    Hidden over 3 m high in the hedge line is this beautiful clutch of 5 Greenfinch eggs! Over the next two weeks, the ♂️ will feed the ♀️ at the nest while she sits tight incubating 🤞🏽 So pleased finding this new nest species for monitoring .

    This Viper's-Bugloss, 𝘌𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘶𝘮 𝘷𝘶𝘭𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘦, had a very Jurassic feel... 🦕 Pictured at the spectacular Hooken Cliffs SSSI in East Devon, with a backdrop of pinnacles and cliffs of Seaton Chalk – dating back to around 90+ million years ago.

    This is why we get so exasperated about gorse fires. This was one of a few relatively small gorse fires recently set by a landowner for scrub clearance. Even so, it didn't take me long to find a charred Long-tailed Tit nest with a little clutch of cooked eggs within.

    Thread 1/6. The origin of this image of marram grass taken in 1984: when I joined Durham (UK) university they had a Leitz fluorescence microscope, with every accessory, including a Leica 3 camera. It must have cost a fortune but no one ever used it.

    A c5 grey wagtail nest found last week, which has now hatched 🐣 Not one we located, but was actually spotted by the landowner! All 5 young ringed today, and nest being monitored for BTO Nest Record Scheme 🪶
