I first came across Danny Draven’s name as I was searching through Amazon’s filmmaking section. I was specifically looking for books on horror filmmaking and one book in particular really stood out. The Filmmaker’s Book of the Dead was not simply a memoir or how to book about filmmaking. It was a beautifully photographed and illustrated horror filmmaker’s Bible. Filled with tons of practical information and interviews from top horror filmmakers, I really do consider this book to be one of the more valueable items in my filmmaking catalog. And, between you and me, I’m not much of a reader, so the pictures make me happy.

Film
A film, also called a movie, motion picture or photoplay, is a series of still images which, when shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images due to the phi phenomenon. This optical illusion causes the audience to perceive continuous motion between separate objects viewed rapidly in succession. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera; by photographing drawings or miniature models using traditional animation techniques; by means of CGI and computer animation; or by a combination of some or all of these techniques and other visual effects. The word "cinema", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to the industry of films and filmmaking or to the art of filmmaking itself. The contemporary definition of cinema is the art of simulating experiences to communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty or atmosphere by the means of recorded or programmed moving images along with other sensory stimulations.

Stuart Gordon
Stuart Gordon (born August 11, 1947) is an American director, writer and producer of films and plays. Most of Gordon's film work is in the horror genre, though he has also ventured into science fiction and film noir. Like his friend and fellow filmmaker Brian Yuzna, Gordon is a fan of H. P. Lovecraft and has adapted several Lovecraft stories for the screen. They include Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak (from The Outsider), and Dagon, as well as the Masters of Horror episode Dreams in the Witch-House.
He has turned to the work of Edgar Allan Poe on two occasions, directing The Pit and the Pendulum in 1991 and The Black Cat for Masters of Horror Showtime series in 2007.
His science fiction films: Robot Jox (1990), and Fortress (1992) have both become cult classics.
With Brian Yuzna and writer Ed Naha he co-created Honey, I Shrunk the Kids for Disney Studios and executive produced the sequel Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. He also co-wrote Body Snatchers for Warner Brothers in 1993 and The Dentist for Trimark in 1998.

Charles Band
Charles Robert Band (born December 27, 1951) is an American director, writer, and producer, mostly known for his work on horror comedy movies.
His most famous films are those in the Puppet Master franchise and the Subspecies series, made by his company Full Moon Features. Before Full Moon Features, his earlier (and now defunct) company Empire Pictures made films like Ghoulies and the cult classic Re-Animator. One of the few non-horror films he worked on was the Prehysteria trilogy, which were made by his family oriented company Moonbeam Entertainment.
Personal life
Band was born in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of director-producer Albert Band, and brother of the composer Richard. With his former wife Meda, he had two children, Alex, the vocalist for the band The Calling, and Taryn. He had two sons with his former wife Debra Dion: Harlan and Zalman. Band's grandfather was the artist Max Band.
Career
Starting in the 1970s, Band formed Charles Band Productions. Dissatisfied with distributors' handling of his films, Band created Empire Pictures in the early 1980s. Through Empire, he could produce and distribute his films ensuring proper distribution and return on profits. Empire entered the video market with Wizard Video during this time, which released films by others in addition to Empire product. At the height of its run, Empire produced 12 theatrical and 12 direct-to-video films a year. Wizard produced two games for the Atari 2600 in 1982: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween based on the films of the same names and both quite controversial at the time for the levels of violence. Citing the fall of the Italian lira, the Rome-based Empire closed its doors in the late 1980s and Band returned to the States. There he formed Full Moon Productions which was quickly changed to Full Moon Entertainment and later became Full Moon Studios and Full Moon Features before settling on the current Full Moon Pictures.
