The Western Ghats, Nilgiri Sub-Cluster (6,000+ km²), conjoining the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.

Southwest Nova Biosphere Reserve
Welcome to the UNESCO Southwest Nova Biosphere Reserve, the largest wilderness area in the Maritimes -- second largest in Canada. Nestled in southern part of Nova Scotia, the biosphere encompasses almost a quarter of the province - 1.5 million hectares!
The area is teeming with natural and cultural diversity. Immerse yourself in the deep-rooted cultures: Mi'Kmaq, Acadian, Loyalists and Scottish. Referred to as "Kespukwitk" by the Mi'kmaw people, this is the place where the flowing waters meet the ocean. Our UNESCO Biosphere, consisting of Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada, the Tobeatic Wilderness Area and the surrounding five counties in southwest Nova Scotia, is home to highest diversity of reptiles and amphibians east of Ontario and more than 75 percent of Nova Scotia's species at risk. The area also has the largest collection of petroglyphs in eastern North America.
The Biosphere has the rugged coast of the Bay of Fundy on one side, which boasts the highest tides in the world -- where water rises and falls as much as 50 feet twice a day and is bountiful in sea vegetables and sea life. On the other, a coastline of white sandy beaches invite you to explore, hear and feel the crisp Atlantic Ocean and her powerful surf.

The national park of Khar Turan, located southeast of the Iranian city of Shahrud, is believed to be the second largest biosphere reserve in the world.
Khar Turan national park, with an area of around 1.5 million hectares, is the world's second largest biosphere reserve after Africa's Serengeti, says the park's Chief Ranger Ali Akbar Ghorbanloo.
Shahrud's Khar Turan, in the province of Semnan, is also home to the World's last remaining Asiatic cheetah in captivity called Delbar (meaning enchanting in Persian).
"The park is the only region in Iran that has a complete ecological pyramid," says Ghorbanloo.
Due to the park's vast scale and difficult desert situation, most of its animals and species have been able to save themselves against poachers.
The area has one of the richest diversities in terms of mammal species in the country, and has the largest population of onager in Iran as well as a good number of the two species of gazelles, wild sheep and wild goat, which ensure cheetah survival.

Man and the Biosphere Programme
Launched in 1971, UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) is an Intergovernmental Scientific Programme that aims to establish a scientific basis for the improvement of relationships between people and their environments.
MAB’s work engages fully with the international development agenda –specially with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Post 2015 Development Agenda– and addresses challenges linked to scientific, environmental, societal and development issues in diverse ecosystems; from mountain regions to marine, coastal and island areas; from tropical forests to drylands and urban areas. MAB combines the natural and social sciences, economics and education to improve human livelihoods and the equitable sharing of benefits, and to safeguard natural and managed ecosystems, thus promoting innovative approaches to economic development that are socially and culturally appropriate, and environmentally sustainable.
The MAB programme provides a unique platform for cooperation on research and development, capacity-building and networking to share information, knowledge and experience on three interlinked issues: biodiversity loss, climate change and sustainable development. It contributes not only to better understanding of the environment, but also promotes greater involvement of science and scientists in policy development concerning the wise use of biological diversity.

The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is an International Biosphere Reserve in the Western Ghats, Nilgiri Hills range of South India. The Western Ghats, Nilgiri Sub-Cluster (6,000+ km²), conjoining the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site. IRAN - Iran's Khar Turan 2nd largest biosphere reserve in world
The national park of Khar Turan, located southeast of the Iranian city of Shahrud, is believed to be the second largest biosphere reserve in the world. Khar Turan national park, with an area of around 1.5 million hectares, is the world's second largest biosphere reserve after Africa's Serengeti, says the park's Chief Ranger Ali Akbar Ghorbanloo. Shahrud's Khar Turan, in the province of Semnan, is also home to the World's last remaining Asiatic cheetah in captivity called Delbar (meaning enchanting in Persian). "The park is the only region in Iran that has a complete ecological pyramid," says Ghorbanloo. Our UNESCO Biosphere, consisting of Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada, the Tobeatic Wilderness Area and the surrounding five counties in southwest Nova Scotia, is home to highest diversity of reptiles and amphibians east of Ontario and more than 75 percent of Nova Scotia's species at risk. The area also has the largest collection of petroglyphs in eastern North America.
The Biosphere has the rugged coast of the Bay of Fundy on one side, which boasts the highest tides in the world -- where water rises and falls as much as 50 feet twice a day and is bountiful in sea vegetables and sea life. On the other, a coastline of white sandy beaches invite you to explore, hear and feel the crisp Atlantic Ocean and her powerful surf.
For generations we have called this home, fished, farmed, harvested and appreciated a unique, traditional way of life, where Man and his Biosphere interact sustainably.

The national park of Khar Turan, located southeast of the Iranian city of Shahrud, is believed to be the second largest biosphere reserve in the world.
Khar Turan national park, with an area of around 1.5 million hectares, is the world's second largest biosphere reserve after Africa's Serengeti, says the park's Chief Ranger Ali Akbar Ghorbanloo.
Shahrud's Khar Turan, in the province of Semnan, is also home to the World's last remaining Asiatic cheetah in captivity called Delbar (meaning enchanting in Persian).
"The park is the only region in Iran that has a complete ecological pyramid," says Ghorbanloo.
Due to the park's vast scale and difficult desert situation, most of its animals and species have been able to save themselves against poachers.
The area has one of the richest diversities in terms of mammal species in the country, and has the largest population of onager in Iran as well as a good number of the two species of gazelles, wild sheep and wild goat, which ensure cheetah survival.

The Reserve is home to two famous breeding and reintroduction centers: for the Caucasian-Byelovezh bison and for rare crane species, such as Siberian, red- crowned, and hooded cranes.

The Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is a non-use conservation area and biosphere reserve in the Satpura Range of Madhya Pradesh state, in central India. The conservation area was created in 1999 by the Indian government. UNESCO designated a biosphere reserve in 2009. The Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is located within areas of Hoshangabad, Betul, and Chhindwara Districts in Madhya Pradesh state in India The biosphere reserve's total area is 4,926.28 square kilometers The reserve is composed primarily of forest habitats, and is an important transition zone between the forest species of western and eastern India. The forests are dominated by teak . They include the westernmost groves of sal , which is the dominant tree of eastern India's forests. Other endemic vegetation includes wild mango, silver fern, jamun and arjun. Central India is considered a tiger state due to large population that inhabits wildlife sanctuaries.and the reserves. The major habitats of tigers are the popular National Parks in Vindhya and Satpura Range. These are under the Project Tiger Programs being the best conservation units in the country. The prime attractions in these reserves are tigers that command large territories and have created the name for themselves.

The reserve is only 21 km from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants and the 15 or so leopards are rarely seen. The most common larger mammal is the endemic purple-faced langur.
An interesting phenomenon is that birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless greater racket-tailed drongo and the noisy orange-billed babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive red-faced malkoha, green-billed coucal and Sri Lanka blue magpie.
Reptiles include the endemic green pit viper and hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic common birdwing butterfly and the inevitable leeches.

The reserve is only 21 km from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants and the 15 or so leopards are rarely seen. The most common larger mammal is the endemic purple-faced langur.
An interesting phenomenon is that birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless greater racket-tailed drongo and the noisy orange-billed babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive red-faced malkoha, green-billed coucal and Sri Lanka blue magpie.
Reptiles include the endemic green pit viper and hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic common birdwing butterfly and the inevitable leeches.

UNESCO has been protecting and managing it by designating conservation area as a high ecological vaue, and we call transboundary biosphere reserve where two more countries meet. However, the world first project wasn't that easy as we thought. Three conturies has had bloody history for a long time. The second World War is the severe period towrad three conturies. However, consideraton for peace, and the 'nature' chosen for peace allowed them to seek for cooperation and peace which wasn't that easy among three conturies.
We visit Bieszczady National Park in Poland, Poloniny National Park in Slovakia, Uzhanski Naitonal Park in Ukraine which represents East Carpathians Transboundary Biosphere Reserves, and hear cooperation among three countries and which committment they're currently making to preserve conservation area.
