Wendy Carlos (born Walter Carlos; November 14, 1939) is an American physicist, composer, and keyboardist best known for her electronic music and film scores. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Carlos studied physics and music at Brown University before moving to New York City in 1962 to study music composition at Columbia University. Studying and working with various electronic musicians and technicians at the city's Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center, she oversaw the development of the Moog synthesizer, then a relatively new and unknown keyboard instrument designed by Robert Moog.
Carlos came to prominence with Switched-On Bach (1968), an album of music by Johann Sebastian Bach performed on a Moog synthesizer which helped popularize its use in the 1970s and won Carlos three Grammy Awards. Its commercial success led to several more keyboard albums from Carlos of varying genres including further synthesized classical music adaptations and experimental and ambient music. Carlos composed the score to two Stanley Kubrick films, A Clockwork Orange (1971) and The Shining (1980), and Tron (1982) for Walt Disney Productions.
Stanley Kubrick (/ˈkuːbrɪk/; July 26, 1928 – March 7, 1999) was an American film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor, and photographer. Part of the New Hollywood film-making wave, Kubrick's films are considered by film historian Michel Ciment to be "among the most important contributions to world cinema in the twentieth century", and he is frequently cited as one of the greatest and most influential directors in cinematic history. His films, which are typically adaptations of novels or short stories, cover a wide range of genres, and are noted for their realism, dark humor, unique cinematography, extensive set designs, and evocative use of music.

This is a cover version of the 4th Movement from Walter (Wendy) Carlos's arrangement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony - all done on a Korg X5D. Doing this was purely for fun - I didn't realise the extent of the learning curve I was about to experience, or the ups and downs, self-doubt, fear, and all the other emotions that trying to recreate something by such a phenomenal genius can bring (I'm talking of Beethoven himself, of course, but Carlos wasn't far off either)! Thanks to Mike Cox and Jason Fillingham and Barry Hall for lending me their ears, and for their constructive comments, in the past couple of weeks! Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe will be next - or maybe Rhapsody in Blue....
Music from Kubrick's Movie "A Clockwork Orange". It is a little remix from the original.
Fellow Youtuber IThinkYouLookLarvely's version of Henry Purcell's MUSIC FOR THE FUNERAL OF QUEEN MARY (originally written in 1695). A similar version was used as the theme in Stanley Kubrick's A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971) by Wendy Carlos. The visuals i shot myself. Many thanks to IThinkYouLookLarvely for the use of his music and see the live version here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xeoJzSq7S00
Orchestra version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o40w2ph7rZM The music is "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary - March" by Henry Purcell 1659-1695 A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 darkly satirical science fiction film adaptation of Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel of the same name. This is the Sinfonia to Cantata 35 'Geist und Seelle wird verwirret' by J S Bach. It is played on a home constructed Moog Modular 3C I built from schematics about 15 years ago and am still completing. Some of the sounds have been sampled direct from the 3C when the tuning became an issue and the piece was not recorded onto tape, as was the original S.O.B's, but directly to digital multi track. Synopsis In this report from a longer programme, Derek Cooper introduces the Moog synthesiser, an instrument that can produce a variety of noises and arrangements, both mimicking real instruments and creating new sounds, all electronically. Did you know? Developed by Dr Robert Moog, the Moog synthesiser evolved from a kit known as a Voltage-Controlled Electronic Music Module, which Moog demonstrated in prototype form in 1964. The first production models emerged in 1967, accompanied by a sample record of music composed by Walter Carlos (later Wendy Carlos, after her sex-change operation in 1972). It was Carlos's 1968 album 'Switched-On Bach' that catapulted Moog-produced music into popular culture, though examples of music made on the synthesiser had already been released by The Doors, T...

Here are some experiments I did in trying to mimic the style of W. Carlos' synthesizer technique and style of timbres. Carlos was using a 1960's era patchable modular Moog synthesizer with a different architecture than that of the Alesis Andromeda synthesizer. Each one has some advantages and disadvantages over the other but both use analog circuitry. This video includes excerpts from 3 different Bach pieces. All are played by hand on a velocity sensitive keyboard, most of it one monophonic passage at a time, and overdubbed onto multi-track. Be sure to check out other related videos in my synthesizer series, and check back now and then as I will be posting more in the near future. After Youtube went through their recent video formant conversion process, they converted the high qua...

Under the influence of a new power-hungry artificial intelligence, the programs are being coerced into losing faith in the users. It would take a new type of program to alter this balance of power and re-take the grid for the good of the programs and their users. With the aid of a mysterious entity claiming to be a user who has been put into the system, perhaps there is hope. © 2011-2015 relaxing Music Excerpt from Wikipedia on ambient music: ...Beyond the major influence of Brian Eno, other musicians and bands added to the growing nucleus of music that evolved around the development of "Ambient Music". While not an exhaustive list, one cannot ignore the parallel influences of Wendy Carlos, who produced the original music piece called "Timesteps" which was then used as the filmscore to Clockwork Orange, as well as her later work Sonic Seasonings. Other significant artists such as Mike Oldfield, Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis have all added to or directly influenced the evolution of ambient music. Adding to these individual artists, works by groups such as Pink Floyd, through their albums Ummagumma, Meddle and Obscured by Clouds. Other groups including Yes wit...

[Lyrics Wendy Carlos - Love Theme] You tell me that you're leavin', I can't believe it's true! Girl, there's just no livin' without you. Don't take your love away from me. Don't you leave my heart in misery. 'Cause if you go, then I'll be blue, Breakin' up is hard to do. Remember when you held me tight, And you kissed me all through the night. Think of all that we been through, And breakin' up is hard to do. They say that breakin' up is hard to do, Now I know, I know that it's true. Don't say that this is the end. Instead of breakin' up I wish that We were makin' up again. I beg of you don't say goodbye, Can't we give our love just one more try? Come on baby, let's start anew, Breakin' up is hard to do.
