Speech acts: Locutionary, Illocutionary, Perlocutionary
Speech acts refer to the actions performed through speech, where utterances not only convey information but also perform a function. The concept was introduced by J.L. Austin and further developed by John Searle. Speech acts can be categorized into three main types:
1. Locutionary Act: The basic act of producing sounds, words, or phrases to form an utterance.
2. Illocutionary Act: The intended communicative force or function of the utterance. It represents the speaker's intention, such as making a promise, giving a command, asking a question, etc.
3. Perlocutionary Act: The effect or impact the utterance has on the listener or the recipient. It involves the listener's reaction, understanding, or behavior influenced by the speaker's words.
