First time hang gliding at Mirador del Rio. Wind blew straight onto the point (North wind), resulting in Lee turbulence right after take-off, which was unfortunately not apparent on the ground. The most challenging take-off I had so far and by far. Not to be in full control so close to the ground is certainly not a pleasurable experience.
Once above the terrain, the air was stable and we could soar on both sides of the cliff, which should normally not be possible (hence the challenging take-off). The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and I feel blessed to have been able to soar here!
Since I landed just ahead of a fast approaching gust front, resulting turbulence didn't make it easy to keep the glider straight and the higher speed needed to be able to make ground against the strong wind resulted in pilot induced oscillations (not something I usually do). But I did make the small beach at Orzola and was stoked about the nice flight. Enjoy watching

The Texas Soaring Association (TSA) is a not-for-profit corporation devoted to motorless flight. Established in 1947, the club is located 15 minutes south of Midlothian, Texas, which is itself at the southern edge of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The club is maintained and operated by the voluntary efforts of its more than 200 members. The club operates from its own airfield and owns six single and four two-place sailplanes, plus four Pawnee towplanes. TSA operates year round on most flyable Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The club also operates on an unscheduled basis on other weekdays when the flying weather is really good!

Gliding
Gliding is a recreational activity and competitive air sport in which pilots fly unpowered aircraft known as gliders or sailplanes using naturally occurring currents of rising air in the atmosphere to remain airborne. The word soaring is also used for the sport.
Gliding as a sport began in the 1920s. Initially the objective was to increase the duration of flights but soon pilots attempted cross-country flights away from the place of launch. Improvements in aerodynamics and in the understanding of weather phenomena have allowed greater distances at higher average speeds. Long distances are now flown using any of the main sources of rising air: ridge lift, thermals and lee waves. When conditions are favourable, experienced pilots can now fly hundreds of kilometres before returning to their home airfields; occasionally flights of more than 1,000 kilometres (621 mi) are achieved.
Some competitive pilots fly in races around pre-defined courses. These gliding competitions test pilots' abilities to make best use of local weather conditions as well as their flying skills. Local and national competitions are organized in many countries, and there are biennial World Gliding Championships. Techniques to maximize a glider's speed around the day's task in a competition have been developed, including the optimum speed to fly, navigation using GPS and the carrying of water ballast. If the weather deteriorates pilots are sometimes unable to complete a cross-country flight. Consequently, they may need to land elsewhere, perhaps in a field, but motorglider pilots can avoid this by starting an engine.

First time hang gliding at Mirador del Rio. Wind blew straight onto the point (North wind), resulting in Lee turbulence right after take-off, which was unfortun...
First time hang gliding at Mirador del Rio. Wind blew straight onto the point (North wind), resulting in Lee turbulence right after take-off, which was unfortunately not apparent on the ground. The most challenging take-off I had so far and by far. Not to be in full control so close to the ground is certainly not a pleasurable experience.
Once above the terrain, the air was stable and we could soar on both sides of the cliff, which should normally not be possible (hence the challenging take-off). The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and I feel blessed to have been able to soar here!
Since I landed just ahead of a fast approaching gust front, resulting turbulence didn't make it easy to keep the glider straight and the higher speed needed to be able to make ground against the strong wind resulted in pilot induced oscillations (not something I usually do). But I did make the small beach at Orzola and was stoked about the nice flight. Enjoy watching

The Texas Soaring Association (TSA) is a not-for-profit corporation devoted to motorless flight. Established in 1947, the club is located 15 minutes south of Midlothian, Texas, which is itself at the southern edge of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The club is maintained and operated by the voluntary efforts of its more than 200 members. The club operates from its own airfield and owns six single and four two-place sailplanes, plus four Pawnee towplanes. TSA operates year round on most flyable Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The club also operates on an unscheduled basis on other weekdays when the flying weather is really good!
This video was made with the interest of gliding in mind. This video was made by a small group of TSA youth members.

UFO Enthusiast Claims Discovery Of Ancient Alien Writing On ‘Abandoned Spacecraft’ On Mars

A UFO enthusiast has claimed to have discovered what appears to be an “abandoned spaceship” on Mars. And that’s not all. The supposed craft, captured in a NASA Mars photo, has strange markings in the manner of hieroglyphs on its surface that the enthusiast believes could very well be a form of alien writing ...
