Physical examination
A physical examination, medical examination, or clinical examination (more popularly known as a check-up) is the process by which a medical professional investigates the body of a patient for signs of disease. It generally follows the taking of the medical history â an account of the symptoms as experienced by the patient. Together with the medical history, the physical examination aids in determining the correct diagnosis and devising the treatment plan. This data then becomes part of the medical record.
A Cochrane Collaboration meta-study found that routine annual physicals did not measurably reduce the risk of illness or death, and conversely, could lead to over-diagnosis and over-treatment. The authors concluded that routine physicals were unlikely to do more good than harm.
Types
Routine physicals
Routine physicals are physical examinations performed on asymptomatic patients for medical screening purposes. These are normally performed by a pediatrician, family practice physician, nurse practitioner, or other primary care provider. This routine physical exam usually includes the HEENT evaluation.

Autonomous sensory meridian response
Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a euphoric experience characterized by a static-like tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine, precipitating relaxation.
Overview
Definition
Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) signifies the subjective experience of 'low-grade euphoria' characterized by 'a combination of positive feelings, relaxation, and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin'. It typically begins 'on the scalp' before moving 'down the spine' to the base of the neck, sometimes spreading 'to the back, arms and legs as intensity increases', most commonly triggered by specific acoustic and visual stimuli including the content of some digital videos, and less commonly by intentional attentional control.
Origins of the name
The term 'Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response' (ASMR) was coined on 25 February 2010 by Jennifer Allen, an electrical engineering and computer science graduate from the University of Southern Maine in the introduction to a Facebook Group she founded entitled the 'ASMR Group'.

What is ASMR?
ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and it is a term that categorises the pleasant (non-sexual) feeling of 'goosebumps' or 'chills' that some can feel when they are being triggered by an external stimuli such as whispering, personal attention or certain sounds.
