Alan Alda (born Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo; January 28, 1936) is an American actor, director, screenwriter, and author. A six-time Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winner, he is best known for his starring roles as Captain Hawkeye Pierce in the TV series M*A*S*H and Arnold Vinick in The West Wing, and his supporting role in the 2004 film The Aviator as U.S. Senator Owen Brewster, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. For 14 years, he served as the host of Scientific American Frontiers, a television show that explored cutting-edge advances in science and technology. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Stony Brook University and a founder and member of the advisory board of the university's Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science and the Future of Life Institute. He serves on the board of the World Science Festival and is a judge for Math-O-Vision.
Alda was born Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo on January 28, 1936, in New York City, and had a peripatetic childhood, as his parents traveled around the United States in support of his father's job as a performer in burlesque theatres. His father, Robert Alda (born Alphonso Giuseppe Giovanni Roberto D'Abruzzo), was an actor and singer, and his mother, Joan Browne, was a homemaker and former beauty pageant winner. His father was of Italian descent and his mother was of Irish ancestry. His adopted surname, "Alda," is a portmanteau of ALphonso and D'Abruzzo.
M*A*S*H is an American media franchise consisting of a series of novels, a film, several television series, plays, and other properties, owned by 20th Century Fox and based on the semi-autobiographic fiction of Richard Hooker.
The franchise depicts a group of fictional characters who served at the fictional "4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M*A*S*H)" during the Korean War, loosely based on the historic 8055th MASH unit. Hawkeye Pierce is featured as the main character, played by Donald Sutherland in the film and by Alan Alda on television. Later spin-offs involve characters who appeared in the series, but were set after the end of the war. Almost all versions of the series fit into the genre of black comedy or dramedy; the lead characters were doctors or nurses, and the practice of medicine was at the center of events. However, to relieve the pressures of duty in a field hospital close to the front and the attendant horrors of war, the staff engage in humorous hijinks, frivolity and petty rivalries off duty.
Malibu Creek is a year-round stream in western Los Angeles County, California. It drains the southern Conejo Valley and Simi Hills, flowing south through the Santa Monica Mountains, and enters Santa Monica Bay in Malibu, California. The Malibu Creek watershed drains 109 mi (175 km) and its tributary creeks reach as high as 3,000 ft (910 m) into Ventura County, California. The creek's mainstem begins south of Westlake Village at the confluence of Triunfo Creek and Lobo Canyon Creek, and flows 13.4 mi (21.6 km) to Malibu Lagoon.
Malibu Canyon is a chief pass though the mountains, and Malibu Canyon Road is a major north/south route connecting the coast to the inland valley. Malibu Creek starts at Malibou Lake, which is held back by the Malibu Lake Dam. Further downstream, the creek waterfalls 100 ft (30 m)over the Rindge Dam, then carves its final path into Malibu Lagoon.
The area around Malibu Creek was for centuries a major area of Native American life, and the boundary between the Chumash tribes, who lived to the northwest, and the Gabrieliño, to the south and east, was there.
Malibu Creek State Park is a state park of California, United States, preserving the Malibu Creek canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains. The 8,215-acre (3,324 ha) park was established in 1974. Opened to the public in 1976, the park is also a component of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Malibu Creek State Park stretches from below Malibou Lake in the west to Piuma Road in the east. It follows the creek down to the Pacific Ocean and includes the Adamson House and creek's mouth in the Malibu Lagoon at the beach. Tapia Park has recently been incorporated as a subunit of the park. The park includes three natural preserves: 730-acre (300 ha) Liberty Canyon, 300-acre (120 ha) Udell Gorge, and 1,920-acre (780 ha) Kaslow Preserve.
The land that is now Malibu Creek State Park was inhabited by native Chumash people for millennia. The site of a village called Talepop has been uncovered by archaeologists in the northeast corner of the park. By the 1860s a few homesteads existed, including the Sepulveda Adobe, which still stands.
State parks or provincial parks are parks or other protected areas managed at the sub-national level within those nations which use "state" or "province" as a political subdivision. State parks are typically established by a state to preserve a location on account of its natural beauty, historic interest, or recreational potential. There are state parks under the administration of the government of each U.S. state, and of some states of Mexico. The term is also used in Australia, though the distinction between state and national parks there is different. The Canadian equivalent term is provincial park. Similar systems of local government maintained parks exist in other countries, but the terminology varies.
State parks are thus similar to national parks, but under state rather than federal administration. Similarly, local government entities below state level may maintain parks, e.g., regional parks or county parks. In general, state parks are smaller than national parks, with a few exceptions such as the Adirondack Park in New York and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in California.

As with many Generation Xers, I remember seeing MASH on CBS, and watching the reruns. In my case, it was usually after the 10 p.m. news that I tuned in to watch the show throughout the mid-80's. I happened to be by Malibu Creek State Park on a recent visit to the Los Angeles area and decided to take the 2.1 mile hike to the famous outside TV set and take some video. I hope you enjoy it. Of note, the indoor shots were filmed on Stage 9 at Twentieth Century Fox Studios in California. The park is located four miles south of Highway 101 on Las Virgenes / Malibu Canyon Road. Latitude/Longitude: 34.1033 / -118.7331 about 25 miles from L.A. The park is part of the Santa Monica mountains near Malibu in Calabasas. If you want to learn more about M*A*S*H and the site, I suggest the follow...

While in Los Angeles for the 2013 Ten-Four event, I also wanted to visit the location of the MASH or M*A*S*H film set in Malibu Creek State Park. In the same area are other film locations including where Butch and Sundance leaped into the lake and where the village used in the Planet of the Apes was built. It is around a 4 mile hike down Crags Road in the park, but quite doable if you take plenty of water and dress for the conditions. The scenery is incredible and well worth the effort. I am just sorry the video does not do it justice, but all I had with me was a cheap and old pocket camera, so please forgive me. If you are thinking of doing the hike and want any advice, please feel free to ask.You should also look at http://www.hikespeak.com/trails/mash-hike-malibu-creek-state-park/ bef...

Dark side of the Universe with Alan Alda HD Once we thought our world was the center of the Universe. Today we know we're on a minor if privileged planet circling an average star in an inconspicuous spot in an unremarkable galaxy that's just one of billions of galaxies occupying a Universe that stretches farther than we can see even with our biggest telescopes. But in the last few years telescopes like these here in Chile have shown us that we are even less at the center of the Universe than we could ever have imagined. You and me and these rocks and the sun that shines on us and the stars that twinkle overhead aren't even built of the same stuff that most of the Universe is made of. And there's a mysterious force out there in space that literally comes out of nowhere. It's a force that se...

If I were rain
You could watch the colours bleed
If I were time
We could go to where we're happy
If I were tease
Every evening we'd die laughing
I am love
I am love
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love never is
If I were words
I would turn a phrase of you
If I were star
The sky-like eye would open
If I were the sea
A wave from you might drown me
I am love
I am love
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love never is
Love, love is everywhere
Every day
Every way
She's got a mind of her own
Love is bigger than me
Bigger than you so
Just let in in and stop thinking to yourself that
I am love
I am love
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
Love is not not good enough (love is..)
