Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Centre is a Tibetan Buddhist complex associated with the Karma Kagyu school located at Eskdalemuir, near Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
Before the present Temple complex was built, Samye Ling centred on just one building, a former hunting lodge called Johnstone House. In 1965 the Johnstone House Trust was formed with the objectives
Initially the community there was led there by a Canadian Theravada monk named Anandabodhi. When the community declined, Anandabodhi returned to Canada; he was subsequently ordained in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition and enthroned as Namgyal Rinpoche by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.
In 1967 the Johnstone House trustees invited the Tibetan lamas and refugees Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Akong Rinpoche to take over. They were then in their late twenties. They named the new community "Samye Ling", and were shortly joined by the thangka master-artist Sherab Palden Beru and the monk Samten.Samye refers to the first Buddhist monastic university in Tibet, while Ling means 'Place'.

The Samye Monastery or Samye Gompa (Tibetan: བསམ་ཡས་, Wylie: bsam yas, ZYPY: Samyä ; Chinese:桑耶寺) is the first Buddhist monastery built in Tibet. It was probably first constructed between 775-9 CE under the patronage of King Trisong Detsen of Tibet who sought to revitalize Buddhism, which had declined since its introduction by King Songtsän Gampo in the 7th century. The monastery is in Dranang, Lhoka Prefecture. It was supposedly modeled on the design of Odantapuri in what is now Bihar, India.
The 18th century Puning Temple of Chengde, Hebei, China was modeled after the Samye Gompa.
According to tradition, the Indian monk Śāntarakṣita made the first attempt to construct the monastery while promoting his sutra-centric version of Buddhism. Finding the Samye site auspicious, he set about to build a structure there. However, the building would always collapse after reaching a certain stage. Terrified, the construction workers believed that there was a demon or obstructive tulku in a nearby river making trouble.
Tibetan Buddhism is the body of religious doctrine and institutions characteristic of Buddhism in Tibet, Mongolia, Tuva, Bhutan, Kalmykia, Buryatia and certain regions of the Himalayas, including northern Nepal, and India (particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Dharamsala, Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim). It is the state religion of Bhutan. It is also practiced in Mongolia and parts of Russia (Kalmykia, Buryatia, and Tuva) and Northeast China. Religious texts and commentaries are contained in the Tibetan Buddhist canon such that Tibetan is a spiritual language of these areas. Tibetan Buddhism preserves the Vajrayana teachings of eighth century India. Tibetan Buddhism aspires to Buddhahood or rainbow body.
The Tibetan diaspora has spread Tibetan Buddhism to many Western countries, where the tradition has gained popularity. Among its prominent exponents is the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. The number of its adherents is estimated to be between ten and twenty million.

Kagyu Samye Ling is a Tibetan Buddhist Centre. The site was an old country house in The Scottish Borders. It is being made into a rare thing: a modern Buddhist garden. The name comes from Samye Gompa - the monastery from which Tibetan Buddhism spread after the eighth century. It is 150 kilometers south of Lhasa, where the more-famous Potala was built in the seventeenth century. At Samye Ling in Scotland, Eight Stupas flank the entrance walk. They commemorate the eight stupas in which the Buddha's ashes were placed when he attained nirvana. The stupa walk leads to Johnstone House and to a wish tree. It has the Scots name Clout...

The Samye Monastery is said to be the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet. It was constructed in the 8th century by King Trisong Detsen for inviting Indian sage Padmasambhava and the master Santarakṣita to promote Buddhism. The building of Samye marked the foundation of the original school of Tibetan Buddhism, the Nyingma.

you don't get to tell your heart how to feel
it does what it wants when it wants to
all that you can do is pray that it lands in the hands of somebody true!
and you don't get to tell your heart where to stay
no it will not obey cause it knows the truth
let's not confuse it! you try to prove it wrong
but the heart has a mind of its own
chorus:
you can't run from the place that you belong
cause if you run, you'll be feeling so alone
before you know, you'll be picking up the phone
cause the heart has a mind of its own!
can't fight that burning in your chest
you can't fight, feeling such a mess
your hear decides, but it's you that second guest
cause the heart has a mind of its own!
you don't get to fall at the perfect time
for someone love is ending, for someone else is just beginning
someone is gotta cry, someone needs to know why
but the heart tells no lies!
and you don't get to tell your heart when it heels
when it breaks like rock through shatter glass
all you can ask is that the pain moves fast
one day this too, shall last!
by know i hope you know, it has a mind of its own!
chorus:
you can't run from the place that you belong
cause if you run, you'll be feeling so alone
before you know, you'll be picking up the phone
cause the heart has a mind of its own!
can't fight that burning in your chest
you can't fight, feeling such a mess
your hear decides, but it's you that second guest
cause the heart has a mind of its own!
it's so real, can't you see it?
is the heart that really means it
and the heart won't let you lie,
it won't let love be defeated!
sometimes is inconvenient,
but the real truth is you need it
cause the mind will leave you lonely
chorus:
you can't run from the place that you belong
cause if you run, you'll be feeling so alone
before you know, you'll be picking up the phone
cause the heart has a mind of its own!
can't fight that burning in your chest
you can't fight, feeling such a mess
your hear decides, but it's you that second guest
