Disc jockey

A disc jockey (abbreviated DJ, D.J. or deejay) is a person who plays recorded music for an audience, either a radio audience if the mix is broadcast or the audience in a venue such as a bar or nightclub. In venues such as a club event or rave, this is an audience of dancers. Originally, "disc" (uncommonly spelled "disque" in French or commonly "disk" in American English) referred to phonograph records, not the later compact discs. Today, the term includes all forms of music playback, no matter which medium is used (e.g. vinyl, CDs, MP3 players).

The title "DJ" is also commonly used by DJs in front of their real names or adopted pseudonyms as a title to denote their profession and the music they play.

Types

There are several types of disc jockey. Radio DJs or radio personalities introduce and play music that is broadcast on AM, FM, digital or internet radio stations. Club DJs select and play music in bars, nightclubs or discothèques, or at parties or raves, or even in stadiums. Mobile DJs travel with portable sound systems and play recorded music at a variety of events. Some mobile DJs also serve as the master of ceremonies (MC) directing the attention of attendees, and maintaining a room-wide focus on what is included in the event's agenda. There are also many competitions that specialise in mixing, scratching or other kinds of techniques.

Dee Jay

Dee Jay (ディージェイ, Dī Jei) is a fictional character in the Street Fighter series. He made his first appearance in the 1993's Super Street Fighter II as one of the four new characters introduced in the game. In the series, he is a Jamaican kickboxer and karateka who also works as a recording artist and breakdancer. He was the only character at the time to be designed by an American. Dee Jay was based on real-life kickboxer Billy Blanks and has received mixed critical reception.

Appearances

Dee Jay made his debut in Super Street Fighter II (1993) as one of the four new characters introduced in the game in addition to the original twelve character roster from previous Street Fighter II games. He enters the World Warrior tournament, seeking inspiration to develop a new musical sound. Dee Jay reappears as a playable character in the console versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3 (1998) and in the console version of Street Fighter: The Movie. The game is set before the World Warrior tournament and depicts Dee Jay before he began his professional music career. While he was not included in Street Fighter IV, development of his character for its sequel, Super Street Fighter IV, had commenced during the former game's development. Audio files of the announcer from Street Fighter IV announcing Dee Jay were found amongst the game's audio files. He was revealed along with T. Hawk, who also originated from Super Street Fighter II, and Juri, a character created for Street Fighter IV. In Super Street Fighter II, Dee Jay has a manager named Rick, while in Street Fighter Alpha 3 he has an agent named Bob.

Battleforce 2000

Battleforce 2000 is a fictional sub-team from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline and comic books. First released in late 1987 (with a final vehicle and member released in 1989), they represent a hi-tech unit of the Joes using experimental weaponry under battlefield conditions.

Toys

The toy line was made up of seven action figures, with the six from 1987 being packaged in both single and two-packs. All but one of the characters was assigned as the primary driver of a hi-tech vehicle, which was sold separately. Dodger was repainted and released as part of the Sonic Fighters line in 1990.

A part of six of the vehicles can be combined to form a small hi-tech fortress called the Future Fortress, which consisted of secondary parts that merely sat next to one another, with no interlocking pieces. Most of the vehicles have a white, silver, grey and dark blue color scheme. An exception is the Pulverizer, the 1989 addition to the series, which does not have a piece that can be combined with the fortress.

"I Can Be" is a song by British singer-songwriter Taio Cruz, released as the fourth single from his debut album Departure, released in May 2008. The song peaked at number 18 on the UK Singles Chart. The single's B-side, "Disco Fever", was written and recorded exclusively for the release, and featured in the television adverts for Britannia High, an ITV1 musical series broadcast in July 2008.

Reception

Digital Spy gave the song three out of five stars, claiming: "Taio Cruz has slowly been building a reputation as the finest young R&B talent in the UK. His third single, the electro-tinged 'Come On Girl', broke into the top ten, while debut album Departure revealed the Sussex-born singer had plenty of strings to his musical bow. With the sort of cocky bravado usually reserved for US superstars and without a Timbaland cameo in sight, Taio has all the ingredients to become a credible British alternative to the likes of Usher, Nelly and Justin Timberlake. His latest offering, 'I Can Be', is a slick slice of R&B that should continue his ascent nicely. The electro beats and string samples are subtler and more graceful than Timbaland's chunky wallops, which have sadly become the staple for modern urban music, while the ultra-confident and cliché-packed lyrics, though not to everyone's tastes, are refreshingly unpretentious. With Estelle lending her vocals to the American remix and word-of-mouth spreading about his talents, Cruz looks like he's genuinely destined for stardom."

I Can Be (Ida song)

"I Can Be" is the debut single by Danish singer Ida who won the fifth Danish series of The X Factor. It was released as a Digital download in Denmark on 31 March 2012. The song entered the Danish Singles Chart at number 1. The song is included on her debut studio album Seize the Day (2013).
