Sir Thomas More (/ˈmɔːr/; 7 February 1478 – 6 July 1535), venerated by Catholics as Saint Thomas More, was an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman and noted Renaissance humanist. He was also a councillor to Henry VIII, and Lord High Chancellor of England from October 1529 to 16 May 1532.
More opposed the Protestant Reformation, in particular the theology of Martin Luther and William Tyndale. He also wrote Utopia, published in 1516, about the political system of an imaginary ideal island nation. More opposed the King's separation from the Catholic Church, refusing to acknowledge Henry as Supreme Head of the Church of England and the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. After refusing to take the Oath of Supremacy, he was convicted of treason and beheaded.
Pope Pius XI canonised More in 1935 as a martyr. Pope John Paul II in 2000 declared him the "heavenly Patron of Statesmen and Politicians." Since 1980, the Church of England has remembered More liturgically as a Reformation martyr. The Soviet Union honoured him for the Communistic attitude toward property rights expressed in Utopia.
More or Mores may refer to:
Henry VIII's Chancellor, Sir Thomas More was imprisoned for refusing to accept the king as Head of the Church. He was initially treated relatively well and dedicated himself to contemplation and writing. He was beheaded and later made a Catholic saint.

The third part of the trial scene from the 1966 movie "A Man for All Seasons". Thomas More is on trial because he would not take the Oath of Supremacy recognizing Henry VIII as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and failure to do so was treated as treason. Roman Catholics such as More had to take the Oath or were tried and usually executed. "NEVERTHELESS!! It is not for the supremacy that you have sought my blood, but because I would not bend to the marriage!"
Stephanie Mann compares and contrasts the portrayals of St. Thomas More from Robert Bolt's classic script "Man for All Season" and the contemporary "Wolf Hall" by Hilary Mantel.
The patron saint of lawyers, St. Thomas More died when he he chose God's law over that of King Henry VIII.
Host Billy Atwell speaks with Luke Farley, Raleigh lawyer and president of the St. Thomas More Society of the Triangle. They discuss the remarkable life of St Thomas More, patron saint of lawyers, politicians and statesmen.
Saint Benedict Press author and Catholic Courses professor Joseph Pearce discusses the early modern English play, Sir Thomas More. Pearce was invited to write the introduction to the first Spanish edition of the play. Pearce argues that the play is pro-Catholic and was likely written entirely by William Shakespeare, rather than Anthony Munday. Joseph Pearce is writer-in-residence at the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts and is editor of the Saint Austin Review. Petercam Lage Rente interview Pascal Paepen (Lector Thomas More) Video editing, Titles & SVO’s, Color Grading, Audio Mixing by Jan Bellemans Production: Jan Rombouts for Petercam
"When I sat down recently with Thomas to discuss the topic of soul and spirituality, my first request was that he elaborate on the difference between spirit and soul. Moore’s understanding of the topic is rooted firmly in the past, going back to some of the earliest teachers of soul. While he explained his perception of the difference between spirit and soul in some detail, what struck me is that soul thrives on the “holy” and that there is a “non-human” dimension to it."

Theo-Humanism: Thomas More's "Utopia" (Created by Paul L. Heck, Georgetown University)
Written by William Shakespeare, in collaboration with Anthony Munday and Henry Chettle between 1592 and 1595, _Sir Thomas More_ was never performed in his lifetime because it did not make it past the censor, Tilney. It was performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, 2005. I directed this production in 2007. I added the dancing bits in the beginning based solely on what I could remember from Renaissance dancing years ago, so if they are not completely authentic, please do forgive.
Download as Mp3: http://archive.org/details/utopia_j_librivox LibriVox recording of Utopia, by Thomas More. Read by Jenilee. This book is all about the fictional country called Utopia. It is a country with an 'ideal' form of communism, in which everything really does belong to everybody, everyone does the work they want to, and everyone is alright with that. This country uses gold for chamber pots and prison chains, pearls and diamonds for children's playthings, and requires that a man and a woman see each other exactly as they are, naked, before getting married. This book gave the word 'utopia' the meaning of a perfect society, while the Greek word actually means 'no place'. Enjoy listening to this story about a country that really is too good to be true.
