewlett (born April 18th 1968) is an English-Canadian actor best known for his role as Dr. Meredith Rodney McKay on the science fiction television shows Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe, and his role as David Worth in Cube.
Hewlett was born in Redhill, Surrey, UK, and moved with his family to Canada at an early age. Hewlett became a regular on the series Traders and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues and starred in the movie Cube.
Before his acting career took off, he ran Darkyl Media, a web site design firm, and also founded Fusefilm.com, a now defunct internet community for filmmakers.
Hewlett got his first computer in his mid-teens and became a self-described "computer nerd". While attending high school in Toronto he launched his acting career, starring in student films by Vincenzo Natali. He dropped out of high school in his senior year to pursue careers in acting and computing.
David Hewlett has appeared in many low-budget horror movies, such as The Darkside and the minor cult favourites Scanners II: The New Order and Pin. He also guest starred in several television series. In 1996, he landed one of his better-known roles, as Grant Jansky on Traders. In 1997, Hewlett worked again with Natali, starring in the critically acclaimed thriller Cube as Worth the architect, a role that saw the rise of his stardom due to the commercial success of the low budget Canadian film.
Captain Stephen Peacock is a fictional character from the BBC One comedy show, Are You Being Served?. He is played by Frank Thornton, who went on to take the popular role of Truly in Last of the Summer Wine. Thornton appeared in the 2010 documentary of the show due to him being one of the few remaining actors from the show.
Captain Peacock, the somewhat stuffy floorwalker, considers himself above the assistants with both his position and his dubious military record; he likes to brag about his experiences fighting Rommel in North Africa. Mr. Mash likes to tell the staff that Peacock served in the NAAFI instead, and probably didn't ever leave England, and Mr. Goldberg hints that Peacock's real rank was a Corporal. Allegedly, despite his rank, Peacock began as a sweeper in the stockroom. Although Peacock usually talks as if he were a member of the elite Commando unit, on two occasions he admits he was in the Royal Army Service Corps (logistics) - in addition, throughout the series he wears the RASC tie. By 1975 he has been working at Grace Brothers for 20 years.
Amanda Brugel (born March 24, 1978) is a Canadian actress. Brugel, who was born in Montreal, currently appears in the television series MVP as Megan Chandler. She started out as a dancer but quit when she grew to be taller than her partners. Her other series credits include Paradise Falls and guest appearances in Naked Josh, G-Spot and This is Wonderland as well as the film Jason X. She entered the renowned Theatre Program at York University with a Fine Arts Talent Scholaraship and graduated with a BFA degree. Attended Eastdale Collegiate and Vocational Institute in Oshawa, Ontario.
