Shigella (/ʃɪˈɡɛlə/) is a genus of Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, non-spore-forming, non-motile, rod-shaped bacteria closely related to Salmonella. The genus is named after Kiyoshi Shiga, who first discovered it in 1897.
The causative agent of human shigellosis, Shigella causes disease in primates, but not in other mammals. It is only naturally found in humans and gorillas. During infection, it typically causes dysentery.Shigella is one of the leading bacterial causes of diarrhea worldwide. As of 2006, the WHO reported that Shigella causes about 165 million cases of severe dysentery, with a million resulting in death each year, mostly among children in the developing world.
Shigella species are classified by four serogroups:
Groups A–C are physiologically similar; S. sonnei (group D) can be differentiated on the basis of biochemical metabolism assays. Three Shigella groups are the major disease-causing species: S. flexneri is the most frequently isolated species worldwide, and accounts for 60% of cases in the developing world; S. sonnei causes 77% of cases in the developed world, compared to only 15% of cases in the developing world; and S. dysenteriae is usually the cause of epidemics of dysentery, particularly in confined populations such as refugee camps.
This movie describes how Shigella flexneri, which is the causative agent of bacillary dysentery, gains entry into the host through M cells and then disseminates throughout the intestinal epithelium to cause inflammation and diarrhea.

Shigella (Shigella sonnei, S. boydii, S. flexneri and S. dysenteriae) are Gram-negative, nonmotile, nonsporeforming rod-shaped bacteria. The illness caused by Shigella, known as shigellosis, accounts for less than 10% of the reported outbreaks of foodborne illness in the United States. Still an estimated 300,000 cases of shigellosis occur annually in the U.S. The number attributable to food is unknown, but given the low infectious dose, it is probably substantial.

Activa tu sed facial largando tu nectal, se dice que no es
Matar ventilar a tus ideas.

Que carga mis libros y una cabra que me pregunta, si es
Aqui que vive tal.
