As a neurosurgery resident at Emory University and co-founder of NeuroLaunch, the world’s first neuroscience startup accelerator, Jordan Amadio believes in applying startup principles to neuroscience innovations. To date, NeuroLaunch has graduated 11 startups that have created over $15 million in value.
His current research interests lie at the interface of emerging technologies and the human nervous system. A graduate of Princeton University, he earned his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School and a master’s in business administration from Harvard Business School.
In 2014, he was honored with the American Medical Association Excellence in Medicine award and was named “40 under 40” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and MedTechBoston.

One of the fastest growing companies out of Silicon Valley is staking it's claim in Atlanta. Marketo Inc. has opened the doors to its new East Coast hub in Atlanta.
The San Mateo, Calif.-based marketing software company (NASDAQ: MKTO) said the Atlanta expansion has created up to 40 engineering and sales jobs but is expected to grow to more than 200 over the next two years. The company’s new offices are at 100 Tower Place in Buckhead.
Marketo announced in March it would launch Marketo KK in Japan. The Japanese subsidiary is a joint venture between Marketo, as the majority shareholder, Dentsu eMarketing One Inc. and SunBridge Corp.
Atlanta’s marketing automation industry is getting a new high-profile player, and possibly hundreds of jobs, as San Mateo, Calif.-based Marketo Inc. will put its East Coast hub in Buckhead— the recently IPO’d company’s first major expansion in the United States.
Atlanta Business Chronicle reported May 16 that Marketo will open a sales and customer support office in July, where it will initially create 30 to 40 jobs. The company has confirmed that but also plans to make Atlanta its sales hub and add more than 200 jobs over the next 24 months.
Marketo has signed a five-to-seven year lease at Tower Place 100, a 29-story Buckhead office building, according to an Atlanta Business Chronicle story.
“We see Atlanta as a vibrant market with a strong pool of talent,” Marketo spokesman Mike Moeller told the ABC. The city’s globally connected airport and Eastern time zone makes it a convenient location to service European customers, Moeller said.
Marketo’s on-demand software helps its business-to-business customers manage marketing campaigns and generate sales leads. Marketo also provides the analytics to forecast the impact of marketing on revenue and measure its return on investment.
Founded in 2006, Marketo has raised more than $100 million in venture capital. Investors include InterWest Partners, Storm Ventures, Mayfield Funds, Institutional Venture Partners and Battery Ventures. Marketo generated $95.9 million in annual revenue in 2013.revenue and reported $32.3 million in the first quarter, up 64 percent from the prior year.

Atlanta, Georgia, is home to 5.5 million people. When you venture into the lush foliage that engulfs much of Atlanta and frames its many skyscrapers, you’ll immediately understand why it’s referred to as “The City in a Forest.”
An Atlanta tour must include the Atlanta History Center. Learn about the city’s roots as a railways terminal, as well as its role in the Civil War, when it was nearly burned to the ground. Fact became fiction when Margaret Mitchell featured Atlanta as a major setting in her novel, “Gone With the Wind,” and you can learn about the author and the book at the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.
Stop by the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site to learn about the Civil Rights leader, and pay your respects at his final resting place. From there, your Atlanta sightseeing should continue at the Georgia Aquarium, where you can meet some beluga whales, swim with whale-sharks, and get up close and personal with sealife in the touch tanks.
Cap off a beautiful day with a trip to Stone Mountain Park. If you take the Summit Skyride, you’ll get an outstanding view of the city.

10. Barcelona - The city is a pioneer in smart city and low-carbon solutions.
9. Hong Kong - The city has also been a leader in the use and adoption of smart cards, which are already used by millions of residents for services like public transit, library access, building access, shopping, and car parks.
8. Copenhagen - The city has committed to carbon neutrality by 2025 and 40% of its citizens regularly commute via bicycle.
7. Berlin - Berlin is testing out vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies in the hopes of creating a virtual power plant from electric vehicles.
6. Tokyo - The city will create a smart town in the suburbs in partnership with major industry. The eco-burb will contain homes that integrate solar panels, storage ba tteries, and energy efficient appliances all connected to a smart grid.
5. London - also scored relatively high across the board. London has been well-recognized for some of its sustainability innovations (i.e. congestion tax) and its robust transit system.
4. New York - New York scored higher than most other cities in the ranking in all of the categories except of quality of life, where it ranked a poor 47th. It has teamed with innovator IBM to help the city prevent fires and protect first responders as well as identify questionable tax refund claims--a move that is expected to save the city about $100 million over a five-year period.
3. Paris - Paris already has a highly successful bike sharing program, Velib, and just last month, its mayor launched a similar model for small EVs called Autolib.
2. Toronto - smartest city in NA, scored well across the board, it is an active member of the Clinton 40 (C40) megacities, which seek to transition to the low-carbon economy. The private sector is getting in on the action too, setting up a Smart Commute Toronto initiative to increase the city's transit efficiency.
1. The smartest city in the world is Vienna - Vienna was the only city that ranked in the top 10 in every category. It is establishing bold smart-city targets and tracking their progress to reach these goals with programs like Smart Energy Vision 2050, Roadmap 2020, and Action Plan 2012-2015.
A smart city is defined as using information and communication technologies to be more intelligent and efficient in the use of resources, resulting in cost and energy savings, improved service delivery and quality of life, and reduced environmental footprint--all supporting innovation and the low-carbon economy.
The rankings were determined by the cities scores on 4 global categories: Innovation, Green ranking, Quality of life and digital city.

Welcome to Tokyo, the capital of Japan and the epitome of the word “megacity.”
In this vast metropolis, ancient traditions blend with futuristic buildings, and your Tokyo sightseeing will take you to representations of each. Pay your respects at temples set in forested hillsides, then flex your credit card in one of the shopping districts, before sitting down to a five-star meal…all in one day.
Your Tokyo tour begins with the subway and train system, which will take you all over this sprawling city. Tokyo is home to some 35 million people, many of which you’ll meet as its public transit carries you throughout its many neighborhoods. Make a stop in Asakusa, a temple district nestled in leafy trees with skyscrapers towering in the background. There you’ll visit Nakamisi Dori, a street loaded with food vendors and religious charms. Get to know the city a little better in the Harajuku district, home to cutting-edge fashion, a thriving, youth-centered culture, and the famous Yoyogi Park. The park stands out in stern contrast to the rest of the neighborhood; this sprawling, 134-acre green space is where locals slow down after a frenzied week of work and play.
As night falls, make your way to Shinjuku. Many of Tokyo’s premier restaurants and pubs span Shinjuku’s streets, and you can indulge in succulent 5-star meals or sample with fast food from local vendors. Watch a movie, do some karaoke, and linger with fellow travelers and friendly locals alike.

On your next trip to Austria, pay a visit to its capital city of Vienna. During the late 19th and early 20th century, this city became a cultural epicenter of Europe, contributing art, philosophy, and culture on its way to becoming one of the world’s great cities.
During your Vienna sightseeing, you can drink coffee in the same cafes as Einstein and Freud, or wander down the streets that inspired Beethoven. Tour galleries devoted to some of the most magnificent artwork in all of Europe, then walk along the Ringstrasse. Also called “Ring Road,” this downtown boulevard home to private residences, palaces, and other exquisite examples of architecture for you to marvel at.
Much of Vienna tourism is centered in its cafes. This is not just because its residents love strong coffee—though they do—but because Viennese social life largely grows out of its coffee houses. Locals will spend hours at their favorite cafes, reading the paper, speaking to friends, working on projects, or listening to music in the evenings. Sit at a table and watch the people of Vienna stroll by, or enjoy a sachertorte, or chocolate cake, while catching up on your latest novel. It’s impossible to visit this city and not be inspired.
Vienna has long been called The City of Music. Find out why at the Vienna State Opera; a backstage tour will show you all the ins and outs of this majestic place, as well as give you a glimpse of why it has been at the forefront of entertainment since its construction in the 1800s. Afterward, head a few blocks south to the Volksgarten, or people’s garden. Stroll through its pathways and sniff the sweet fragrance of its hundreds of roses. What better way to end a day in one of the world’s most beautiful cities?

Presumption of Irreparable Harm in Requests for Injunctions After eBay
The Supreme Court, in its 2006 decision in eBay Inc. v. MercExchange, L.L.C. (547 U.S. 388), rejected the general rule favoring the granting of permanent injunctions against patent infringement, instead holding that the traditional four-factor analysis for permanent injunctive relief applied in patent infringement cases.
Below you can view a panel discussion examining the after-effects of the eBay decision. It is moderated by patent infringement attorney and Lilenfeld PC founder David M. Lilenfeld (Link to David’s Bio page). The panel also features Ronald T. Coleman Jr., of Parker Hudson Rainer & Dobbs; Ann G. Fort, of Sutherland; and Frank G. Smith III, of Alston & Bird.
Lilenfeld PC’s founder, David Lilenfeld is an intellectual property attorney in Buckhead (Atlanta). The Firm represents clients in disputes involving trademarks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets. With the talented lawyers at Lilenfeld PC, Mr. Lilenfeld also works with clients to protect their intellectual property assets.
David is a graduate of Hunter College (C.U.N.Y.) with a Bachelor of Arts. Mr. Lilenfeld next earned a J.D. degree from The Ohio State University College of Law. He was also a member of The Ohio State Law Journal. David Lilenfeld has been selected to the Georgia Super Lawyers list in ‘14, ‘15 and ‘16 for intellectual property litigation – an honor reserved for only five-percent of Georgia lawyers.
Since founding Lilenfeld PC, Mr. Lilenfeld has had a number of positions of leadership in organizations in the Atlanta legal community, including the State Bar of Georgia, Atlanta Bar Association, and the International Trademark Association.
Mr. Lilenfeld has become a trusted resource for the media on intellectual property and business litigation. He has been published in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta Business Chronicle, IPFrontline.com and others.

The Future Belongs to the Discontented: The Life & Legacy of Robert W. Woodruff presented by The Coca-Cola Company celebrates Atlanta's most successful businessman and its most generous philanthropist. The exhibition includes correspondence, personal and business papers, scrapbooks, photographs, newspaper articles and film clips from the Woodruff papers — a collection that continues to be one of the most distinctive and heavily used in Emory University's Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library. The approximately 200 items on display chronicle Woodruff's remarkable influence on The Coca-Cola Company, Emory University and the city of Atlanta.
While his life shares elements with narratives of other American leaders and visionaries — an accomplished, wealthy patriarch, a headstrong son with an admirable work ethic, keen business acumen and charming personality; a successful and historic climb from the foundry to the president's office, and a largess left as an enduring legacy of generosity and philanthropy — the milieu is distinctly Southern and his path is uniquely his own. The exhibition illuminates this trajectory through five landscapes or themes: "Not Relying Upon His Father for Position" (Woodruff's childhood, family, education and early work experiences); "A Proud History" (his association with and contributions to The Coca-Cola Company); "Its Serenity Speaks to his Restlessness" (Ichauway Plantation); "Just Do It Right" (Woodruff's influence on Emory and Atlanta) and "Nell Hodgson Woodruff" (a portrait of his wife).
Far more than a simple chronological or biographical recounting of his life, the exhibition illustrates Woodruff's belief that one person can make a difference and reveals how his quiet, confident leadership, vision and generosity continue to benefit us today.
