Michael Shayne is a fictional private detective character created during the late 1930s by writer Brett Halliday. The character appeared in a series of seven films starring Lloyd Nolan for Twentieth Century Fox, four films from the low-budget Producers Releasing Corporation with Hugh Beaumont, a radio series under a variety of titles between 1944 and 1953, and later in 1960–1961 in a 32-episode NBC television series starring Richard Denning in the title role. In 1960, the 32-episode Michael Shayne television series began on NBC, with Richard Denning, formerly of the series Mr. and Mrs. North, playing Michael Shayne. Patricia Donahue originated the role of Lucy Hamilton, Shayne's secretary. She was replaced by Margie Regan after more than half of the episodes had been filmed. Herbert Rudley played Lieutenant Will Gentry of the Miami Police Department, and Jerry Paris played reporter Tim Rourke of the fictitious Miami Tribune. Gary Clarke, later of The Virginian, played Dick Hamilton, Lucy's younger brother, a character who does not appear in Halliday's books.

本片從一開始就妙趣橫生，高潮迭起，明明使用第一人稱敘事，卻又不斷暫停、倒轉，手法完全超前《大賣空》，直把類型趣味玩到盡。小勞勃道尼、方基墨的演出超水準，前者還演唱了片尾曲。愛好懸疑推理及黑色幽默的影迷，絕對不容錯過。

Brett Halliday (July 31, 1904 - February 4, 1977), primary pen name of Davis Dresser, was an American mystery writer, best known for the long-lived series of Michael Shayne novels he wrote, and later commissioned others to write. Dresser wrote non-series mysteries, westerns and romances under the names Asa Baker, Matthew Blood, Kathryn Culver, Don Davis, Hal Debrett, Anthony Scott, Peter Field, and Anderson Wayne.
Dresser was born in Chicago, Illinois, but mostly grew up in West Texas. Here he lost an eye to barbed wire as a boy, and thus had to wear an eye patch for the rest of his life. At the age of 14, he ran away from home and enlisted in the U.S. 5th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Bliss, Texas, followed by a year of Border Patrol duty on the Rio Grande. After his service, he returned to Texas to finish high school. In search of adventure, Dresser traveled throughout the Southwest working at various odd jobs, including that of muleskinner, farm hand, deckhand on a freighter in the Gulf of Mexico, laborer in the California oilfields, etc. Eventually, he went to Tri-State College of Engineer, where he received a certificate in civil engineering. Back in Texas, he worked as an engineer and surveyor for several years before turning to writing in 1927.

In 1960, the 32-episode Michael Shayne television series began on NBC, with Richard Denning, formerly of the series Mr. and Mrs. North, playing Michael Shayne. Patricia Donahue originated the role of Lucy Hamilton, Shayne's secretary. She was replaced by Margie Regan after more than half of the episodes had been filmed. Herbert Rudley played Lieutenant Will Gentry of the Miami Police Department, and Jerry Paris played reporter Tim Rourke of the fictitious Miami Tribune. Brett Ponich ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced Tuesday the club has signed defenseman Brett Ponich.
Ponich will remain with his junior team, the Portland Winterhawks throughout the Western Hockey League's (WHL) playoffs.
Ponich, 19, has spent the past four seasons with the Winterhawks of the WHL.
This season, the 6'7", 215-pound defenseman has played in 66 games for the Winterhawks, tallying a goal and 13 assists for 14 points while serving 87 penalty minutes. Ponich is currently in the postseason with Portland and has registered one goal and two penalty minutes in five games played.
Overall, the Edmonton, Alberta native has made 204 appearances for Portland, amassing 35 points on two goals and 33 assists while collecting 267 penalty minutes.
Ponich was the Blues' second round selection (48th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
