"In Your Eyes" is a song by English rock musician Peter Gabriel from his 1986 album So, with Youssou N'Dour singing some choruses translated into his native Wolof. The track was the main-theme song of the 1989 teen drama film Say Anything... starring Ione Skye and John Cusack.
The single was released in North America as the third single from "So" in the U.S., the song achieved strong radio airplay and a constant MTV rotation. It reached #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks on September, 13 of the same year, it also peaked #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1986. It was not released as a single in the UK. However, Gabriel did release two extended versions of the song as a 12" vinyl single in the US. The first (the Single Mix) ran 6:15. The second (the Special Mix) ran 7:14. In Australia, "In Your Eyes" peaked at #97 in November 1986.
The song was the finale of the Secret World Tour and is the final track on the 1994 Secret World Live album, where it is over 11 minutes long and includes the extra lyrics from the Special Mix, in addition to solos by the other singers and players. It was included on the U.S. version of his 2003 compilation Hit, but not on the European or Japanese versions.
In Your Eyes is a 1983 album by George Benson. It is his only album produced by producer Arif Mardin. It includes the hit "Lady Love Me (One More Time)". The title track would later be covered by Jeffrey Osborne for his 1986 album Emotional.
"Your Eyes" is the 39th single by the Japanese boy band Arashi. It was released on June 6, 2012 by their record label J Storm. "Your Eyes" is the theme song for the drama Mikeneko Holmes no Suiri starring Arashi member Masaki Aiba. The single comes in two editions. The Regular Edition comes with the B-sides voice and Hanabi (花火) and the instrumental versions for both songs. The Limited Edition comes with a promotional video, the B-side Kimi ga Iru Kara (やる気ゼロ), and a 16-page booklet. Eyes are the organs of vision. They detect light and convert it into electro-chemical impulses in neurons. In higher organisms, the eye is a complex optical system which collects light from the surrounding environment, regulates its intensity through a diaphragm, focuses it through an adjustable assembly of lenses to form an image, converts this image into a set of electrical signals, and transmits these signals to the brain through complex neural pathways that connect the eye via the optic nerve to the visual cortex and other areas of the brain. Eyes with resolving power have come in ten fundamentally different forms, and 96% of animal species possess a complex optical system. Image-resolving eyes are present in molluscs, chordates and arthropods.
The simplest "eyes", such as those in microorganisms, do nothing but detect whether the surroundings are light or dark, which is sufficient for the entrainment of circadian rhythms. From more complex eyes, retinal photosensitive ganglion cells send signals along the retinohypothalamic tract to the suprachiasmatic nuclei to effect circadian adjustment and to the pretectal area to control the pupillary light reflex.
Eyes are the round holes that are a characteristic feature of Swiss-type cheese (e.g. Emmentaler cheese) and some Dutch-type cheeses. They are bubbles of carbon dioxide gas that is produced by bacteria in the cheese.
In Swiss-type cheeses, the eyes form as a result of the activity of propionic acid bacteria (propionibacteria), notably Propionibacterium freudenreichii subsp. shermanii. These bacteria transform lactic acid into propionic acid and carbon dioxide, according to the formula:
The CO2 so produced accumulates at weak points in the curd, where it forms the bubbles that become the cheese's eyes. Not all CO2 is so trapped: in an 80 kg (180 lb) cheese, about 20 L CO2 remain in the eyes, while 60 L remain dissolved in the cheese mass and 40 L are lost from the cheese.
In Dutch-type cheeses, the CO2 that forms the eyes results from the metabolisation of citrate by citrate-positive ("Cit+") strains of lactococci.
Twenty-Four Eyes (二十四の瞳, Nijū-shi no Hitomi), based on the 1952 novel of the same name by Sakae Tsuboi, is a 1954 Japanese film directed by Keisuke Kinoshita.
The movie follows the career of a schoolteacher named Hisako Ōishi (played by Hideko Takamine) in Shōdoshima during the rise and fall of Japanese ultra-nationalism in the beginning of the Shōwa period. The narrative begins in 1928 with the teacher's first class of first grade students and follows her through 1946.
The film has been released on DVD in the United Kingdom as part of the Masters of Cinema Collection from Eureka! video and in the US as part of The Criterion Collection.
A 1987 color remake was directed by Yoshitaka Asama.
