Shobha (23 September 1962 – 1 May 1980) was a South Indian film actress. She started her career as a child artist in the Tamil film Thattungal Thirakkappadum. Her first film as a heroine was Utrada Raatri. Shobha's real name was Mahalakshmi. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the Tamil film Pasi at the age of 17.
Shoba was born to K. P. Menon and Prema Menon. Her mother was one of the leading actresses in Malayalam cinema in the 1950s.
In 1966, Shoba made her screen debut in Tamil Thriller film Thattungal Thirakkappadum directed by actor J. P. Chandrababu. In the film she was credited as Baby Mahalakshmi where she played the role of Lakshmi opposite actress Savitri, K. R. Vijaya, R. S. Manohar and Chandrababu himself. Though the film was highly acclaimed but it did not fare well at box office. The following year she made her debut in Malayalam cinema through Udhyogastha by P. Venu where she was named as Baby Shoba. Touted as the first "multi-starrer", with five top actors, in Malayalam cinema, the film had Sathyan, Prem Nazir, K. P. Ummer, Padmini, Sharada, Sheela and Rajasree in the lead along with Shobha. The film was a big hit and gained Shoba recognition as a child actor in South Indian cinema.
Shubha Khote (born 1940) is an Indian film and television actress. She is the older sister of actor Viju Khote.
Shubha Khote studied at St. Teresa's High School, Girgaum, Mumbai and then graduated in English Literature from Wilson College. Her father Nandu Khote was a stage actor, and had also acted in the silent movies. Her aunt, Durga Khote, was also a well-known actress. Her daughter, Bhavana Balsavar is also a TV actress.
She made her stage debut as child actor at age 4. Shubha Khote made her film debut in Seema (1955) as Putli. This role came to her since she was a good cyclist and her cycling attracted the 'Seema's team for her selection. Since then, she has starred in a large number of Hindi and Marathi movies, stage shows and TV serials. She was mostly starred opposite Mehmood and the pair became hit in 'Sasural', 'Bharosa', 'Ziddi', 'Chhoti Behan', 'Sanjh Aur Savera', 'Love in Tokyo', 'Grahasthi', 'Humrahi', 'Beti Bete'. She also played negative roles in 'Paying Guest' and 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'. In 1962, at the 9th Filmfare Awards, she received two nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for Gharana and Sasural, though lost to Nirupa Roy.
Chhoti Bahen is a 1959 Hindi film that stars Nanda in the title role, and Balraj Sahni, Rehman. The movie was a remake of 1952 Tamil movie En Thangai. The film was remade in Telugu as Aada Paduchu with Shoban Babu and in Kannada as Onde Balliya Hoogalu.
Rajendra lives a poor lifestyle along with his younger collegian brother, Shekhar, as well a younger sister, Meena. He is in love with a school-teacher, and both hope to get married after Meena and Shekhar's marriages. Luck shines upon them and Meena's marriage is arranged with Dr. Ramesh, while Shekhar decides to wed Shobha, the only daughter of a wealthy man obsessed with horse-racing. Rajendra mortgages his house with his paternal uncle. Then things turn sour after Meena loses her vision; the wedding gets canceled, and Rajendra is humiliated by Ramesh's dad. Rajendra decides to remain single to look after Meena, and permits Shekhar and Shobha to get married. The marriage takes place, and Shobha moves in. Shortly thereafter misunderstandings crop, lead to arguments with Shekhar and Shobha moving out to live with Shobha's dad. Then Rajendra is fired from his job, his paternal uncle takes over the house, and asks him to leave. Homeless, they turn to Shekhar for help, but he refuses to assist them in any way. Then Rajendra falls ill and gets separated from his sister, while Shekhar takes to horse-racing and alcohol, and a path that will only lead to self-destruction.
Viju Khote (Vittal Bapurao Khote) (born 17 December) is an Indian actor who has worked as character actor in more than 300 films in Hindi cinema and Marathi cinema. He is famous as the dacoit Kalia in the film Sholay and the dialogue, "Sardar maine aapka namak khaya hai" and Robert in movie Andaz Apna Apna with the dialogue "galti se mistake hogaya". On television he is most remembered for his role in Zabaan Sambhalke (1993). He has also acted in Marathi theatre over the years.
He is actress Shubha Khote's younger brother by 5 years. Their father Nandu Khote was a noted stage actor and in silent movies, whose sister-in-law was actress Durga Khote.

She is the elder sister of singers Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. She is the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. India's highest award in cinema the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was bestowed her in 1989 by the Government of India.
