Suzanne Nossel is currently Executive Director of the PEN American Center, but her career includes other leadership roles in the non-profit sector (such as Amnesty International USA and Human Rights Watch), public service positions (U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations and deputy to the ambassador for U.N. Management and Reform at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations), and media (vice-presidencies at both Bertelsmann Media Worldwide and The Wall Street Journal). Ms Nossel also worked in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the implementation of South Africa’s National Peace during the early 1900s. The author of books, scholarly articles, and op-ed pieces, she is a columnist for Foreign Policy magazine, as well. Ms Nossel is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Tides Foundation and is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
