rapi:t (ラピート rapiito?) is a rapid train service between
Kansai International Airport and
Namba Station in
Osaka, Japan. It is operated by
Nankai Electric Railway, and the train service uses on the
Nankai Main Line and the
Airport Line. The name comes from the
German word rapid, pronounced [ʁaˈpiːt].
The futuristic six-car rapi:t trainsets, officially designated as the
Nankai 50000 series, were designed by architect
Wakabayashi Hiroyuki and won the
Blue Ribbon Prize after entering service in
1995.

Nankai Railway Company (first) was founded on June 16, 1884, then became one of the companies that merge to form
Kinki Nippon Railway Co., Ltd. (Kin-nichi, present
Kintetsu Corp.) in
1944. However Kin-nichi transferred the former Nankai Railway Company
Lines to present Nankai Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (formerly named
Koyasan Electric Railway Co., Ltd. from March 28, 1925 until March 14,
1947) on June 1, 1947. Nankai predates all electric railways in the
Tokyo region.

Sakai (堺市
Sakai-shi?) is a city in
Osaka Prefecture, Japan. It has been one of the largest and most important seaports of Japan since the
Medieval era.
Following the
February 2005 annexation of the town of Mihara, from
Minamikawachi District, the city has grown further and is now the fourteenth most populous city in Japan,[2] with 833,414 residents as of 2007-05-01.[3]
Daisen Kofun
The current city was legally founded on April 1, 1889 according to the laws of
Imperial Japan. Sakai became a designated city in
April 2006[4] giving it a greater measure of self-determination in governmental affairs. It is divided into seven districts.
Sakai is known for its keyhole-shaped burial mounds, or kofun, which date from the
5th century. The largest of these, Daisen Kofun, is believed to be the grave of the
Emperor Nintoku and is the largest grave in the world by area.
Once known for samurai swords, Sakai is now famous for the quality of its kitchen knives; most high-quality
Japanese cutlery originates in Sakai, and its production is a major industry in the city.
